im one second from taking this to the next level.

My fondest memories of Halo 2 are of all the friends I made. Being stuck in a relatively rural/suburban area like mine, the chance to meet people who are into games or even up-to-date on ANY technology are rare. I met my closest friends in Halo 2 and 3, and I owe Bungie a lot of happy and awesome moments because of that. I don't think I'd be as good a person were it not for the people I've learned from in my Halo travels.

Thanks for all the great years Bungie. I could never properly express my gratitude to you guys. Here's to many more years in gaming! To Bungie.

So you've tracked me down...

Be sure to check out my Youtube profile for all of my videos.

I was hoping to be playing it until the end, but I know that I wouldn't have stayed online for such long periods of time. I played a good portion over the last 2 days and i thoroughly enjoyed my time playing.

For me, Halo 2 is the best game that I have ever played, I've not had a better experience than playing system link on Lockout, King Of The Hill, Shotty Snipers.

What a masterpiece, no time to reminisce though, I heard that there's something big coming from Bungie!

:)

This is a great write-up. I love the story boards. My best memories from are from the numerous, epic, hour long zombie matches on Foundation and Waterworks. It really brought out the team player in everyone.

Lots of happy memories ... one painful/hilarious memory ... my roommate and I picked up the game launch night and played through the campain in co-op ... after the final cut-scene where master-chief tells hood he's there to finishthe fight, I jokingly said "End credits!" and we laughed and laughed at the prospect until the credits really did begin to roll ... that was rough ... its funny looking back at all of those multiplayer maps, they feel like old friends ... i hadnt thought about them since halo 3 ... just been enjoying the new stuff, but looking back, i had so many good times on those old maps and there were lots of spaces that I don't feel have a counterpart in any of the halo3 maps ... no complaints tho, i love the new maps too, its just a weird feeling having such intimate knowledge about those maps ... playing on them in the last few days felt like I had never left ... i remembered where every pistol and plasma grenade was

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

My two best memories of Halo 2:

1) Spent the first several weeks playing the campaign through nice and slowly. I was most struck by the power and awesomeness (in the literal sense of the word) of Gravemind. His lines stayed in my head for years, slowly and laboriously delivered with the monotone deep voice of a timeless immortal. I absolutely loved how Gravemind spoke with a determined, poetic rhythm, sometimes rhyming and sometimes not. I thought that the concept and manifestation of Gravemind were the most brilliant element of any Halo campaign character.

The sound of Gravemind's "I am a monument to all your sins" is forever etched into my brain as one of the greatest moments in any game's campaign. Ever. No question.

2) Best memory from multiplayer is actually my first. I will never forget my first instant of online multiplayer over the internet. Though the concept was not COMPLETELY foreign (I was an experienced LANer before Halo 2), it was still an incredible moment. I remember the map -- Zanzibar -- and the voice of one of my teammates coming through saying "Come on guys, let's go!" in an encouraging way. I didn't do too well that game, but gaming instantly reached a whole new, addicting level for me.

I am forever in awe of the talent and skill of Bungie employees as a group of game developers, and I am thrilled to have supported their games and community for nearly a decade. As one door opens, another even more exciting one opens, and I can't wait to see what Halo: Reach brings to the table!

And God said... "One day man shall aspire to greatness lead by the king of all Bungie as there Moses, to create such a revolutionary game and that thall shalt remained forever hindered by its captivating spell. Unable to grasp such words to explain all the memories of past events and actions preformed. With these final words I speak and the beating heart lying in the depths of multiplayer. Halo 2 has touched us in a shining light, glistening deep within our souls and which that light shall never fade. Goodbye Halo 2 and how revolutionary an experience you have made and will remain within us... forever."

My favorite memory from Halo 2 isn't from any of the 4+ years that I've been playing it, but from my experiences last night. When I read that Halo 2 was still up I absolutely rushed to my Xbox to pull a few more games together. If it weren't for me signing off to eat some dinner with my family I wouldn't have missed the cut-off point by a mere 5 minutes. Farewell Halo 2, you were good to us all.

Haha, nice, I got mentioned at the end. I still prefer your "explicit" answer over the one you posted, though.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Thanks for choosing to whine over being a productive member of the community and possible element towards advancing Reach.

....Total kills equals to 5.5 times the earth's population....damn....that's amazing.

To those 50 (64 on the stat page at the time of this being posted) still in Halo 2 matchmaking, I'm jealous, you guys are really dedicated.

Halo 2's online era is at an end. But it's legacy will live on, no one can deny that.

I still remember the night Halo 2 came like it was yesterday. Me and my buddy went over to Gamestop around 11 and they had ordered pizzas for everybody that came early and as soon as I got my hands on that metal case we both rushed home to play. Once we popped that disc in and fired it up and the guitar shredded through the Bungie scene me and my buddy became so overwhelmed we embraced lol. One of the only times I've hugged another dude. We beat the campaign that night and went on to play some multiplayer all the next day. Great times. Then came beating legendary solo.. I have to say I think that this one was the toughest to beat on legendary. CE and ODST were cakewalks compared to 2. Then came hours and hours of LAN in the dorms.. the sounds of guys yelling down the hall and the girls walking out of their rooms wondering.. hahaha priceless. Then came beating all the campaigns with the gf. She absolutely loved playing levels as the Arbiter. This game was amazing, and will XBL's community will miss it sorely. I daresay that without Halo 2, XBL would not have been anything compared to what it is today.

This guy is streaming playing h2 matchmaking online, my friend who has his box set up at my house is still playing and was playing in his game earlier :p
http://www.justin.tv/o0domination0o#r=IULV2L0~

Anyway, I had a blast playing Halo 2 over the years. On my current gamertag i had over 1400 matches, and I can imagine that number would be doubled the number of system link lockout TS games that I have played. Used to play with a group of 6-8 guys after school EVERY DAY.

Well, it's off to XBConnect to play some more! you should all join me :p

I'm really going to miss halo 2. My best memory of the game was waiting in line for 8 hours with all of my best friends that i played halo 1 with all the time on LAN. I really miss those days.

Lots of great memories with this.

This game got me interested in LAN parties.(I know, I know, I was to young when CE came out) It was a tradition at the end of semesters I'd throw a Halo 2 LAN party. Lots of Pizza and great times.

Best memory in game:
I would have to say were were playing BTB slayer on Coagulation. I was on a hill near the trees. I was surrounded. I was trying to get the rocket my buddy dropped while a tank and 3 players rushed me.

I though I was dead for sure and would try to take out the tank. Right when I held X to pick the rockets up, an enemy banshee came up from behind to try and splatter me. Instead of picking up the rocket, I highjacked the banshee instead flying away to safety. Most exciting moment in any game for me period.

I still remember the day I got this game. Good memories. The Flood sea monkeys, birthday grunts, the Arbiter, Brutes, Gravemind. A true titan among games. Thank you Bungie, and farewell Halo 2.

I wonder what people 500 years from now will think about the impact that Bungie has made and the way that people communicate with one another. Ive made so many friends from Halo and Im just totally blown away with where we are in life. Wonder what Reach will be like (hopefully just as good, or even better, than Halo 2)
Thanks, Bungie. Reach will be just as amazing. Ill stick with you guys till the end.

R.I.P Halo 2. I admit I didn't play it much on Xbox Live because Halo 3 was released when I first recieved Xbox Live. But the fact that I won't be able to play it on Xbox Live is saddening. Goodbye Halo 2, you will be missed.
