Brought this up in another topic, but I'm gonna go ahead and ask again:

Didn't get Halo 2 until after the servers shut down (just a few hours ago actually...) So until I get the Map Pack Disc, I can't get the maps.

Unfortunately, the Disc does not include 2 maps (tombstone and desolation) or the final 2 XBL updates (which I'm fairly certain won't really affect gameplay at a LAN party if I don't have them).

Is it possible to borrow the Disc from someone to install the maps or is there some sort of share protection to prevent that?

Is it possible to get the two maps not included on that disc or am I SoL for a while?

You can use someone elses disk

Do you want your map considered for Halo: Reach matchmaking? Does it support MM gametypes? Send off an email to cartographers@bungie.org or PM me a link and description to your map for submission to the Community Cartographers. I may respond to you for updates to your map, so be sure to be open for communication and critique.

Hi /r/halo on Reddit!

You can share the disc.

Updates won't matter because the later patches were just anti-cheat and the last one was to support Tombstone and Desolation. Also, the game follows the patch version of the host, so if you are completely unpatched everyone will have the launch-balance Halo 2, and if you have installed the map pack you'll have the big-weapon-balance-change patch if you host.

At the moment, there is no legal way to obtain Tombstone and Desolation, unfortunately

I brought it to LAN parties back in the day and used it on a bunch of consoles without any problem, for all the people who hadn't purchased all the maps yet.

It's too bad they didn't release the Map Pack disc when Bungie stopped supporting Halo 2 (when they stopped releasing XBL updates, new maps and new playlists). It would've made things much easier for people right now.

That said, I don't think they initially planned to produce the final two maps when they came out with the Map Pack disc. I remember them saying the BR destroyed gameplay on Hang 'em High and they wouldn't remake it for that reason. They obviously eventually reneged on that.

Thanks guys.

Just gotta hope for some type of support for tombstone and desolation in the future...
