In my view, there are 4 main categories that these games compete in for my top dollar(well, I'll probably get all three, though).
Best, then 2nd Best, then Worst
Graphics
Doom, Halo 2, Half-Life 2
Gameplay
Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Doom
Immersion
Half-Life 2, Halo 2, Doom
Multiplayer
Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Doom
Replay Value
Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Doom
So, tally it up, and for me you get Halo 2, Half-Life 2, and Doom. The replay value was just how much more time you could spend playing, but multiplayer has some of that, too, so Half-Life 2 just trails Halo 2, with Doom in a distant third. Doom just doesn't seem very story-driven to me, it's just monster pops out, kill it. When I watched those Half-Life 2 videos, one thing struck me as amazing:the degree of a sense of realism. Everything seemed so real, and true, and the environments were gorgeous, plus how you could interact with everything. And then Halo 2 single-player looks absolutely beautiful, plus the story, as far as we know it, seems great, plus, Halo 2 multiplayer beats any multiplayer hands down for me. The original was the best, this is gonna be even better. Half-Life 2 multiplayer(CS:Source) doesn't seem interesting to me(I didn't like the original Counter Strike). And Doom multiplayer seems almost non-existent to me(what, 4 people at a time? What is this, N64?)
