I slip the globe into aki's outstreched hand. she speaks to you "I am ready to become the next one..." tears fill her eyes.
My eyes seem to change again, almost completely removing the grey from it's icy shores, replaced by a softening blue, like the breaking of a warm wind across a frozen river. I bow one knee to this girl and look at her.
Listen. You have responsibility, we all do. This is my task, to protect people like you. Let me tell you something. I will never be above fear, but I will forever be above death. It no longer holds me, and do you know why? I have something else to hold on to. There are more forces than merely evil at work in our lives. I'm not forcing you to take my burden, I would never do that. Do you think it was mere fate that chose me, or Seraph, or any other great leader or hero of the past? No, they were sent, they all had purpose, as do you. If this is your purpose, I can give you no better option than to take it and live it to the utmost. But if it is not, that makes your destiny no less than the greatest warrior. Because there is something else that makes the valiant heroes above death. Do you know what that is? It's people like you, like the rest of those we protect. You are the great treasure we fight for, that we try to keep alive. Don't forget that. Some attack evil directly because they must, but they never could unless they were fighting for something greater than evil itself. What is greater than evil? Life. Life that remains preserved. I do not know if this truly is my time, but something within me tells me to be prepared for it. If this is the last time I see you, do not forget what I have said, nor what I stand for. Remember that the difference between the Hero and his people is not his own virtue, but the virtue given to him. I have given you the gift, what you choose is up to you alone.
And with that, he turned and followed Seraph into his ship, his eyes once again freezing over and forming their stony gaze, edged by a fiery glimmer in the morning, so that it almost might have been the sun's reflection...
