That one guy brouht up a good post but I still cn't completly agree. Why should I adapt to a game that does not play as good as the first. I am not saying Halo 2 is a horrible game because I think that Halo 2 is the second best console shooter. In a way Bungie did lie becasue it promised an epic game with a huge invasion, did you even see the ad and the E3 2003 trailer. You can't deny that Halo 1 was simply a game that felt more polished and had a bigger impact when it was relased.

You sound reasonable, but Bungie never promised anything.

No-one is asking you to adapt. To be honest, I like Halo 2 better than Halo 1. I don't feel I explain why, I just do. That should be good enough for anyone. If you prefer Halo: Combat Evolved, then more power to you. Everyone has their preference. I've never felt let down by Halo 2. Although maybe that's because I don't read into everything as closely as some people do.

Basically, my point was.. You can adapt and enjoy Halo 2 as well as your Halo: Combat Evolved. Maybe I'm not as bitter as the hardcore professional players because I never felt let down by Halo 2? The gameplay was straight to the point, even if it was short. Personally, I thought the single player on Halo: Combat Evolved sucked. So a short one is better than a boring backtrack-fest anyday. I like Halo 2's multiplayer.

I play a lot of shooter games. Unreal Championship 1/2, Ghost Recon 1/2, Halo 1/2, Conker Live & Reloaded, Star Wars: Republic Commando, Timesplitters 2/3.. I don't bother getting hung up on which is "THE ULTIMATE BEST GAME EVER!!!" and I tend not to focus all my gaming time on one game. I could care less about which game is the best. If I'm in the mood for a serious fragfest, I got UC, if I'm feeling a bit silly, I'll go Conker or Timesplitters, if I'm feeling Military I'll go Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon. If I'm feeling in a Halo mood, I'll pick if whether I went to go 3-shot precision pistol kills or wider variety of weapons, and I'll choose between CE or 2 accordingly.

You know what would make a true Bungie fan? If you went and enjoyed whichever game you preferred. If you've got some criticism on the game, think it out and mail it to Bungie in a polite manner. If enough people see something wrong, they'll fix it in Halo 3.

Despite all of it's shortcomings, I like Halo 2. I enjoy playing it. It's a game!

Don't take everything so seriously!

Thanks for reading. All truely offensive flames you may wish to send to me, please Private Message me. Or spam my XBL inbox with your voice saying "STFU -blam!-ET!". I don't mind, I know you don't really mean it. ;)

.. Oh yeah, P.S. The Magnum does NOT suck. Thanks for playing!

Just because Halo 2 is a good game doesn't mean it is a good Halo game. I enjoyed it for awhile, but it depresses me how unlike Halo 1 it is. They made it nothing what Halo: CE was, and everything that it was not. And that's not good because most of what Halo 1 was not was a good thing! They put in all kinds of stupid crap because they are now ruled by Microsofts iron fist and cannot do what they want to... or at least I hope that's the problem. Halo 1 was a great game and I wanted more of it, not something so completely different. I wish people would stop lying to themselves, saying that "Halo 2 is better in every way!" In a sense, it is. But this seems to only be the case so that fans of the first can convince themselves that it is just as good as the first, and for the most part it works. People like me, though, have actually looked into it to find out what it was that they severely disliked. It is that it feels so different. SO NOT HALO!!!

Understandable and very reasonable. I personally don't think it's being ruled by Microsoft, they just wanted to take the game in a different direction. I was really ticked off at first by all the changes before I started really liking the game.

It's not the quirky things that got me at first. It was the fact the whole setting was changed. The human weapons looked more black and modern than the shiny bulky chrome weapons of Halo: Combat Evolved. The whole setting felt more.. post apocolyptic than before. More modern times, rather than 100 years in the future. More desperate. More darker with the Covenant politics. In comparison, I think the whole thing seems more alive, more realistic, more believable than Halo: Combat Evolved was. That doesn't mean I wasn't angry it felt so different. Hell no. But after I gave the new setting a chance, I grew to like it more.

Well, that's the hurdle I had to get over at first. Well, that and going from a meaty assault rifle and explosive round pistol with a scope to an SMG and a Magnum.. But I took that with the realistic setting and grew to enjoy that as well. Anyway, I'm not assuming that's what you mean. Far from it. I'm just sharing what I never liked at first.

Don't as me why. It seemed relevant when I started typing it out. o_O

Post-Edit-Edit: Hm. Trust me, I'm not a stupid fanboy who likes the game because it's the sequel. I didn't just accept that it's the only online Halo and play it because of that, either. I've spent quite a few hours on Halo 2, because.. well.. I like it. I like the changes. I like the game itself. I like how they completely reworked the game instead of just upgrading the graphics and adding a few weapons (hm, that sounds like Halo PC to me.. and guess what? Halo PC aint no sequel, it's a port!). I've looked into all of the thinks I don't like, and they're all little quirky things. Halo: CE has it's share of quirks too. The Needler, The Plasma Gun.. Wow. They're really useless. The Pistol, The Shotgun, The Sniper. Those are really the three good weapons. The Assault Rifle was meh. Hell, most of the Covenant weapons were meh. The purpose of a rocket launcher, taking out vehicles, was really hard to use vs moving vehicles due to its slow moving rockets.. So it ended up a troop killer. That can kill weapon balance just a bit. None of the games are perfect. I like them both, and I like the way I can still play Halo: CE as if it's a different game to Halo 2. It gives me two fun games to play, rather than a replacement for my existing game. Aren't I lucky?

I like the new feel of Halo. It doesn't mean I didn't like the old one, but I like the new setting better. It's more modernly realistic, and less 1990's Sci-Fi movie where everything is chrome. I wasn't happy about having it scrapped at first.. But I am happy about the games being different enough to enjoy in different ways. Bah! I'll stop repeating myself now.

Good explanation! I guess then I just like the way Halo 1 was better, and that's not a problem either way. But I did also like the mood better. The way the environments, music, and style in the story and the way they tell it make me feel. It's not all gameplay, not at all. There are some tweaks in the gameplay I liked, but they should've done something like add them to what they had, instead of completely changing it. In my opinion. I also don't like the changes they made to that one song, with the heavy strings and such. Know which one I'm talking about? And they completely ommitted the one they play in Halo 1 on Two Betrayals when the bottom of the screen says "Final Run." (That's the part I remember it from) I liked that little peice of music. Oh, and the chanty sounding thing at the beginning is different, and while it's not bad, I prefer the old one. I could probably think of a lot more, but I'll spare everyone -- and my fingers -- the misery.

Heh. Yeah, exactly. It's just all those niggly bits.

The stringy song? Are we talking electrical or orchestral music here? One of my favorite things about Halo 2 was the music, actually. I think it's the only game I don't turn music off and play my own. The electric music is awesome (especially the plugged version of the Halo theme song, that's awesome!) as is the orchestral. And they're so perfectly placed to set the mood.

Gee, I'm ranting now. So I'll stop. So.. uh.. Good night!

P.S. It's 2:10AM here. ;)

You could have left out the "which it doesn't, to begin with" part. Would have made your topic look alot more mature, but I guess the topic lost its maturity as soon as you posted because you just contributed to the flame war.

Have you actually read the thread, or just the first two posts and then decided "What the hell.. I think I'll just post!". The thread has moved on from a flame war. Don't bring it back. You're practically saying 'OMG! UR IMMATURE!' in a more literate manner.

I hate speaking about these Halo sequel topics. I just like playing Halo and like speaking to people about Halo. Simple. Fun. Wish everyone else would just do the same.
