I think the best way to counteract spam would be this; the Topic Rating System.

How it works:

At the bottom of each thread, there would be a rating, starting at 50%. There would be two options good and bad.

Selecting Good raises the rating of the thread, Bad lowers the rating of the thread.

If the rating drops below 20%, the thread dissapears from the listing entirely, it wouldn't be deleted, it would just not be crowding up the boards.

If the rating rises above 80% the thread would get either bolded or a gold star next to it.

This would be a good way to combat spam, it would forever create a way of saying that the spam shouldn't exist without threads, replies, or private messages. This would keep otherwise good members from getting banned/blacklisted when they respond to spam

EDIT: If you get blacklisted, your votes should be removed, limiting the spammers combating legitimate threads.

EDIT #2: I suppose that it would not be cookie-dependant. I don't know how that works.

Discuss.

It would also be a superb way for spammers to combat quality threads.

At this time, I doubt the majority of Bnet users would be able to use this function in a mature manner.

However, Bungie are working on a karma system which may function similarly.

Very interesting. There is a downside...it is like a poll, which if I reset my cookies I can post twice in. There is a possibility of a lot of abuse.

No, not really. You give each user a set amount of points to mod threads, stored server side.

The members here generally aren't mature enough to manage such a system, and I'd imagine would be pretty hard to code into the existing Ideal BB. Good plan, otherwise.

Karma? You mean like spammers are gonna get spammed like ten times worse? Haha, suckers!

Lets make numerous accounts so we can have more points than any of the other members!

Blacklisting is when the moderators revoke the privilege to post in the main forum. A Theme Master is a custom title given to members who have constructed themes for the groups.
