Subject: H2 is sooo balanced.

I just noticed something. The maps are so balanced that 2v2's or 8v8's could be played on quite a few of them... I wonder if that would work in Halo 3? Probably not. even 6v6 on some maps had to be cut from squad...

I play for fun, I play for the team, and I play to win.

What do you mean by 'balanced', exactly? We talking symmetry?

I mean nothing in the game is "too" anything (big, overpowered, small) Everything fits well with each other component more than any other game.

A lot of Halo 2 maps are set up in a way where if you don't have a sniper rifle, you're not having fun. Coag and Ascension are the worst, but any of the big maps can be annoying.

Halo 3 did much better keeping snipers from being too ridiculous.

Halo 2 is more balanced for me. Weapon and map layouts compliment each other. After I got kicked off halo 2, I noticed how halo 3 was just not on the same level (multiplayer wise). Its just not as fun. The maps aren't as fun. The hit reaction is slow and inconsistent. Hopefully Reach will be better.

Probably just due to the no hitscan. Since Reach will have hitscan, it may be better :)

Halo 2 took map making to a new level. The placement of weapons, crouch jumps, obstacles, fusion cores, switches and destroyible objects was perfect. The longer you played the more you memorized all the little 'secrets.' Halo 3 was a steo-backwards in map design IMO. They drew the general concept for the maps but never really perfected them. Big rooms, big walkways, big shooting galleries, crouch jumps removed for mana cannons, ramps and stairs, thats pretty much how halo 3s maps were.

Halo 2 was my favorite game ever made. Halo 2, I miss you...

Yeah I agree, one of the best features of Halo 2 was map layout and weapon placements on them. Halo 3's maps are just horrible, thier choke points are too clumped together or too spread out... huge areas where you cannot hide and defend yourself if you are confronted by more than one opponet. Halo 2 was great because it had some areas on most maps that you would not get spawn killed instantly and get your bearings before heading into the fight again. I dont see any areas that have a power weapon such as a rocket launcher that doesnt have weapons that can defend close by. They are so much more balanced than any other game...

Lockout is better than the "re-imagining" that is Guardian, and even more so when compared to the remake Blackout.

Even a near perfect remake like Heretic isn't quite as fun as Midship in Halo 2. I think it has alot to do with how the games played as opposed to the maps themselves. Though I agree Halo 2 maps, in general, were just plain better than in Halo 3.

OMG I know EVIL SNOWSTORM. It's funny how people talk about H3 being more balanced but H2 gave a way better chance for the person getting shot at to fight back.

IMO the 1.1 patch is where it all started going wrong. Melee upgrade fixed running around in circles but along with stronger nads, duals were a lot weaker (and it didnt help that the magnum was downgraded as well). Now the BR went from middle of the road upgrade weapon to power weapon, which by itself wasn't too bad...

"SMG Starts! Okay, we admit it. It was a bad idea." WORST QUOTE EVER. The maps were almost all designed around close quarter combat. The easiest map to see this effect is Ivory Tower. You had a bunch of close quarter combat hotspots, in the hallway next to the sniper, at the flag, where the flag gets captured, at OS, at shotty, etc. And if you were fighting up top at sniper then with a close range weapon you can fight interfere (besides nads) with fights in the middle near rocket ammo.

... The community kept on whining for BR starts (and i was one of them) but we didnt understand that SMG starts kept the 'balance.' BR starts completely changed gameplay. Dual weapons were were even worse now, half the hotspots were obliterated, ex. lockout became a huge shooting range from sniper tower and big tower or lift.

Then with Halo 3 bungie basically designed a game (and maps) around the BR and shooting range combat. It's exactly what 'we' wished for right? BR combat (and the AR is basically a crappy BR) and duals that are useless.

The most ironic thing is the people who complained that the SMG was too weak made H2 focused around the BR. Then they went 180 and complained that the BR was too powerful so now Bungie is scraping it all together. Like they say be-careful what you wish for.

P.S. BR starts were better on some maps, like Coag and Containment but they ruined gameplay on most. ex. Headlong, Defenders have a huge advantage inside the base but offense has an advantage if they can get the flag into open middle ground but that advantage is gone if the hogs and turret are destroyed

Minus the super jumps, anyone remember the 1v1's?

I personally enjoy the maps in halo 2 by a far greater amount, they were unique, original (minus the remakes) and fresh. Most of them were smaller too, but set up in a way that even 8v8 could work well on them, and most game types on any of them.

If you notice in all of the remakes or successors in 3, all of them were much bigger than the original.

I'd love more maps in the style of halo 2 in reach. A perfect recreation of lockout, turf, ascension, ivory tower, relic, elongation and terminal is what I really want. (asking for a lot I know ^_^)

I mean how many times in halo 3 do you hear "UGH I HATE this map vetovetovetoveto!" then then they quit out because they didn't want to play it. In Halo 2 I enjoyed playing all of the maps, never really heard complaints on the map while in 3 I find myself displeased with the map selected (but never do I quit out)so lets hope for smaller, more original maps!
