Through war we will teach your heresy.
Through battle we will teach your frailty.
Through death we will teach your fate.

It seems to be some sort of grenade launcher, but I don;t think anyone could tell you exaclty what it is...

  • 04.30.2004 3:30 PM PDT

In Halo First strike the Brutes use a bladed grenade launcher that is described almost exactly like the gun in that picture. So yes, we know what it is.

Are those pipe bombs that the brutes have hanging around their waiste? They look like some kind of grenade or bomb.

I think it's just ammo for the gun.

It would be nice to see a new kind of grenade

  • 04.30.2004 4:22 PM PDT

Yeah, they look like the grenade cartridges that you would use for such a gun. Some think they're a new gernade, which I think isn't true.

Yeah, ammo for te grenade gun makes the most sense, since they do have a grenade gun. Oh man i cant wait for this game.

I wonder if the Brute Gun does more melee damage? Think that would make sense since it does, after all, have a blade on the underside. But the Needler in Halo 1 did have needles... I guess well only know when we get our hands on it....

It is in fact a Grenade Launcher with a blade, as for the cartridge type things on his belt its either decoration or ammo for his gun, i highly doubt its a new grenade, it doesn't even look like one.

In First Strike the Brute's gun is described as a grenade launcher, and yet in the E3 2003 demo it is very weak and has a low refire rate. As I'm sure you all know, in the E3 demo it fired what looked like plasma rifle bolts that made stuff spark when it hit something. Unless the Brutes use more than one kind of gun, this seems kind of contradictory, as in the book these weapons blew the Spartan-IIs away.

The gun is called the Ginsu 9000 (which is in EGM from last june) those things on his belt however are unknown. Hopefully it is like a plasma grenade, but most likely ammo clips.

Ginsu 9000 was a joke, Josh. They named it after those Chinese kitchen knife sets because of the blade. There is no official name yet.

Maybe the things on his belt is a type of flash grenade?

The things on the Brute's belt are most like ammunition for the gun. My first impression, before reading about the grenade launcher, was that it was a flamethrower, because the red stuff in those sticks on the Brutes' belts looks like a liquid.

I love the smell of napalm in the mornin'.

Smells like... victory.

i need some sleep.....

i hate bees...

no rest for the weary...

in that new OXM every one is talking about it says its a slug thrower even though in the books there grenade launchers

Hmm... slugthrower? That's another contradiction. If we can safely say the ones in the E3 03 demo were plasma weapons of some sort, and the book version was a grenade launcher, what the heck is going on? I wonder if there are in fact 3 weapons that the Brutes use. Sounds like quite a variety so far. Anyways, the only weapon in the demo that could be called a slugthrower is the new gun mounted on the Warthog, as it appears to be a gauss gun. It uses magnets to accelerate the projectile to hypersonic speeds. I don't know why you get that funky "yellow streak" effect in games, as in real life you'd just hear a loud crack and the taget would have a nice clean hole in it. Ideal for anti-armor applications, no so good for anti-personnel. You'd want jacket hollow point rounds for that kind of work, or maybe the hi-explosive tipped rounds the M6D fires.

Well slugthrower could be the same as a grenade launcher, just refering to the ammo as slugs. Also the slugs may be plasma which ignites once it leaves the barrel. Seems like they are describing the same weapon.

Technically you're right, Hedwig. A slugthrower could be any gun, but it's a term used almost exclusively for gauss guns in the sci-fi genre.
