Subject: A question about those still playing

As we all probably know by now, those who never signed out of Halo 2 are still able to play even after the plug was pulled. So, my question is, if the Live plug was pulled, and Live supports online play, then shouldn't these people all be disconnected? Or atleast from matchmaking and still be able to play customs.

HALO 2 lives for as long as anybody still plays it consistently after official shutdown. Support those who do!

Metal, Gaming and Sport, Hells yeah

Either a loophole, or that they don't need the servers of LIVE once already signed in

From what I know, Bungie just uses Live as a sort of funneling service to get the people to Bungie's matchmaking servers. Once the players are logged to Bungie's servers, it's up to Bungie to disconnect them from the game, or Microsoft to disconnect them from the internet momentarily.

Microsoft discontinued Xbox LIVE for the original Xbox console and original Xbox games. This means that Xbox LIVE was pulled from everyone on the original Xbox. I assume the Halo 2 servers, however, are still up and running at Bungie. They made it so Xbox 360 gamers could no longer connect to original Xbox LIVE service, but those already connected (at least for Halo 2) are an exception. Technically, Microsoft would have to force those people offline before they could make any changes, such as more people allowed on your friend's list.
