I prefer the pistol for obvious reasons, but I think the Assault Rifle looks cooler and it's always fun to obliterate those groups of grunts with it.

I like the AR, being an awesome rifle, and the only useful gun in the Halo series with a 60 bullet clip (the SMG was fail by comparison, due to having to duel wield it). But the pistol just destroys, it's the closest thing to unbalanced there is in Combat Evolved.

Pistol. Assault Rifle is a beast, but the pistol is great for everything.

Plasma Pistol. Seriously, if you haven't tried playing through with just the Plasma Pistol on Legendary, you haven't played Halo properly.

I could not agree more with Ghost, I love playing as much campaign as possible with just the PP, combine it with the AR and there is pretty much nothing you cannot accomplish (ok, combine it with anything else weapon wise and there is no stopping you).

The whole deal with playing legendary for me is trying different tactics, making the game as hard as possible while still being able to enjoy it!

Agreed, all the Plasma Pistol needs in Halo 1 is the ability to disable vehicles. Then it would it dominate everything.

I've gotta give it to the AR. The H1 pistol was badass at distance, but the AR has a feeling never recreated when you hold the trigger down. I think it might just be the fact it sounds like a bullet unlike the H3 AR.

Wait, are you talking about the Human or Covenant Pistol? It's a pretty big difference.

Pistol was godly. Would rarely drop it.

That level Truth and Reconciliation was a nightmare for me. An entire level without the pistol I was -blam!-ed from the start O.O

Pistol. Made the multiplayer.

Pioneer and Enthusiast for Halo 3.

Pistol is a great gun for Campaign.
Halo PC is hard to keep on the enemy for Multiplayer, since their is no Emeny Lock On Targets for the cross fire. Your just doing your best to try and get the other player! The Assault Rifle is great without the Non-Lock On Opponenet cross, you don't even need it!

wow, i think i have been gone for about a year, and it amazes me that people still have this little vote thing. in a good way, in no way am i bashing the love of Halo Combat Evolved, cause i think its the best game out there. The pistol kicks butt, strait up. if you are good with the pistol, you will kill anyone who is good with whatever their favorite weapon is

Pistol is far more versatile, but most people never wrung out every ounce of performance the AR was capable of. I found you could take down Red and Blue elites with it quite easily even on legendary if you played to it's strengths. Short bursts, circle towards them, dodge their melee, whack them when you've got an empty mag and they are toast.

I agree with the opinion that that Plasma Pistol is the most powerful, useful weapon in the game. It actually has longer range than the M6D and fires much faster than the Plasma rifle. When the popcorn flood first swarm you on Guilty Spark see how fast you can lay down the plasma to keep them off you.

Wanna know why my username is so q.ueer? Cuz I was 17 when I made it. And I was a q.ueer at 17. Everyone is.

Two things.

1.)Wild Recon. Check it out.

2.) ODST 4th Battalion. Join it. Love it. Live it.

The Assault Rifle. It takes a true master to beat the campaign on Legendary using the AR as your primary.

Pistol because of the range and power, definitely.

I loved it in Multiplayer, although I sort-of liked the Assault Rifle in campaign more because I used it on the close-combat missions.

Halo:CE is the best.

Wheres the option for both?

I chose the assualt rifle. If only it were alittle more accurate when you held down the trigger button. I mean hes the master cheif. There is no gun kickback for him. He could duel wield a shogun and assualt rifle if he wanted.

Recoil was not the reason for the AR's inaccuracy. If that was the case then the barrel would climb under sustained automatic fire. The real issue was either the barrel improperly mated to the action or too thin of a barrel profile. The heat generated by sustained fire would make the barrel tend to wander shots all over the place.

Firing short, 3-5 bullet, bursts was what the AR was made for. Pay attention to your Marines. See how they fire that weapon next time you play. They never mash the trigger down.

Pistol. Because it has a faster rate of fire, headshot capability, 2x scope, and very powerful. It's also my favorite weapon to mod.

I remember pwning someone in Halo 1 multiplayer with a Pistol. Good times. Good times. :)

On that point I agree wholeheartedly. I view the AR as one of the hardest weapons to use outside of its limits, and that is what makes using it on Legendary so appealing when I want a challenge. I did a whole game runthrough once where I used just the AR and Plasma Rifles when they were available and it was darn hard, but in a good way!

I pay attention to my Marines! Well, when they have rocket launchers or are tossing grenades anyway. I agree with the short burst strategy, but I have to admit there is something awfully satisfying about having an Elite or Jackal nice and close and then opening up full bore on them, mashed trigger to the extreme in those cases! Then I calm down, smile and look for something else Covie to kill :)
