1. I get lots of lag and stuttering. Im on a laptop with an nvidia Geforce 8600m GT and an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz, 4 GB RAM. I can play games like Oblivion and Fallout 3 on medium settings, so Halo 2 should be no problem. When I move the mouse my FPS seem to decrease. Looking around feels like my view is moving through jello. What's the deal?
2. I can't run and crouch at the same time. If I want to crouch I have to hold still, press shift, then move. Is that normal? It's a pain.
I've got the latest drivers, and I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.
First what you need to do is download Fps limiter 0.2 from here http://www.caveofdistraction.com/fpslimiter/FPS_Limiter_0.2.r ar
Then extract the file with zip7 which can be download from here http://www.7-zip.org/
After you have extracted the file, rename the folder to fpslimiter
and then place it in your local disk.
Now go back to you desktop and created a new shortcut
and copy and pasted one of the two directories below in the the window that pop in your desktop
for 64 bit users -----
C:\fpslimiter\FPS_Limiter.exe /f:50 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo 2\halo2.exe"
for 32 bit users -----
C:\fpslimiter\FPS_Limiter.exe /f:50 "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2\halo2.exe"
The click next and name the shortcut and then click on finish
Now used the shortcut you just created to run the game.
If you follow the steps correctly I assure you that the mouse stutter will be gone.

Every time someone buys this game we find out about new, annoying problems it has. MS support told me it was specifically my hardware that was the problem, but it's pretty obvious they're ignorant or lying. One thing I can point out is, the engine is meant to run at 30 frames per second. If your system is far exceeding that rate the game can start to malfunction. Try to force vysnc on, and then off, and see how it affects performance. You can also Google for "fps limiter" and use that to cap the frame rate to 30 or 60 and see if that helps.
30 fps does not get rid of the mouse stutter and 60 fps makes the mouse slower. 50 fps is the values that solves both issues and gives you the smoothest gameplay possible for halo 2 pc .
