Subject: Will Bungie acknowledge the few brave remainders?

I've been heavily supporting and following the last few who continue to fight against the inevitable demise of Halo 2 on Xbox Live, and one thing that I keep hearing on the livestream (I watch T0 Be Continued's) is that they have been fighting for almost a week now, with nary a word from Bungie.

This isn't supposed to be a rant or anything; I just think the last few who have fought for over 120 hours (and continue still) deserve better. I guess I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but I think they deserve at least recognition. After all, they're the most loyal Halo fans you can get, sacrificing a week of their lives for the survival of a game that is doomed anyway.

I'm not complaining or anything. I just think it'd be nice of they had a little more recognition than they do now.

EDIT:
Taylor Och's comment a bit down this page should explain to some of the people who don't understand the magnitude of this.
The people online are not looking for a prize. When you sit in lobbys with these dedicated guys and gals, we talk about how lucky we are. Not how much longer we're going to have to play this game before we win a prize. It sounds cheezy, but we do it for the love. And if you can't understand that, then I'm sorry. But let us continue to push the boundaries of what we love doing, and I'm not going to try and put you down with anything you want to do in your life.

I hope that no one misunderstood my original post, thinking that I was saying they want some retribution. They don't. They do what they do because Halo 2 was not just a game...trying not to make this cheesy, but it seriously was almost a way of life. Kind of like what Och describes down there. I think a little part of me died on April 15th. They play because it was a part of their life they never want to forget, and they want it to last as long as possible.

Which is why, I think, they deserve retribution, whether they want it or not.

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.
I wish ignorance was a plague.

They were recognized in the article with the different Bungie Employees' memories of Halo 2 (At the end)

They were recognized on Friday in a news posting linked to from the front page as well as on the top of the Halo 2 page entitled "One Final Effort": http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid= 25650

Someone emailed me to ask how we felt about the few players still hanging on to Halo 2 today - those who will remain active until they are forcibly removed. Easy question. They're awesome.

  • 04.20.2010 9:38 PM PDT

This is all true, and I was aware of this....

I was thinking something more like a community interview, as Bungie often does.

"Bungie talks to The Last Halo 2 Players."

I think it makes sense. After all, they didn't keep their xbox's on for only one or two days....we're going on a week. A. Week. That's just crazy. I think an interview is probably even the least that could be done to commemorate these extremely awesome people.

Saying "they're awesome" simply doesn't put into perspective the amount of awesomeness going on here. Almost. A. Week.

I'm glad this has finally come out. I posted a few days ago and several threads have followed about letting the game end. We pretty much agree the people still playing want something from bungie (be it recognition or some special thing, etc.). But then you get people who say they just love the game -----

well I'm glad you admit that these people just want something. That is the only reason they are still playing. If they thought there was no reward they would quit. Well guess what there won't be a reward. They pretty much wasted a week of their lives for nothing beyond seeing the game end (see my last thread for my opinion: short - I'm glad the community gave a good end to the game but these people still playing ane mostly just selfish and want something and are not respecting the legacy of the game).

They deserve recognition for straining themselves and putting their lives on hold, possibly just to compete for a prize?

At least they got recognition, and I respect them as such, but really, it's pretty ridiculous that they've spent so much time on Halo 2.

Do you want your map considered for Halo: Reach matchmaking? Does it support MM gametypes? Send off an email to cartographers@bungie.org or PM me a link and description to your map for submission to the Community Cartographers. I may respond to you for updates to your map, so be sure to be open for communication and critique.

Hi /r/halo on Reddit!

Because leaving your Xbox on and turning the TV off and walking out the door requires putting your life on hold? Amazing. All these times that I've been outside my apartment over the last week must have been a hallucination.

I don't agree with you there....I don't agree they're doing it just for something in return.

They're doing it because they love Halo 2, and they don't want to see it go. And this is how they're saying goodbye.

I think that's incredible, and they should get some kind of recognition out of it. It's not like they're saying "Look, I'm playing for a week straight! Give me stuff!" They're playing because they enjoy the game, and they know it's their last chance to enjoy it.

That's why I think they deserve at least some community recognition.

Id say that playing of the game is its own reward. Being the last to enjoy it is satisfying enough.

  • 04.20.2010 10:17 PM PDT

i dunno, it's tricky. there were probably a lot of people who might've been playing up until today, except they got cut off last thursday (myself included). it's not their fault they didn't keep playing.

then again, i'd be totally for a prize/special recognition for the last 300 players (spartans) online, because it's so perfect. you could call it "warriors of thermopylae" or "dining in hell" or something.

I couldn't agree more.

To have the satisfaction of being the last player would be more than enough for me.

Yeah, Hitboxing = fail. For example, a certan user from the maw who has never played Halo 2 Xbox online links to this halo 2 bash video (its much less exreme in acutial gameplay) which shows hitboxing, but it also exists in halo 3, which also has unbalanced weps and n00b armor (recon).

