im sorry im not up to speed with the forum but i thought i could put in my two cents

The convenant are unleshing a "holy war" against the humans. They believe the gods themselves want us clensed from exhistance. It would be interesting to find out why. was it a politcal move made by a prophet to stop an uncomeing civil war within the ranks of the covenant to unite them against a common foe? it will be interesting to see how the covenant's religion will play out in halo 2. I wouldnt be surprised if a covenant sect broke away from the mainstream religion, allieing with the humans. theres many ways this story can play out.
in conclusion i dont think the war against humans was mainly a poltical move (although i said it could be) but one based on religish vision givein to a prophet by the mythical, -blam!-, covenant god. ( heres another tid bit, do u think they are going to be hunters in halo 2, i havent seen ne pics plus i think they made the brute as a replacement cuz guys we all know and love hunters but... they just so easy to kill)

Why does everyone say that brutes could tear apart a hunter? Tartarus could tear apart a hunter, he is probably one of the strongest Brutes so he could, but that doesn't mean that all brutes can.
And another thing, am I the only one hear who thinks the elites couldn't kick the Brutes ass. They have more tactical mids, and now with the new covie sniper, they could unleash hell via plasma.

first of all. in the book the first strike, the prophet even says a brute is so strong it can rip a hunter apart. its one of the last pages if u want to check it out. But i dont think a brute could easily beat an elite in a fight. Elites are more agile then brutes ( a good guess after watching them duck, dodge, and throw them selves out of the way of ur gernade). They can also lay down alot of fire and have almost ever shot hit u. From what ive seen and herd brute are could beat down an elite with there bear hands and with the egde on the weapon they could also rip one apart too but i havent really seen or heard enough of how they shoot or what ( ive seen clips from the demo of a brute takeing and missing alot of shots not very good) so im guessing their not as good marksmen as the elites. In the end im guessing it would come out even although i think brutes are kinda retarded and elites are the -blam!- =)

also id like to talk about the theroy of prophets putting brutes over elites and elites rebeling against the covenant. well thats just silly. brutes are just that ... brutes. The prophets wont do that simple becuase elites are much smarter then the brutes and need them for tactical and politcal reasons. Brutes will stand more as an elite warrior then a high ranking officer. so i think that will put the "elite rebelion" theroy to rest.

Holly crap Sheila
thats a lot to take in and i know this really doesnt have a lot to do with the Covie's hieratchy but Youmy friend i think may have just cracked something erery one missed.

Quote #1-"The installation was specifically built to study and contain the
Flood. Their survival as a race was dependant upon it. I am grateful to see
that some of them survived to reproduce."

Quote #2-"The Flood are already hard at work preparing your vessel. It's
parasitic nature belies the Flood's intelligence."

Quote #3-"Puzzling. You brought such ineffective weapons to combat the Flood
despite the containment protocols."

Quote #4-"I would conjecture that the other species currently on the
installation is responsible for releasing the Flood. They seem most persistent
in their attempts to access restricted areas."

Quote #5-"More or less. Technically this installation's pulse has a maximum
effective radius of twenty five thousand light years, but once the others
follow suit, this galaxy will be quite devoid of life, or any least any life
with sufficient biomass to sustain the Flood...But you already knew that, I
mean, how couldn't you? We have followed our outbreak containment procedure to the letter.
You were with me each step of the way as we managed this crisis."

Quote #6-"Why would you hesitate to do what you have already done?"

Quote #7-"Last time you asked me if it were my choice would I do it. Having had
considerable to time to ponder your query my answer has not changed. There is
no choice. We must activate the ring."

Quote #8-"You can't imagine how exciting this is to have a record of all our
lost time. Human history is it? Fascinating.

these quotes you have here offer up some damn good evidence that there may very well be a forrunner human link. I found two more that offer up to this idea had have one otehr thing i'll get to in a minute.

# 1 . 343 Guilty Spark : these sentinels will supplement your combat systems. But I suggest you up grade to at least a class twelve combat skin. Your current modle only scans as a class two, whick is unsuited for this kind of work.

