Halo 1 & 2 for PC

1. I get lots of lag and stuttering. Im on a laptop with an nvidia Geforce 8600m GT and an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz, 4 GB RAM. I can play games like Oblivion and Fallout 3 on medium settings, so Halo 2 should be no problem. When I move the mouse my FPS seem to decrease. Looking around feels like my view is moving through jello. What's the deal?

2. I can't run and crouch at the same time. If I want to crouch I have to hold still, press shift, then move. Is that normal? It's a pain.

I've got the latest drivers, and I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

That's normal. On the Xbox with the controller, you couldn't push the thumb stick all the way forward and click it in either. So it incorporates that on the PC

Everything high, but anti-aliasing turned off.

I ended up bumping it down to 1024x768 resolution and running the game in windowed mode. Somehow this dramatically improved everything. But still, after about 10 minutes of play, it starts stuttering like hell again.

Right now I'm defragging my hard drive. Maybe it might help a bit.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Every time someone buys this game we find out about new, annoying problems it has. MS support told me it was specifically my hardware that was the problem, but it's pretty obvious they're ignorant or lying. One thing I can point out is, the engine is meant to run at 30 frames per second. If your system is far exceeding that rate the game can start to malfunction. Try to force vysnc on, and then off, and see how it affects performance. You can also Google for "fps limiter" and use that to cap the frame rate to 30 or 60 and see if that helps.

First what you need to do is download Fps limiter 0.2 from here http://www.caveofdistraction.com/fpslimiter/FPS_Limiter_0.2.r ar

Then extract the file with zip7 which can be download from here http://www.7-zip.org/

After you have extracted the file, rename the folder to fpslimiter
and then place it in your local disk.

Now go back to you desktop and created a new shortcut

and copy and pasted one of the two directories below in the the window that pop in your desktop

for 64 bit users -----

C:\fpslimiter\FPS_Limiter.exe /f:50 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo 2\halo2.exe"

for 32 bit users -----

C:\fpslimiter\FPS_Limiter.exe /f:50 "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2\halo2.exe"

The click next and name the shortcut and then click on finish

Now used the shortcut you just created to run the game.

If you follow the steps correctly I assure you that the mouse stutter will be gone.

30 fps does not get rid of the mouse stutter and 60 fps makes the mouse slower. 50 fps is the values that solves both issues and gives you the smoothest gameplay possible for halo 2 pc .

I will try that out sometime if I ever install Vista again. Thanks.

Sorry for your problems, I had some performance issues as well with the same graphics card, 3Gb ram and an overclocked 2.93Ghz processor. It just a resource hog. I could play in 720p resolution, but anything more caused lag, and for some reason all the textures flash like lights. I upgraded to a desktop with 4 gigs of ram a GTX 265 graphics card and a Quad Core 3.00 Ghz Xeon. It rusn great at 1080p. Apparently Halo 2 Vista is justa ridiculous resource hog, I dont know if you will be running it any better than you are.

This is the average H2 Fanboy.
Xfire: JacobGRocks.
50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

IDK why it is a resource hog. It was a rush port. Anyways, i can play it maxed out, 1440x900, on my gtx 260, overclocked 3.7 dual core, and 8 gb ram.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Your hardware is just fine for H2v, including with AA turned on. I doubt that your "lag" is due to low framerate, it's probably just the mouse input "lag" that plagues the game. It's a known problem and there is no good fix for it. People claim it can be minimized by limiting the framerate, but that didn't work for me. Ultimately I found the game unplayable online due to the sloppy mouse lag. Very unprofessional port done by Microsoft. Amateur hour.

I noticed the mouse lag when I use mouse/keyboard, when I used a wired 360 controller it went away. Before your post I figured it was because I use a wireless mouse and it is very sensitive.
