Hello, fellow Halo fans! Not too long ago, a feature was added to the XBox LIVE Marketplace allowing the purchase and download of select original XBox games. So, an idea hit me. Why not add Halo 2 to this list? Or Bungie could release a Platinum Edition for the XBox 360. Think of all the new possibilities that could be achieved in doing so, with some new fixes/additions.

~Compatible friends list to communicate with players on different 360 games
~Remaster the campaign to allow online play and
~A remastered Multiplayer system (all maps would be included; bugs would be patched; faster to find a game; easier to mute people; new custom game options/new game types [zombies anyone?]; Community Playlist [games like Tower of Power or others from Team Carnage]; possibly new maps [Halo 1 remakes if nothing else]; etc, etc)
~Achievements
~While we would LOVE to keep them in custom games, superbounces and other glitches just don't belong in matchmaking... If it's not possible to have them only in custom games, just keep them.
~Many more possibilities (feel free to pitch your ideas)

Question and Answer:
Q). Why don't you just play Halo 3/ODST/Reach?
A). Reach isn't out yet, we don't know if it will be a flop like ODST, okay like Halo 3, or a Classic like Halo 2.
While Halo 2 lacks great features such as Forge or Theater Mode, it contains a better selection of maps and better overall gameplay. Anyone can pick up a controller and play Halo 3, whereas Halo 2 took time to master.

Q). Why do we need this if we already own Halo 2?
A). Our matchmaking system is now gone. We cannot play what made the game so great in the first place. This is something most people want back.

Q). Why don't you just buy Halo 2: VISTA for the PC?
A). I own a gaming console, not a gaming computer. As good as Halo 2 is, it's not worth spending an extra thousand or so dollars for a new computer just to play one game for the PC. One should also take into consideration that I personally only purchased an XBox to play Halo 2 and a 360 only to play Halo 3. Let's look at some numbers, shall we? XBox: $300 - XBox 360: $400 - Halo 1: $30 - Halo 2: $30 - Halo 3: $60 - Halo Wars: $70 - Halo 3: ODST $60 = $950 + 6% sales tax = $1,007. Why on Earth would I want to spend an additional $1,000 when I have already done so for one game series? I'd be happy to throw in an additional $63.60, but not $1,000.

Q). Why should Bungie waste time and resources making this with Halo: Reach on the way?
A). Halo 2 has a strong and loyal fanbase. This would provide Bungie something to work on after the bugs have been tweaked out of Reach. If I recall correctly from the Legendary Map Pack interview, that only took 3 people to make, so that should not be a problem down the line with Reach map packs.

Q). amg halo 3 r teh best geam evar and halo 2 r teh suc-blam!- y dont u play a reel gaem
A). Halo 2 is a better overall game when you weigh in both the time period each game was made in AND how fun the game actually is. Sure, Halo 3 has some nice fancy features like Forge and Theater, but it's not even a comparison to how much fun Halo 2 is.

More coming soon...

Nope. It would have to be entirely recoded. Notice how none of the xbox originals games have xbox live support. It's a whole different system, and might be more work than it would be worth to Bungie. You have to keep in mind that Bungie IS a game studio, and not there to support the community at their monetary loss.

Don't get me wrong, Bungie is the best developer I have come across in regards to community support, but it would not be n the best interests of the company.

I would love it just as much as anyone else - Don't get me wrong!

Overall, what I'm saying is that Original xbox games that are downloadable do not have the ability to play on live either. They would need to take time to recode the entire game basically, for what would be a loss to them.

It wouldn't necessarily have to be under the XBox Originals. Other games on the Marketplace have LIVE support on them.

As for the "monetary loss," we should leave that to the Accounting staff at Bungie to figure out... I'm sure many old players would return given the circumstances.

You can't just label it as an arcade game and call it good. You need to reformat the code in game to be compatible with Xbox 360 live. It's an entirely separate system, which is why they couldn't just transfer halo 2 over before the shutdown.

