This thread is for all of the member who believe whole heartedly that a demo of halo2 being released on august 24th cannot be possible. although the argument that having a demo would spoil plot line is very valid, i have a possibility that may make sense, and even work off of that logic. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, THIS IS ONLY SPECULATION (please no flaming).
Imagine a demo of the single player game. You get to play the first level of the game, but here's the catch...it's really..chronologically the last event in the story line. with a dramatic ending...but no one knows how the events led up to his point. (if you are unsure of what i mean by that, take any Quinton Terrintino movie. All of his movie's time frames are out of order, but still piece together a great story. so now, imagine, that in Halo2 there could be the first level...played out as..say, some important character...like cortana or something has died (thats a cruddy example as it isn't very intriguing) and the players don't know how this happened. but the fact of the matter is, everyone after having played the demo, would want to know how this happened...thus form an economical point of view...everyone who already owns halo2 would want it even more..to find out the plot...and those who do not own halo2 would be even more intrigued and thus further persuaded to purchase the game.
Now look at it from the standpoint of OXM (official xbox magazine) who is owned by microsoft...and I'm fairly certain that microsoft has strong ties with bungie for the making of Halo2. I have no idea how many pre-orders of Halo2 have already been sold...but i'm guessing its a very high number, just going by the amount of articles of Halo2 that have been printed in previews OXM magazines, and going by the strong advertizing campaing that is being put into effect, like for example the leows theatres articles that have been posted in the forums, and also the advertizing campaign have been addressed in the weekly updates, several times. Anyways, my point being...alot of copies of Halo2 have been sold, this equals money for OXM if they release a demo of Halo2. To those members on this forum who say they would rather not spoil the game, I'm sure at least a small part of you is saying...well maybe I might be missing out on something big.
Well to sum up what I've said, it is possible to have a demo, it could possibly increase sales for Bungie, because of some cleverly thought out plot scheme, and marketing scheme and it could also mean big money for OXM because of an equally well thought out marketing sheme. I'd like to finish of this topic with a pole.

Since there have been so many problem with my the understanding of my concept, i will try to draw a diagram for easier understanding.

fig.1 Gaming line (the way the game will be played out)
1st. Massive event (and end of story) -------------------- 2nd. Events leading up to Massive event (and end of story)

fig.2 Time line (the actual way things happened in the story)
1st. Events leading up to Massive event (and end of story) -------------------- 2nd. Massive event (and end of story)

Other Ideas That Have Been Suggested, or Support an Early Demo Release.
-A Zanzibar map could be produced and reveal no plot.
-There have been rumblings of a "Best of" xbox demo disk in OXM for the August issue, on the front is a picture of the new and improved Master chief sporting Mjolnir armor.

yeah i didnt even bother with the rest, but anyway i really seriously doubt that if they release a demo the level would be the very last stage. they would probably do the E3 2003 stage since it doesnt ruin any plots points.

Hmm... Nice theory, though it could be boiled down to, say, half of that text? Nevermind though, it's still an interesting read in my opinion.

If what you said is true, then maybe we'll have it like that. A demo on 24th of August.
-but-
I still think there won't be one, even though I clicked the 'yes' on the vote. Because they'll only do one if it's under the exact circumstances you specify...

Bungie, as far as I remember, only did a demo for ONI, and they certainly didn't do one for Halo. Add to this they have officially said there won't be a demo (didn't actually see this, but people are saying it's official, so I'll stick with it).

I didn't mean they would give you the last level...its actually the first level of the game. but chronologically its the last event of the story. or in other words...ending of story is the first level. I don't know how to simplify my idea...if anyone can help me out?

It would have been hard to put out a demo for Halo before its release seeing as it was a launch title.

In short what you're trying to explain is that they'll publish the demo like this:

1st level, but one of the later chapters. Thus, there is a previous storyline we don't know about but are constantly being hinted at. People will want to know "what the hell happened before that?" and buy the game.

thank you shadow runner lol. thats exactly how i htink they could do it. the rest of my rant is about how people will gain economically from a demo.

My bad. But the point still stands somewhat; it's not likely they'll release one 2½ months early.

I saw a pic on the web of an oxm issue dated for aug 24, and had previews and stuff games like doom 3 h2 ect. and it was a holiday issue, meaning games to come out close to that time. But i think the pic was fake cuz it didnt look like any other oxm issues

The point is that it's not like bungie doing a demo this early, in relation to the game's release date.

Not sure if they actually did a demo for ONI on PS2, or if the demo even hit before the game?

Its just a confusing concept to explain but i will try. Your idea is more of a different game, where we already knew what was going to happen before we play and have to go through the story, kind of a fate plot. Thats not Halo though, its more like that Tv movie where the guy had to solve who killed him in the next 6 or something days.

Anyways i think if there "were" to be a demo it should be strictly multiplayer, since a single player demo would be incomplete and when you buy the actual game you wouldn't be up to playing that level since you played it nonstop since you got it.

edit: damnit all the time i took writting this someone already explained it and my idea is different lol