# 2 . (the human the MC finds in the Library) Aah. The other Reclaimer, his combat skin proved even less suitable than yours.

Is this a test Reclaimer? .... I found him wondering through a structure on the other side of the ring, and brought him to the same point where you started.

these are both form the Halo the Flood Book i might add. Now getting the MC confussed with something else ok could happen even if Spark knew he was wearing armour, but a regular soldier thats a little harder to just mix up, plus spart does identify the Covie's as The Other Species. I guess even After 101 217 years he's still not totally insain.
ok now i said earlier that there was something else, it has to do with the flood. When KEys gets infected the Flood form is Intent on finding out information about Earth and not really to much else, i Find this just a bit strang since In the game he becomes part of that Gaint ass Flood thing the the Covie ship, just my opinion but that thing was navigating it was after all int he control room looking over the controles.

And heres the kicker.

Quote #7-"Last time you asked me if it were my choice would I do it. Having had
considerable to time to ponder your query my answer has not changed. There is
no choice. We must activate the ring."

when did the MC ever ask this, hes talking about the other time the ring was activated. Isnt it possible that if the ring can whip out all life in the galaxy the forrunners died last time it was doen? if so and we are some kind of genetic off spring of the forrunners it would explain why the Covie prophets want us dead, after all as Sheila has pointed out in the other post made on this, If otehr races other than the Prophets found out they wouldnt want to continue on with a religion and believe that would eventually lead to them dieing out.

any ways thats my two cents ont he subject sorry its not to involved with the Covenant Hierarchy but i had to make it.

this is refering to a post a couple pages back about the last secene in the "first strike" with a possible military cue with brutes and prophets planning something behind the elites back.

I read what u said and some things dont add up. why? i mean what could the prophets be planing that he didnt want to elites to know? What proof is their just becuase they left the room their planing something behind their back. and another thing u said that if their was a rebellion with the elites, the would be wiped out and the brutes would take there place. yeah it works... in theroy. think about it the covenant wasteing time and engergy to try and wipe out one of their strongest allies (alot of the covenants officers and high command is made of elites. why not keep them and the brutes. that means more to fight humans right?

secondly i dont think a covenant civil war will play out in halo 2 ( i hope not). it wouldnt make for a very good story line. But i do have another theroy, since the covenant is on a rampage cleasing the universe they might be fighting other races then the humans. im thinking a possible human-w/e allance.

p.s
"soon the great journey shall begin, and let nothing in this universe impede our progress
^^ that means let nothing stand in the way of the covenants comquest not that they are planing anything...

Does any one find it funny that in the Book the Prophet of truth sais to reward and then kill the polots that found the peices of that crystal thing, And why is it that the big Brute guy is the one talking to the prophet in privet, the Elites in the room prior to that seemed surprised that the brute was there to begin with. Just a guess but the big twist in Halo 2 is going to have something to do with those 3 peices of Crystal the Covie's found, you know the one the MC and the others found in Reach.

I think it is interesting that the Elites “coexist with the Prophets uneasily.” It would be great if they turned on the Prophets and started a Covenant civil war. Whose side would the other races go to, would they follow their military or religious leaders?
Well I think the Brutes would stay with the Prophets, since in First Strike the Brute at the end seemed very... obedient might be the right word. The Elites do seem to listen well to the Prophets but inside they have a dislike for some of their decisions. If there were a civil war, the Elites would lead the rebelion, the Jackals would most likely follow them, the Grunts probably wouldn't give a -blam!- and run away, the Brutes would fight for the Prophets, the Engineers would probably split and go with whoever they wanted, and the Hunters... well they would probably just kill everyone and go home.

I think maybe that it is their custom that if they lose a battle, they have to die.(like the samurai) That would explain why elites always fight to the death.

Ok ok. When cortana took over that covie ship she saw that they werent using the plasma in the most effective way. So basicaly they've stolen the technology and only know how to use the bare minimum of it. So they only know how to copy but not innovate. So if the elites did steal our technology we could just come up with something better to beat them and we would end up kicking their asses. Unless they stole something else but i think the engineers do all the reverse engineering. So the elites would only be able to take some of our crap but not make more of it.