Have you tried finding a thread on here that isn't about them? I'd say that they're receiving plenty of community recognition.

Perhaps I can shed some light on the situation?

Let me start out by saying that I'm not exactly swag hungry. Sure little prizes can be fun.. But did I kill myself to get all the achievements in Halo 3 and get special armor? No.. I didn't. When the world was fighting over Recon was I climbing over the bodies trying to get my hands on it? Naw. Sure it would be fun to have.. But I'm going to enjoy the game just the same as it is. I work on average about 13 hours a day. I don't have time to do that kind of thing just for some silly prize. So what makes you think I've been on Halo 2 for a week now, playing my already exhausted butt off to MAYBE win something that we don't even know exists yet..

Let me share something with you folks. In my high school years, Halo 2 wasn't just what I did. It's what I was. It killed my grades. It destroyed my sleep patterns. It shifted my friend base. Everything I thought about was in relation to Halo 2. So losing something so near and dear to me hurts. It's not just a fun game to me. It's sentimental, and I'm not good at goodbyes. It's like trying to hang onto memories of going to Disneyland as a kid. Of course they're gonna fight to keep them. I'm going to stay on Halo 2 just as long as I can. Just trying to relive those moments of before I had my life consuming job, or my bills to pay, or all the stupid things I have to worry about now. When I play Halo. I just think of all the good times I've had.

But let us continue to push the boundaries of what we love doing, and I'm not going to try and put you down with anything you want to do in your life.

kthx.

For all you playing for the love of the game, I salute you.

For all of you leaving your box on for all this time because you just want to get well known for doing so or to just get a prize...I hope your box explodes and takes a corner of your house with it.

"There is nothing either good nor evil, but thinking makes it so."-William Shakespeare

Couldn't agree more Taylor Ochs, i'm still playin for the love and memories of a game that literally introduced me to online games. I love the entire Halo Universe and for me to lose Halo 2 online it's like losing a part of myself, like a friends dying. I met my first online friend in halo 2, had my first real competitive matches, all that.

It's like knowin your buddy was gonna die soon so you two decided to have one last big party, would you say okay everyone it's midnight time for everyone to go home, HELL NO!!! you would party your ass off until everyone left of their own accord, don't presume to tell us what reasons were playing for halomed because if you had any love for the Halo franchise you would play the -blam!- out of it until you were forcibly removed like us, and don't start sayin crap like we have no lives, that's what the pregame lobby's for...dumb-asses. Trust me, i've heard it all and had enough of all you -blam!- trolls. I'm gonna go put some sweet love on Halo 2 now byeeeee XD

Tylor Ochs, I know exactly what you mean.

I never thought I'd be so attached or would spill so many tears over a single plastic disk :'-(

Halo 2 was a game, but the experiences on Xbox Live made it much more than a game.

I will forever get teary eyed when I think of Zombies on Foundry...and hiding in room 4...and blocking the entrance with boxes...or that one place where you could jump up into the corner....and then you'd get killed and have to switch teams or everyone would yell at you for cheating....

Or going into a custom game solely for glitching...
Or never ever playing matchmaking because 99% of the games were in custom games, and you only did matchmaking every once in a while when people weren't in customs....
And BXR-ing and superjumping and the golden warthog that I was sure was real....
Or getting a billion rockets to follow a Banshee....or screen peaking when playing at a LAN party....

I'm going to stop now before I get carried away. I will never miss a video game more than this one.

A Halo 2 Glitch Master, "retired" since i couldn't find anything good in Halo 3, hoping for a come back. I'm a huge Marathon fan too. If you want to verse me, please message me through my Bungie.net profile.
My weapon of choice is the warthog (Driving); I'm one of the best drivers out there, so if i get my hand on a vehicle, you're going to wish i hadn't XD

April 20th I became one of the final 30 people to play Halo 2 online. Unfortunately I was kicked by Microsoft that day.

they said we were awesome, actually. I feel so loved =D

and you know, "They're Awesome" is probably the best thing ever. There have been so many thing people have done to get attention over these few years, and not many people were talked about individually by Bungie. We were playing just because we all love Halo 2 and we don't want to see it die, and we got acknowledged by Bungie. "They're Awesome" might not seem good to you, but to me it's the greatest thing in the world...besides making Microsoft take back the kick they gave me yesterday on Halo 2 >=(

Jorge is hungarian or something like that (more than likely a new race, that a lot of cultures were combined into)

the final sixteen should be flown into bungie hq and serenaded by Marty himself :)

I'm sure once it's all said and done, bungie will have an article about the die hard's who didn't quit, fought the good fight for the game that made xbox live. Here's hoping anyway.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

I'm hoping for another shout-out, or something.

(Instrumental)

I asked Bungie earlier if they had done anything to matchmaking when we couldn't get it to work and this is what they said:

We didn't. That's all tackled on the LIVE side, but yeah, we hear Halo 2's run is now officially and technically over. :(

http://twitter.com/bungietweets

They seem to think we're done. But its not over yet!
