Although nothing is confirmed, what's your take on not having health packs? What about power ups? Shields only?

As far as power ups go, I think that they could stay or go. I'm not really concerned with what they decide to do. On one hand, they do offer a bit of depth to the gameplay (controlling the overhshield on Prisoner), but they can also be considered cheap, and not a good representation of actual skill.

When it comes to health packs, I think they should still be in the game. This isn't Ghost Recon or Socom, or any other health pack-less shooter, this is HALO 2. The game with the recharging shield system and the most addictve gameplay in ages. Health packs just seem right.

From the recent impressions by those guys who won the Mountain Dew contest, they made some statements about how the shield seems much stronger now, despite the absence of health bars/packs, which could possibly even everything out. However, I'm not completely sure on how this would work. If you're shot by a plasma pistol and your shield drops, and they get off a few shots, but you manage to get away and let your shields recharge, will it take just as much to kill you the next time?

Regardless of how they do it, I have full faith in Bungie and whatever they decide to do, as well as the fact that a few people might actually read this lengthy post and provide some good feedback. Let's see if I'm right.

As far as health recharging, last I remember Bungie saying anything they said that there is no health bar, but it acts like shields in that it replenishes itself, just much slower than shields.

Even so, you still dont know how much you have, so it forces you to be tactical and move forward to your objective, instead of running back looking for a health pak.

Also, without powerups level designs are even MORE dynamic. In levels like Battle Creek it seemed like areas were made for powerups to sit, now there's no need for it.

I agree with you on the power ups. I'm thinking that the multiplayer levels in Halo 2 will make power ups the last thing you'll be thinking about while playing a game of team slayer. You'll be more worried on ways to take advantage of your environment, especially with all of the interactivity that Bungie will be incorporating.

Do you have a link to what the Dew kids said... ? The only problem with having a super powerful sheild that will recharge is that if someone gets you down to a small amount of sheild, and they flee long enough for the sheild to recharge, then you start fighting them again, its like fighting someone who wasn't just it a damaging skirmish, as they show no signs of health peril. In Halo 1, you would fight with someone, get them down to 1 red bar, then stumble upon them later with one red bar and take them out easy as pie.

I would prefer health bars and packs, but it wouldn't ruin the game if it didn't have them. It won't be that hard getting used to. As for power-ups, I could live with/without them, but sneaking up on some invisibly is alot of fun.

My sentiments exactly. Having power ups would be still be great, but not having them could be just as great.

On a side note, do you think it's possible that Bungie could be implementing some new power ups? If so, what would you like to see added?

I think people would get a lot more out of the game if it had an option for power ups. that way, if someone wants them, they can add them. if they don't want to, they don't have to.Just a thought...
