I know that after the flood was released, I became good good friends with the Covies. I played through on Heroic for the first time in a year, and upon reaching the sniper rifle in Keye's, I thought to myself:

"What the hell!? Why would I want to kill the Covenant?"

However, on arriving at the spec ops Covenant, I found I had something in common with the flood...

Did you ever "switch sides?"

I never switched sides, but I always went after Sentenals because they think they so cool. Oh look at me I can float and I have lasers! And killing Sentenals is the closest I can get to killing Guilty Spark. Floating bastards...

The annoying thing is that all the enemies wants to kill MC the most. If you come by a nice little battle between flood and covenant, and stands in a place were they can see you, they will almost always forget whatever they were doing and starting to kill you.

I just recently played through from the Library to the end and I never noticed before how many battles you could let them win for you. On the Maw, I let all 3 (flood, covie, & sentinels) fight for 10 minutes, and when I went in, they were ALL dead!

I always leave battles between The Flood and Covenant for a minute or two. When you go in, the enemies are weak and they are usually more focussed at the things that have been kicking their butt for the past two minutes instead of turning on me. I sometimes stand out in the background and lob grenades into the battle. Its fun to see how much you can do with a single frag grenade. If you wait for some carrier forms to be around then you could hear explosions for about 10 seconds after your grenade.

I wait until the gunshots stop, then kill anything that isn't already on the ground. The Covenant usually wins though, so that's good for me.
