I like your idea, and I (unlike everyone else it seems) understand your timeline theory, but considering the way bungie has done things I don't think thatnwill be the case. and as for Aug 24, wait and se, then we'll know.

Now look at it from the standpoint of OXM (official xbox magazine) who is owned by microsoft...and I'm fairly certain that microsoft has strong ties with bungie for the making of Halo2. I have no idea how many pre-orders of Halo2 have already been sold...but i'm guessing its a very high number, just going by the amount of articles of Halo2 that have been printed in previews OXM magazines, and going by the strong advertizing campaing that is being put into effect, like for example the leows theatres articles that have been posted in the forums, and also the advertizing campaign have been addressed in the weekly updates, several times. Anyways, my point being...alot of copies of Halo2 have been sold, this equals money for OXM if they release a demo of Halo2.

LOL! Microsoft doesn't own OXM, and OXM won't gain money because Halo 2 is selling very good, they only get money by the amt. of MAGAZINES THEY SELL.

For anyone still not quite clear on the last chapter first idea... think MAX PAYNE. You start the game at the end then play through to find out what happened in the story.

It works in a game like MAX PAYNE, but I'm not sure it would fit with HALO 2.

You know, I don't know if anyone has already said this, but in the FAQ it never says that there will not be a demo release, all it says is that there won't be a "public BETA demo" and aren't demos usually not for testing, so it wouldn't be the beta, it would be the final version of the game, just a demo, I don't know.

Ummm, dark fusion, im not sure who does own it, can u please provide me with an answer as to who does own OXM? for everyone here's benefit. and assuming it isn't microsoft...whoever the company it is, will have good sales because of it, no matter who the company is.

this was taken from another thread in the foru from boyd5941

I was reading my OXBM that came a couple days ago, and I looked carefully at the inserts used to order new subscriptions. It says that if you sign up, you will get a free disc with your paid order.

Of course, this is nothing new. We all get a demo disc with our magazine. However, this disk is entitled, "The Best of Xbox Game Demos, Vol.1". My interpretation of a title like that, is that the disk will be ALL DEMOS. Next to the advertisement is a picture of the disc. This disc is different than the normal ones we get... it's not numbered. Instead of the disc number, the aforementioned title is printed on the disk. As with all discs, various names of the included demos are printed on the edge.

Although, none of those titles say "Halo 2", low and behold... there's the MC on the front of the disk! We're not talking about MC from Halo 1... no no... the new and improved MC from Halo 2 is pictured on the front of this "Best of Xbox" demo disk.

Is this yet another clue that October's OXBM issue will include a demo of Halo2? I don't know, but it sure looks promising!

We'll see!
thanks again to boyd for the nice find.

Hope you know they said only people that worked with the project can test it. And the august 24th thing only could mean that yall figured out when they would test it. Or maybe it will be a beta test only for people on fansites and not to let the casual gamer get to test it. Come on every1 on this forum cant be casual gamer. A casual gamer is a person that would play games and put them back down. Hard core gamers try to find out everything about the game and be on a forum of the game.

They already had a beta test way back, and only let microsft workers try it. it wouldnt make sence to do another.

Think about it guys, ESRB has already rated this game (which Bungie reportedly rushed to get done), the game must be completed in order to be rated. This makes me want to think that Halo 2 will be realeased on the 24th (a tuesday hint hint)

err well i appreciate the effort, but that idea is probably the least likely i have read. That story telling technique that tarantino loves doesnt trade off well into games , they have tried it before. Plus that is not the way bungie stories play out. Any way i think that if a demo was released early that it should be either the new mombasa level or more likely a multi only zanzibar disc.

you are wrong, a game doesnt not have to be 100 percent complete for a rating. This was proven in a past thread with a link to an old story of halo 1 where they release the box art with the rating on the front but that was 4 months before the game came out.

Ok, all signs point toward a demo release or another theatrical trailer (big whoop). Hasn't anyone noticed that when a rumor spreads on these forums that a moderator shoots them down? Bungie/moderators aren't saying anything, becasue at least something is going to happen on Aug. 24th. The game is not finished, but it got a rating already, that happens frequently. HALO 1 had a Teen rating for months before it was out, I have magazine ads with the Teen rating listed. There is no way in hell that the full game will be released on Aug. 24th I gaurantee it, plus the online Beta just begun, betas are tested for at least a month. So at the very least we (the public) will get a slew of pictures. If not that a step up and another theatrical trailer. And of course if not that, a demo of some sort. Trust me something is going to happen on the 24th, it seems though that we all may be getting our hopes up too much, but we'll see in 22 days...

There was a good movie called Momento where a guy had a brain disfunction that gave him very short term memory, so the movies played out five minutes at a time from the end to the beginning, and threw in the twist in the last scene. This idea might work in a game like Max Payne but for Halo2 I don't think it would be a good idea. After playing through that last level (technically first, cronologically), you might find some great twist that solves all the mysteries, but it wouldn't be as thrilling or satisfying in this kind of game because the whole way through, you already know how the story ends. Max Payne is a kind of game that can pull this off, but in the ending of a Halo game you should defeat the covenant, save earth, or blow up something really big, not solve a mystery. So, your theory is absolutely possible, but Bungie probably realizes that making the last level the "last" level gives it much more of a punch.

Alright well maybe if you dont like the idea of knowing the ending...maybe the first level is a bad dream and you have to stop whatever consequence u dream about...like in my example cortana dies...so maybe its a dream and everything is leading up to that...but you have to stop it. that still leaves room for an open ending and also causes the same form of intrigue.
