Halo 2 Vista will never quite give you the same feeling, since;
A)Hardly anyone has a MIC
B)Unless you have a super computer, the graphics and Lag are evil.

The PC version of Halo 2 multiplayer, despite its many flaws, was never scheduled to go offline. Only the console multiplayer for Original Xbox games was to be switched off for good.

Halo 2 Vista multiplayer is quite safe, until Microsoft decide to swicth off support for Games For Windows Live.

I find it confusing as to why people think the PC version of Halo 2 would be affected by the Xbox Original shut down, despite the fact that the 2 services are not even related at all.

You don't need a super computer.

But, I will agree that the magic isn't there. It's still fun, and worth picking up, but few have mics and there's no matchmaking to set the bar as to what a standard game should be. So you end up with people who do all snipers, or BR + Sword starts.

At least a sword start isn't as bad as a SMG start. :p

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

I actually own Halo 2 vista, that's probably what I'll be doing when I am forcibly removed from Halo 2.

  • 04.17.2010 1:41 PM PDT

I've tried to play it and all is has ever done is end horribly. It lags every 5 minutes. Even when I play campaign!

Like someone else said you don't need a super computer. Also, for Halo 3 as an example, according to Bungie 1,609,689 players have enabled the option to Mute All. Honestly, not having to listen to -blam!-holes is a plus. But as always with every online multiplayer shooter, if you don't want to hear jerks or you do want a good team of players with mics, play with a group of friends. Ta-da! :)

Seriously, I'd strongly recommend Halo 2 for the PC. Objective games on District are awesome in my opinion.

Pioneer and Enthusiast for Halo 3.

They've taken it away from us on the Original Xbox. Its almost dead, and the deadline for players playing Halo 2 on Xbox is almost reached Zero of population. When this happens, I will be using XBConnect, and getting the PC version. Until then, once the population has dropped to zero, that's when Ill quit.

You don't need a supercomputer :)
The minimum requirement is that of a Nvidia 6100, and a 2 GHZ processor, you can pick up an 8800gt brand new for about £60 and an Amd phenom II 550 Black Edition for about £60 as well. You can even unlock the other two cores available on the chipset though it depends on what AM2+/AM3 motherboard you have.

Indeed, I am tired of telling people that Xbox live and Windows games are managed from the same company but worked differently.

halo 2 for vista will not work for me, the game will not update (had to reinstall after a extreme case of computer virus) and cannot play due to it having to login to live :( very sad now

A Halo 2 Glitch Master, "retired" since i couldn't find anything good in Halo 3, hoping for a come back. I'm a huge Marathon fan too. If you want to verse me, please message me through my Bungie.net profile.
My weapon of choice is the warthog (Driving); I'm one of the best drivers out there, so if i get my hand on a vehicle, you're going to wish i hadn't XD

April 20th I became one of the final 30 people to play Halo 2 online. Unfortunately I was kicked by Microsoft that day.

the one problem I see here is that most people couldn't recognise a gaming rig form one of the new dell computers (90's dells were fine, mine rivals alot of computers)

anywho, the one thing i see is that (with Halo 2 Vista) there isn't really a proper matchmaking. form what I see it just puts you into a random custom game. It's not bad really, but i'd really like a good halo 2 (console version) emulation.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Don't buy it; it's broken.

That is only your opinion as a customer, who I am guessing, had no idea how to install Halo 2 Vista or who is ticked off because their computer wasn't good enough.

Sucks for you.

Anyway, there is nothing MAJORLY wrong with Halo 2 Vista, but it could've been improved upon during porting. For example, co-op mode could have stayed in without any problems, aswell as matchmaking (IW left matchmaking included in the PC version of MW2, so whoever ported Halo 2 would have been able to do the same).

Also, it could have taken advantage of graphics technology a little better at the time, but there weren't really any improvements in that area either.

But H2V is indeed a playable game. And a good subsitute now that we are no longer able to play the Xbox version over LIVE.

How do you play H2V using Xbox 360 controllers?
