Many people dislike ODST, but I thought it was an awesome game, what about you guys? Did you buy the game just for the Mythic Disc, or did you honestly want to own and play the game.

Post why you chose yes/no below:

"Do the impossible, and kick reason to the curb!!!"

I was pretty excited when it first came out. It's a pretty awesome game considering how different it is from your standard Halo games, especially Firefight which despite lacked online support reminded me (and everyone else) of Horde Mode in Gears of War 2.
Anyway I think the main problem with ODST though was that the campaign was a bit too short, which is a shame because I think that it has a great storyline. Like, I was expecting the campaign to be short since ODST was more of an "expansion" to the Halo story instead of a stand alone Halo game, so what I did was do one mission per day in the campaign; The problem with that though was that I kept getting dragged into the story and wanted to see what happened next, which lead me to beat it in like 3 days or something.
Also, I think that it was kind of a waste to put a separate Halo 3 multiplayer disc when they could have just put the 3 new mythic maps up for download on XBL.

So basically: Good game, awesome multiplayer, great story, but too short.

I thought the experience and atmosphere of the hub, and the side story, were executed brilliantly. Unfortunately, the main story was far too short and the entire game suffered as a result.

They should have never gone back on the "not an expansion" thing - they said in the BWUs leading up to release that it had became a game in its own right. It hadn't.

Firefight is also pretty awesome, playing it now. Hit up my XBL, "Phoenix Sabe". Always up for a game of Firefight.

EDIT: Plus, a year ago I sold my Halo 3 disc as my 360 had broken, not under warranty. I recently rebought a 360 with ODST - so the Mythic disc was a giant bonus, great steal at £15!

Glad to see you guys liked it, I made this thread because I got sick of seeing people say ODST sucks or it was just an expansion of halo 3, the mythic disc was, but ODST was its own game.

Firefight is probably my favorite feature

You guys are right, it does seem they cut the storyline too short, but they didnt have that long to work on it from what I've heard, but overall, its a great game.

ODST is awesome.

The lack of matchmaking for firefight? Meh, I like playing alone or with a few friends, why get random people to join?

The campaign was awesome, especially once you see it from different angles with the audio logs. The story was awesome for both campaign and the audio log stories.

People who say it doesn't look good? Fizzle to you. Go on Uplift Reserve and grab a ghost in one of those small buildings. That's damn fine lighting. Really awesome work using the Halo 3 engine. Hand-animated cut-scenes? Hand animated doesn't mean bad.

The only problem I have with it is the inability to make video clips. That and the only up to two player split-screen.

Also, playing firefight with IWHBYD on and hearing your character? Awesome. Sure as hell beats hearing just grunts and death noises.

If Bungie were to add matchmaking for firefight, you wouldn't get matched up with jerks as often as Halo 3's matchmaking because A)You're working together to survive, not just kill each other and tea-bag, and B) The community of people who still play ODST is far more tame than Halo 3's.

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I wanna be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

Yes. I didn't expect much from it.

I loved it. I came home from GameStop just after midnight, and played campaign in the dark until the morning. Since I had the day off, I took a nap and then went back to the game. The missions were awesome, but the deserted streets are what kept me playing. Plus, ODST has what I feel is the best music of any Halo game. While I wish the story had been just a little bit longer, it totally exceeded my expectations.

For the time being Im satisfied but once Reach comes out, the disc is going back in its case. Never gonna be touched, going to collect dust.

I agree entirely, alot of people I know say that Marty was stupid for adding in those saxophones, but I thought it gave the perfect sound for wandering the deserted streets.

:O

Well. I got it a while ago and I stopped playing just cause It confused me (VISR) and the fact I was wondering round in pitch black.

Today I went on it again and finished the whole campaign, I'm pleased to say that it's a great game.

The music is great too. I enjoyed the part where you have to use the banshee and the others are in the carrier. It made it rely on you to do most of the stuff which I felt was great.

I must admit I was a little upset that it wasnt longer. I do hope they include situations of using flyin' vehichles into the Reach campaign like they did with this.

Only big negative I thought was it was really too dark in some places (even with the light on.)

I felt a little riped of when i brought it, to find out it had no matchmaking, it killed me.

Uhh, Bungie confirmed it didn't have matchmaking long before it was released.

I am looking to make my own cartoon someday, but in the mean time, I like to work on a side project that is a fan work of Dragon Ball. If you want to see it, than check out this link

If you have any questions about it, you can ask 'em in the forum or E-mail me.

I think matchmaking would end up being a misreable experience, because random people being paired together in Firefight, will probably not work together all that well, and if they do, well than it's just pure luck or a combination of great players.

I do feel the Campaign was somewhat short. However, shortness is easily overcome by replayability. What I feel would have made the campaign funner is different modes of play, other than just skulls and whatnot, with different objectives and competitive play, like a timed mode that effects more than your score as time elapses, or a competitive campaign where each player is trying to outdue the other, or a version of campaign mode where you have lives, etc.

of course if you added stuff like that, you'd want to add subtance to the campaigns, like alternate routes and having the levels change each time.....I guess implement some of the level concepts from Left4Dead 2....and a few other titles.

all in all, it's still fun and worth replaying anyway, but like any game, it could always be better. had they had more time and budget for the game, I'm sure it would have been far better, but I suppose the choice to convert it from a add-on to a title was last minute, they didn't have time to make it like Halo 3's other brother, and it's instead more like Halo 3's Sidekick. Still a good game, but I really wish it wasn't full retail price, I have a hard enough time paying for gas, I don't want to pay another 60 bucks when I can't even afford Xbox Live

I have just started playing ODST very recently, but I can safely say that it this game has completely superseded my expectations. I think it's great.

QFT. My experience exactly! Bought the soundtrack too because it is so atmospheric (got a physical CD- itunes is -blam!- on crack charging double for it). Now it is bundled w/ Elite systems and the price has dropped...just a month or two after I paid full price. Still, I love the Blade Runner-esque dark metropolis and the change in tactics from Spartan to merely human ODST. My only complaint is that Dare is a bit manly looking- make me think "What the -blam!-, Buck?"

Come get some.

Yes. In fact, I really enjoyed Halo 3:ODST. I played it (And Halo 3 Mythic) non-stop until Borderlands was released and recently, I've begun playing it a lot with my friends again. It's still a blast and even better than I remember it! :D

Willing to help get achievements.

Pretty much. Its campaign is great, music stays on the topic of the characters level. Music in the HQ level when the banshees and phantoms come was epic. Firefight is cool. Be'd better if it was lil'bit online though.

Very satisfied. One of the best Halo campaigns yet and Firefight was so much fun. Also I hadn't bought any of the Halo 3 maps so this added even more value to Halo 3.

Yeah, I like the game. The Campaign was great, although pretty short. The Firefight mode is fun too. I'm satisfied with my purchase. I'm still playing it in fact.