  • 04.17.2010 9:51 PM PDT

I understand that. They said multiple times that one can't just ctrl + c, ctrl + v. One of the options is, after all, a Platinum 360 edition disc. They could make this a new game - like any other - without the need to spend the time developing NEW graphics/storyline/matchmaking ideas.

  • 04.17.2010 9:54 PM PDT

I guess that COULD be a possibility, a bit of a stretch though... Since they wouldn't have to touch the campaign, and could have it be like the mythic disk for halo 3. It would still be a lot of work to reformat matchmaking into the 360's version of live. either way, I'd buy it. I just bought Halo 2 vista on amazon... only set me back 13 bucks though...

I love Halo and video games. I started a business called "70MGame", I setup LAN events, tournaments, and Midnight Launch Events. Check us out in the link below.

I grew up playing Halo CE and have never stopped loving it since. I have one of the biggest Halo collections you will ever see with the crown jewels being life size statues of Master Chief, Kat, and Emile. Im hoping to have the entire Noble Team soon as well as other Halo statues

Id buy one ya, even though I have 6 copies of Halo 2 already. The extra copies come in handy for LAN parties.

I don't think it'd work. Too many people would complain about it not feeling the same. Because let's face it, they'd have to use Halo 3's or Halo Reach's engine to build the game, and I don't think they'd remake an old engine or try to get the old engine as it was on an Xbox to a 360.

  • 04.17.2010 10:02 PM PDT

I have 3 copies... Only one works. One broke a couple years back, and one broke last week, so I had to hurry up and buy a replacement FAST... lol

It should be doable. They did it with Halo 2 Vista.

That's good news. I thought that wasn't the case, but that would make this idea much more realistic if that was the case.

Lol, I actually just ordered a sealed copy of Halo 2 off of eBay to have for the memories. I would really enjoy seeing the game come back in some form with online play.

That is still a very small population of voices, the small voter turnout for your poll is not gonna do much to show how most of us feel. Maybe if you can get at least a million people to say yes, they"ll bring it back in some form or another. 25 people wanting it back ain't gonna do anything to convince microsoft to change their minds.

And apparently 807 to 168 wasn't enough either.

You can troll/flame/hate/etc all you want. This thread will not die until I receive a direct "no" from Bungie.

Although I would be in full support of a 360 version of Halo 2 with co-op and live support, I think you are being a bit underappreciative of how large a task that really is. Transferring a game across network services and consoles is nothing short of difficult. It's not quite copy-paste, which you are coming off as thinking that it is.

I'm all for it (and hell, why not include co-op for CE), but if it impedes any sort of progress that they make in Reach or their secret project I pull my support.

It also has a very small fan base. While the people who are a part of it will be guaranteed customers, Bungie and Microsoft would both have to be confident that they can make a profit. I would love to extend my Halo 2 time on LIVE for a bit longer, but I'm confident that i'll have to sit back and have my fun over LAN.

I would love to see an updated version of Halo 2 with online multiplayer restored. I think that Bungie or Microsoft should do it as a tribute to the fans. Millions of people have bought Halo games around the world and made lots of money for them. Something like this would be an enormous show of goodwill.

If you happen to recall the time period before summer of 2007, everyone who owned an original XBox console pretty much only played Halo 2. During that summer in preparation for Halo 3, most of those Halo players purchased an XBox 360 console. While people still went back to Halo 2 for Bungie Day, HALOween, and Halo 2 New Years, it was inconvenient to play if you wanted to talk to your friends on COD or other games. I can undoubtedly assure you that if you could communicate from XBox to XBox 360 games, the player base would have been significantly higher.

Name ONE non-FPS for the XBox 360 that logged more matches (average per day) SIX MONTHS after release than Halo 2 THREE YEARS after release. There won't be one. Halo 2 defined an entire console. No XBox 360 game will ever do so.

  • 04.18.2010 1:41 PM PDT

i was always better at halo 2 then 3 and even with reach i just think i will always be better at two.
