I think DarkNecross DEFINETLEY held down the SHIFT key for all that, probably cuz he's too close-minded to hit the damn CAPS LOCK.

I thought that they just put in a weakened versions of the Brute just to show people what it looked like for e3 last year.

i also thought it was just a weaker version for the public. it would have crewed up the whole E3 if MC got his ass kicked by a brute.

I feel that way to, i mean three regular shots should not take out a brute, which are supposed to be comparable, if not better than elites. i guess we will just have to wait and see

The brute we saw in the E3 video was no where near a finished version. I heard somewhere that they just gave it grunt AI because the brutes AI wasn't finished yet, which would explain why it was so easy to kill. If you have ever read the books (FS in particular), you would know that the Brutes are incredibly strong, able to rip a hunter to pieces. And I think that the Prophets are getting ready to do something very important. At the end of FS, the prophet reffered to the loss of the crystal found on reach, and said that soon, these trinkets would mean notihng(or something along those lines, i don't have the book with me) Considering that the Prophets main role in life is to find and discover Forerunner technology, I find it odd that he would say that. I'm sure the Prophets have some kind of hidden motive, and that they are almost to reveal that motive.

WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT !!!!
CORTANA IS TALKING ABOUT MASTER CHIEF WHEN SHE SAYS REINFORCEMENTS ARE COMING!! 2 IF THE REINFORCEMENTS ARE ELITES OR PROPHETS, IT WOULD RUING THE GAMES! WHY WOULD YOU BE HELPED BY THE ELITES THAT WERE SENT TO DESTROY EARTH!! THE PROPHETS WOULDN'T BE FIGHTING YOU!! YES I CANT TURN CAPS OFF!! THE FORERUNNER HAVE BEEN EXTINCT FOR HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF YEARS!!!!! THEY WOULDN'T BE FIGHTING!!! NAME ONE INSTANCE WHERE IN FACT THE FORERUNNER WERE DOCUMENTED TO ACTUALLY FIGHT BY THEMSELVES!! THEY ARE SO ADVANCED THEY WOULD MAKE MACHINES THAT WOULD BE SUPER SOLDIERS, BETTER THAN THE SPARTANS!! YOU INSIGNIFICANT, IGNORANT, RETARDED -BLAMDY BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM DY BLAM X100000000000000000000000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-

Why the hell did you just say that? You try to flame someone for posting something that was based on little, and in doing so, you make yourself look like the insignificant, ingnorant retard. How mature. Don't ever do stupid things like that again. And if you do, then don't use caps lock, and don't insult. Point out why they are wrong, don't point out how stupid you are. Grow up.

Elites aren't our backup because in the trailer there are like 9 with Plasma Sword against Master Chief, Master Chief is the backup. 1 Elites could probably take out 10 Brutes, because Brutes take like 3 shots as seen in the trailer, they have no shields. If the Prophets did turn on the Elites than they would just be killing themselves so if anything, the Prophets would wait till after the war to turn on the Elites or maybe the end of it. The point is its Human against Covenant and no one is going to backstab at the beginning of the war. And Brutes are weak, lots of force, but they can't take a hit.

Yes, Elites probably won't be our backup, since we'd never fight with them, and, most likely, they'd never fight with us. 10 Brutes would mutilate an Elite very badly. In First Strike, one Brute comes too close to killing the Chief, and two Brutes kill Grace quite quickly. Brutes don't take 3 shots to kill, not even in the trailer. The first two that the Chief killed with the Battle Rifle were shot a few times, then killed due to the explosion of a street car. The third was shot in the head, which, with a Batlle Rifle, would put it down quite quickly. Another was killed with a melee combo (and since the Spartans are strong enough to flip a warthog, I don't find it very unlikely that the Chief could do this when the Brute wasn't physically blocking to defend himself). All this aside, don't trust the E3 Demo. The Brutes probably weren't as strong as they will be. Don't think of them as shieldless Elites, either, since they, like the other races, will be unique, and have they're own abilities (one such ability is being stronger than a Hunter, but less armored.

I think that, if any race defects, it will be the Hunters. Its shown that they don't even associate much with other races, and don't like them much, either. The Elites probably need the Prophets' intelligence too much to rebel, and the Grunts are too obediant.

As Barron and I said before, if one race was taken out of the picture, the Covenant Empire would probably crumble.... It looks very fragile.

The E3 demo looks like it was on easy or normal that is why the brutes died so easy. (three shots)

Based on the Covenant bestiary, if there was to be a split in the Covenant it would be Elites+Hunters against Prophets+Brutes+Engineers. Judging from how the Jackals and Grunts dislike each other, they would not remain on the same side. But, it is unclear what side the Grunts or Jackals would choose. Just making a wild guess I'd say the Grunts would join the Elites and Hunters, and the Jackals would join the other side.