First off you got the prophet and the engineer all wrong. In the third halo book "First Strike", the engineer was small and yellow and had plenty of tenticles on it. The prophet does not fit any one of those categories. Understand?
Hunters are not known for tactical brilliance. They are just as stupid as the jackels. Trust me and read the halo books, you would know alot. I am sure that in Halo 2 every covenant alien is going to be much smarter.
The Brutes are known for tactical brilliance. They were at the edge of killing Master Chief at the space station. The Brute grabbed Cheif's neck with one hand and lifted him up 2 feet in the air. Also the Master Chief unloaded an entire clip from his new assult rifle into the Brute's stomach and the Brute still had a firm grip on the Chief's neck. Basically in the "First Strike" the Brute didn't even flinch. He sqeezed harder around Master Chief's neck. The Chief was blacking out at the time and then he remembered what Corporal Mendoza taught him in the Spartan Program how to get out of that situation. I forgot after would he did. I think Master Chief grabbed the Brute from behind after he took him down. Put the Brute in a headlock and snapped his neck.
Anyways, do not play Halo 2 on easy when you get it. If you do you are a -blam!-. By now you should have already mastered Halo 1 on legendary. Normal should be easy enough for you by yourself. I am going to my friends house on Nov. 9, of course skipping school, and we are playing Halo 2 on multiplay by ourselves to get adjusted by the new weaponry and then play co-op on heroic.
I agree Shai Hulud that the jackels are all -blam!- up on cot(army terms cot = -blam!-).
For religion, the Covenant are based on prophets, which in my opinion are like prophets, they base their religion on mostly star constelations found in the mines of planet Reach. That's how the Covenant found Earth except they call Earth, Sol. The Covenant took over planet Reach and found the mine with all the star constelations and the crystal called "The Light", which is created a hole in slipstream space or whatever.
Gameplay is going to be unthinkable. The storyline is going to be incredible. The Covenant harder to beat because like humans they learn from their mistakes. The weapons are f***ing awesome. The multiplayer will be fiercely intense plus stats will be available including how many shots you fired, hit percentage, kills, deaths, weapons used, weapon accuracy, accuracy overall, etc. Customizing your own armor with different colors will be awesome.
I better stop writing. I probably mispelled some words going to fast typing.
All I can say is have a great time playing Halo 2 on November 9.
I think November 9 should be a national holiday or something. I am skipping school to pick it up and play it with my friend which is also skipping school.

spartan 592 said that the covies called earth sol. They weren't talking about earth they were talking about the sun. And that's how you talk about solar systems by naming the star, not one of the planets. they were going to make a jump to our solar system.

cortana found a whole lot of technology on halo and in the ascendent justice. Maybe they start making plasma weapeans. maybe they make weapons like on the ship where cortana changed how they worked. Now that i think of it you will probably be able to replace/recharge the power cores on the plasma weapons.

That demo wasnt how the actual gameplay is going to be.
The demo was played on some kind of god mode. and in the book mc unloads clips of BR ammo into a brute and he keeps on charging.

You talk about the Brute like he is God-like. The Brute should be tough, the Brute should be resiliant, the Brute should have some manner of tactical brilliance, but not astoundingly difficult like you seem to be implying.

We can gather from the E3 demonstration that the Brute does have at least a little it of tactical thinking going on in his head when he boards the Hog and slaughters her crew (sans Chief of course), but just like all the other enemies, they're only tough if you don't know how to fight them. When I first played halo I renounced using plasma weeapons and then when I got to the higher difficulties, the Elites pwned me. Practice makes perfect, don't be scared of the Brute. I'm more scared of whatever this new race is supposed to be. I fear what I don't understand! GAAAW!!!

They'd find a way how to. Anyways you'd probably just be able to hit E or X depending on your system.

I think that the grunts wood leave
because there the lowest and most disrespected race in the covenant and they'd get tired of getting pushed around,so they'd join our side thinking they'd find more respect(if the covies did split, wich i too believe would suck)
