It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

The stickys made the threads special.

Now they are just links

I'm beginning to agree more with those who don't don't like it. But then, I'm not one of the cool kids here in the flood, so I didn't expect to see much traffic in my thread.

Another problem I have found: Even though I don't like and I don't post in them as often as normal, I know others do. This brings these threads up to the top...and puts all other normal threads nearer the bottom where people don't read as much. I know that this might be a stretch, but it seems like people are more inclined to respond to the threads closer to the top. When these threads are continuosly being posted in, it knocks other threads down, giving people the need to bump their own threads up to counter these "Mod-Recommended" threads.

And, on a lighter note, does this phrase
The second (but not any less positive) thread of forum regulars "being excellent" to each other
Have anything to do with Bill and Ted's excellent adventure?

the thing about that is if all those threads were stickeid there would be just as much room as if they were all bumbed. But even if only a couple were bumbed there would still be more room for other posts then if there were sticked.

I think I was a little redundent on that?

Now that this system has been up for a little bit I am realizing some of the problems with it. The first problem is the laziness factor. I read all of the posts in my thread that was stickied because I wanted to see what people are interested in. Since this has been implemented, I haven't looked at that thread once and I have no clue if anybody has posted in it. I'm too lazy to go into Recon's thread, click on the link for my thread, click on the button to get to the last page and then try to remember if I had already read the last poster's profile. When it was stickied, I could easily remember how many replies their where and who was the last to reply so I could just look at the number of replies to see if I wanted to check the thread out. Meh, oh well.

I think you missed my point. I meant that people usually just read the top few threads and than forget about the rest. When these threads were stickied, people knew they were different and read them, but they also knew that these threads weren't going anywhere so they were willing to respond more to threads below.

If you ever want to bring back the recommended ninja thread format feel free to. I still like that format better.

I think they should keep the descriptions of the threads up...mainly because it will make the creators of the threads feel good.

Well, I think that we've seen enough of the experiment.

I want to thank all of the members who are regulars to The Flood for participating in this little venture. Everyone who took the time to comment (both here and via PM) are just the sort of members that I value and enjoy interacting with. Each of you took the time and shared your thoughts, I really and truly appreciate that.

I think that we've seen and identified the positives and the negatives of either system. They each have benefits and they each have costs. I'm inclined to consider this valuable time spent, but for now, I am going to put things back the way that they were.

The testing was important (informal but important), the feedback was very helpful, and for me, it has answered a question that has been in my head for months.

My apologies to anyone who was inconvenienced by this experiment, and once more, my deepest thanks to those of you who shared their opinions.

Being a guinea pig is fun ;) I kinda like it with the actual stickies though.