Maybe because of the advantage of elite's shields an elite could defeat 1 brute in a firefight but put an elite without a shield and a brute in hand to hand combat and the elite would start getting alot more bone joints than he should have. if you read the books you would know that the brute would proably laugh at a blue elites face and than tear him to pieces, and probably eat him too.

anyways, at the end of first strike the great prophet of truth says to a brute called tartarus (after telling the 300 battle hardened protector elites to leave his room) this:

"soon the great journey shall begin, and let nothing in this universe impede our progress"

they are planning something big, very big and they are planning it behind elite's backs.

the prophet's really don't care about the elite's as the this great prophet of truth tells the brute to execute all the failures who survived the battle with master chief. i'm not talking about halo, it's some other place mc and mates destroy in the book.

I Think at first everyone will still be friends, hand in hand... but the elites and possibly the hunters with them will somehow find out about the plan - possibly even from the master chief himself! You know, one of the missions you just leave a little clue behind for the elites to find, proposing a cease-fire and giving them the info... I see Cortana as the one finding that one out, she's usually pretty clever with things like that - maybe she even found that info on Halo itself!

sorry but brutes arent weak if you watch the trailer again youll see that they have no energy shiled, they do however, have armor. they were only weak because of the cars that master chief exploded nearby. i personally think that bungie wouldnt have part of the covenant turn against the rest.

  • 05.01.2004 3:58 PM PDT

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

They're not planning anything behind the Elites' backs, I don't think. Sure, you could be right, but I think by "our progress" the Prophet meant the Covenant as a whole. The Elites probably know about it, too... I think the Prophet was just mumbling to himself.

And I don't think the Prophets would get rid of the Elites... Not yet, anyway. They need the Elites' military skill and brilliance. And also, the Prophet probably just ordered the executions of the survivors of that battle (which were more than just Elites) to set an example. Such a failure shouldn't happen again... (well, it should, since the Covenant are bastards, but the Covenant don't want it to happen again).

But, you could be right, considering that the Brutes are just recently being used in battle.

And can we please start using fairly decent grammar?

I think the grammar is as bad as it is in most forums, and i think you're going to have to live with L337 Speak. Its a bastard i know but thats life.

Maybe peace will be somehow managed near the end of the game because the covenant give up. Then, the elites, enraged by the prophets' weakness go ape, and rise up the masses. Remember, you still might have to do your original mission in halo: capture the prophet and negotiate peace.

Well from what I've noticed I highly doubt the Covenant will tear themselves apart or back stab each other. Although the Elites and Prophets live side by side uneasilly they most likely won't seperate. They all seem way too religous and too smart for that kind of stupid move. Same goes for the rest of the Covenant. Except in some cases it is not a matter of too smart, but rather too ignorant to even consider it.

If anything I see the Covenant getting stronger in Halo 2 seeing as we humans are on the verge of extinction. (Yes people we are losing the war, last i remember we have only won 5 decisive space battles and lost hundreds of ground battles) Plus there is that new race of Covenant that Bungie has been taunting us with and given practically zero info about. This new race may actually be the force that makes the Covenant stronger and the seemingly brittle barriers between races to become solid and unbreakable. Think on that one.

Oh well. I'm not going to think too hard into it myself. It's bad enough there is that Enkidu stuff out there and other updates that Bungie has been throwing at us in bread crumb sized pieces....that we gladly snatch out of the air and savor for all they are worth, and then some.

So now it's time to sit back and wait for Halo 2.....like I have been since November 16, 2001.

Jeez, what's with u people? In the covie besitary made by bungie, it says that the hunters can hardly tolerate the other covies! What if something happens that breaks the tolerance the hunters have for the other races? That would be the thing that would start a rebellion. The hunters helping the marines and mc? That would make the game so much more fun! The hunters are really just like huge swat team units that take out many with very few numbers, so the covie system wouldn't fall apart with the abandonment of the hunters, unlike the other covie species. Plus it might make all the covie stick closer together so that they won't get wiped out by hunters, therefore creating the need for the better teamwork they have in halo 2 than in halo 1.

  • 05.01.2004 7:24 PM PDT

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Just like we have racists amongst our race....

But no Covenant species will fight beside us, I don't think. They hate us all too much. Even the Grunts don't like us (they don't like the way we smell, as implied in The Flood). It won't happen....

Nor would we fight beside any of them. Look what they've done! They've butchered billions, possibly trillions (depending on how big our empire actually was)! No way. Settle for an uneasy peace, maybe, but never for a very, very long time would we fight with them. If Bungie made this happen, I'd be a little upset.

Personally, I'd like to see one side lose... not some peace that will last only as long as an ODST can keep his finger off the trigger of his gun. If we settled for an uneasy peace rather than extinction, thats understandable,... but I really want to see one side lose (preferably Covenant). A peace would leave too much of a "?" at the end of the series (like in Matrix: Revolutions).

And if it does end in a peace treaty, then I want to still see some bitter distaste between the two forces (for a while... after that I'd like to see us become friends, but I know that it wouldn't happen for a very long time). Not like in the Matrix where everyone practically throws down their weapons and says, "Oh, I don't care what you've done! Lets all just be one big, happy family!" .....Bah!

quite true, in the matrix its like, what the hell??? he did all that for peace????

but, anyway, i think a peace treaty would ruin H2, also, i hate to admit it, but i kinda think MC will die in the final cutscene/ending thing, but if they did that they better make it good, they better not have some grunt come behind him and just load MC w/ needlers, that would suck!
