Halo 2 for Life!

?
I'm not going to lie to you I played BTB and Rumble pit a lot the final two years so I might not have seen these people playing if they played other play lists but I never played with any of those people and I think the majority just started playing again a few days before it went down...

I know of one Trent4now 05 who I saw in matches the last few years of halo 2 after that I don't recal any of the others.

The story was about people playing after the shutdown, not how much they played beforehand. Nobody knew that if you kept your box on that you could keep playing so of course there was a random assortment of players when it did shut down. I agree, most were there for one last hurrah but I don't know why that should matter.

Besides, a few people might have changed their GT at some point so you might have played with someone and not know it.

Me, for example. I've put so many hours into Halo 2, it's ridiculous. My Halo 2 stats don't show it, because of gamertag changes, and a lot of time put into LAN parties and offline play. Trust me, almost all of the final few players were avid Halo 2 fans, at least the ones I talked to/played with were.

Like Grumpy said, it's not about the games the we played before hand, it's about what we did after Halo 2 shut down. We didn't let it go without a fight, and that's what you should realize when you read this story. I still love totallymassive.<3

Halo 2 for Life!

My point was we should be aware that some of these people were there to be part of a moment in gaming history rather than other reasons.

Maybe it was just that they were sleep deprived but it seemed like they could careless that they were playing halo 2 and that it was more about them less about halo 2.

For example they could have used their platform to show outrage in their videos, instead I got the sense that they were saying look at me.

Those that were playing halo 2 everyday for the last 2 years knew the people that were really keeping Halo 2 alive and the majority were not in the final 50 from my estimation.

Maybe I'm just mad that I don't know or recal seeing a single person of your final 50 list (as Trent4now 05 isn't on their...) which indicates to me these people might not have been so intrested in halo 2 but being apart of something they didn't help support until the very end.

Well I guess it would have been better to have more people on the 'last 50' list that played for the last two years. What about people that played the first three years straight and for one reason or another stopped because life gets in the way sometimes and then came back under another GT? Or maybe they played the middle two years and have since changed their GT. Most of the friends I know have changed their GT 3 or 4 times in the last six years.

Idk, TM, I just don't see it mattering that much. There at the end everyone was dealt the same hand and it just happened to be those 50 that were left.

Halo 2 for Life!

It might be true that it doesn't matter, I'm not saying what I say is fact. I just want to make the point that there is a good chance that the final 50 were there at the end but little to no time the final 2 years of its existence.

People like this:

http://www.bungie.net/stats/PlayerStatsHalo2.aspx?player=mrsa mfisher&sg=3

were much more important in the continuation of halo 2 online than the final 50 (combined).

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

No one is questioning anybody's Halo 2 legacy here. The fact that these guys put their Xbox's through hell just to stay online is pretty cool if you ask me.

The Final 50 isn't any better than the last 5,000 and the last 5,000 isn't any better than the Final 50. These gamers chose to see how far they could stay online past the 15th and for that they will always be a part of a select group of awesomeness.

It was a challenge: How long can you stay online? Total games and experience had nothing to do with it. These gamers took that challenge personal and decided to stay on the ride after dark until they were forced out. But that doesn't make them better than any other Halo 2 player.

In the end, we were all a part of the great doomsday. Whether it be that kid who logged in the first game in 2004 or that kid who logged in the last game of 2010. We were all a part of a movement...a gaming revolution...in some way or the other.

I was watching some videos on YT and somehow got to a H2 video and I was suddenly reminded how much I missed H2.

The game represented a time in my life where I associated many good memories with the game and without it, I would not have those memories.

Being the final few, I did not play to be the last one standing although that discussion would become inevitable. Each night, I told that I would turn off my XBOX and let it go. When these times came, I couldn't bring myself to it so eventually I decided that my internet or XBOX would do it for me. My xbox made that decision for me nearly 2 weeks later.

Granted I had not played H2 for some time before picking up the controller and playing again before they decided to pull it off. I had grown, I was no longer in college, I had a full time career and commitments. I decided to play again because of the love of the game and it helped me reconnect with people who were in my life.

I do wish that I could get on and play H2 on XBL but I've been very fortunate to have been part of a community who could understand the significance of a game and share experiences with. I decided to start streaming because I knew I was not the only one, but others out there who could appreciate it.

So the reason I came in today, was to thank Bungie, my friends, and the Final Few for awesome times and memories. Thank you all :)

Well said

Yeah, the streaming was awesome. I remember watching people superbouncing when there was like only 7 or so players left. They were just having fun and it was fun to watch.

I've randomly received a lot of friend requests because in the past week, they said they read about me in a magazine. This story must have been punished in another magazine, cool. :p

I was there for the glory days of Combat Evolved. I was there when Halo 2 was hyped up and met the hype. I was there for the first days and last days of Halo 2 on Xbox Live. I was there for the Halo 3 days, the great Lag Age of 2008-2010. I was there to laugh and not buy ODST, I was there to vomit when Reach implemented reticle bloom. I am a Halo veteran, and a Halo legend.

It makes it even more epic if you consider that out of probably 8.5 million + gamers and several billion games played you were the last one standing.

  • 03.25.2011 9:57 AM PDT

Halo 3: Lone Wolves - 44
Team Slayer - 38
Team Doubles - 46
Team Snipers - 25
MLG - 20
Team SWAT - 28
Halo: Reach: Brigadier Grade 2 - 73% Armory Completion

Awesome.

Halo 2 will always be remembered..........

Just ran across this today...Thats awesome!

I never knew they were closing down the original servers until months afterwards when I got back into gaming...I really regretted not playing as much Halo 2 as I could.

Games I like:,
Half-Minute Hero
MBU
Portal
Halo 3 is the best Halo ever
Maps I like: Turf, Avalanche, Pylon, Sandbox, Breakpoint and many more.

There seems to be quite a connection to live streaming. But if I had Gold back then, my trusty ol' xbox would have kept going till her laser went out...

It really doesn't make sense why people turned off their xboxes on that day, if it were me I would have kept playing till it said I was disconnected. The same thing still happens now, I had this 48 trial and played for 6 hours after ti expired because I didn't leave the party on Halo: Reach.

no. nonono

While I was not part of the final few when Microsoft shut down the original Xbox games, I sure as hell will be when they shut down this generation.

I never did like Halo 2. I thought it was completely inferior to Halo CE. It was a disappointment to me. But I do respect the fact that it revolutionized online gaming, especially for consoles. It brought millions together and that's something I won't deny.

As for the people that stuck around even after the end, I won't say good job. I won't say congratulations. I know you guys didn't do this because you wanted to be the last ones, you wanted to play the game that defined a generation for as long as you could. Congratulating you for playing a game that ended is quite bittersweet in a way.

So I'll just say I hope you had a good ride with a few friends along the way. Because in the end that's what the game is revolved around. And I bet you had a great time sticking it out with some buddies. Much respect.

  • 05.11.2011 3:27 AM PDT

This is a Reach account that I created the day they announced his name in a bnet weekly update. Any stats regarding ODST or Halo 3 are irrelevant. Also, Halo CE master race. Halo 1 > other halo games > other games.

Account Status: Silver :(
