Ok, Halo 2 is off Live and it is a true shame that all things must come to an end. However I'm viewing this in a very positive light right now. Not that I didn't like Live Halo; I loved it. However, this is a very important milestone for the game. It is officially a classic. People knew that it would have to come to this eventually. However there is life after death still. And now that Halo 2 has transcended the scene of mainstream gaming, I plan to make the best of it. True we no longer have Live play, but that's not entirely a bad thing, which brings me to main topic of my thread:
... Who here plans to throw a LAN Party? If any of you have been with Halo from the beginning then you can act as whitnesses to recount the epic tales of Pizza box towers; the piles of AMP cans; tangled chords and faint aroma of marij-- nevermind. Anyways, now that Live is gone I feel that it is the perfect time to revive the memory of the original multiplayer experience.

Lewis Belding: I got 18 people in my hotel! Where are they gonna go?
The Stranger: Out.

Indeed! We may never play this on LIVE again...but there's still life in the old gal yet!

Up until the last few days, my best experiences with Halo2 were with 16 player LAN parties...4 guys to a room, and profanities and pizza hurled between them all!

"Hollywood is a place where they shoot too many movies and not enough actors."

I'm definitely going to be running a few LANs and XBC sessions.

LANs are when two or more consoles have ethernet cables hooked directly to each other. They're referred to in the game menue as System Links. It can be a simple ethernet cable connecting two xboxes or you can buy elaborate split cables that can branch off to more. Ideally you'd have at least a four-way cable to connect at least four consoles so you can play with the maximum 16 people.

Actually I see the death of H2 Live as an excuse to play the game the way it would ideally be played.

In sweden we have massive LAN partys with about a thousand to twentythousand people playing an array of games every year. Last time I recognize at least threethousand HALO 2 players :-)

Why do you need to connect it to your computer?

Let me be of assistance.

How to LAN, a step by step guide by Sundebu

Step 1. Gather a whole lot of people.

Step 2. have at least two xboxes and connect them to eachother by using a regular internet cable.

Step 3. Boot up Halo 2 and go to System link>Host game.

Step 4. Do the same for the other xbox except make them join the game already hosted instead of hosting a new one.

voila!

PS: Be sure to bring pizza!
