Supposedly a search function is coming soon.

Smilies are not my favorite. The ASCII smilies are ok, but fully animated smileys that automatically pop in just seem a little goofy to me.

Bungie should have gone with vbulletin, It is the best forum software on the planet. But since they are owned by Micro$oft they had to go with aspx and .NET. Sigh...

The defense to that given by the staff is that it can't handle the traffic that comes through here. I don't know anything about forum software.

vbulletin can handle any amount of traffic. It depends on the server. Apache and linux are the best servers for web in my opinion. Don't believe me? look at the number of members and threads at this site

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

We have about 2 million more posts then your example, and more users, and WAY more actual traffic.

And Apache and Linux can be great servers when set up correctly. However, so can IIS6 and Windows 2003. And frankly, I'd much rather write a website like this using C# than Perl. Since I've done both, I think I know more than you on the subject.

And this thread is moving to the Septagon, it is offtopic in Zanzibar.

Tom you do make a great point. And I am not knocking IIS or Windows. I am an MCSE since 2000. I am a Network administrator and work extensively with IIS6 and Windows 2003.

That is why I can make the comment I made. IIS6 is great I love it but it does have security issues that apache does not have. Also, if you do some research (You probably know this already) there are more web servers on the internet running Linux and UNIX along with apache. I am sorry that is just a fact. And PHP is far superior that asp.

As I said I would not trade my windows 2003 on my networks for anything and XP for my work stations are the best. But lets face it security is a main focus on Web Servers.

By the way I am sorry for posting in the wrong forum.

That's an idea. I'm going to call people by their real names now.

I'm pretty happy with the site at the moment, but a new new hawtness would be a nice change (or at least just more features). Not for Tom-chronos though, it'd be hell... :)

I am happy with the site also. I am not knocking Bungie.net. I am simply having a conversation about platforms used on the internet. Also, if He didn't want to be called "Tom" then why does he have it in his sig?

Also here is proof of what I am saying is correct:

There are also close over 80,000 boards.

vBulletin may be good, but IdealBB is designed to handle an unlimited number of boards. In fact, this version was designed in conjunction with Tom, among other people.

And what's wrong with it anyway? The caching system that is in place is for performance, search is standard (though hasn't been implemented here because Tom is designing a custom search engine), and smilies aren't here because they suck.

I am very impressed. I cannot imagine the amount of work that wen't into creating a forum like this. The amount of code must be mind blowing.

And as I said I didn't mean for my post to sound like a shot at these forums. I am simply pointing out other platforms for people that may not know about them. And as I said I work with Windows on a day to day basis. I love it I have few complaints about it.

As far as the smilies go, It is a matter of opinion if they suck or not.

This is the only BIG forum Ideal Science has powered... besides... Woman's Weekly?

I doubt they get as much traffic as us. :P

Well, bungie.net was a sort-of beta test for it.

Notice, if you will, the huge backflip that Fred has just made from his original post to here.

Archronos has that type of effect on people.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

I was thinking more along the lines of women and free food but whatever floats your boat.

I think a search function is needed but it's been coming soon™ for a while, and smilies are not that important. Hey look, I am happy :-D

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Emoticons are just fine in text, rather than graphics.

And as for the lack of a search engine, you can see the guide I made (whether it will be useful or not is up to what people are trying to find), or just google it.

The only thing i think its missing is the search engine and haven't before now and hopefully never will feel the need to use smilies. The only thing i'd like to see other than the search funtion is a way to subscribe to threads like other forums so you can keep up to date with the larger threads you keep returning to and posting in.

You have not read very close! I still stick to the points I made. I am simpley not going to try to keep on and on making them.

I have been around boards since they were all written in Perl. As I said before I just pointed other types of platforms. Not trying to sell them to anyone just made a point.

Well good for you Achronos...writing a website in C# and Perl. I can do that once I learn them...until now I am stuck with Javascript...once I learn that. But I can do HTML,DHTML,CSS and other basic loser stuff!

Achronos, if you're still listening, will it be possible in the future for this site to make use of the available space for those who have 1024x768 and higher resolutions (Most all of us)?

There's a lot of wasted space on the right hand side of this site ----->

Thank you.
