Its obvious that the remaining spartans should be sent in to stealthly assassinate the covenant prophets, being that with them gone they have no tatical intelligence or leadership. After that happens the covenant races will turn on eachother and whipe most of eachother out.

Assainate? No, but rather, capture. Kill a Prophet and we are all screwed even more. Capture one and humanity has a chance of peace and survival. Remember we are on the verge of extinction in Halo...which makes fighting oh so great.

I don't really know how to reply to the topic as a whole so I just replied to the post right before this one...

1) To all you people that said Brutes were weak...go to an insane asylum now. The people that told about the Brutes and how they really are (with their strength, agility and wits) in battle are still looking over something. Even in the E3 video of Halo 2 the Brutes looked pretty tough. Did you not see that when Master Chief did the melee combonation he tapped the Brute twice in the chest before he moved on? Also, when he kicked that one out of the Ghost it landed on his feet and immediately started shooting.

2) I don't know if I just don't think the Covenant will turn on each other or if I just really don't want them to. I mean, I think it would suck so bad to be fighting less oponants...I had already hated Halo: CE for lack of variety in the enemy.

3) Now you guys get to make fun of me yay! But, I was trying to picture a table with two units from each race cricled around discussing war. I think it was the Prophets idea to declare war and they were consulting and deciding with the other races. I think that Elites joined right up because they are almost good only for physical activity in hurting things...and they like it. Grunts, to me, joined up because they were scared to say no which might of pushed some buttons of more sophisticated races and angered them enough to hurt the Grunts. Jackals might of argued a bit but ended up being persuaded that war was the right descision and felt the need to "defend" their religion. Brutes, I think, are mercenaires...hired because of the obvious...savage like fighters who will rip apart anything that stand in their way...they are loyal because they are paid to be. I also think that Brutes make their own weapons because they are like the Covenant, but not nescasarily (spelling?) one of them. Which means they have other kinds of technology...like all mercenaries in video games. Hunters share the same enthusiasm as Elites most likely...they are there for military reasons...so they must be bored with nobody to fight.

And finally 4) I was just wondering if any of you fine gentlemen (or women) could list the order of the Halo books...I recently started to get interested in reading them and I wouldnt want to start on the last one then feel like an idiot at the end.

I agree it would suck if the covenant command structure broke down and started warring with eachother. Also i agree that brutes are not weak i mean for all u know the brute could have already taken damage before the cheif went in fist and gun swinging.

the info filled in almost all the gaps...almost. I just can't wait to play it, to state the obvious. And all the plasma stuff looks so much better now. Halo has changed the way I think. Forever.

nah.... the prophets are the religious and political leaders, its the elites which are the tactical masterminds, killing prophets would just whip them into a frenzy of religious wrath, making them fight harder. id say send the remaining spartans to take out high-ranking elites. or who knows, if the prophets were gone, they may turn on each other for lack of spiritual leadership. who knows? i dont.

Something to think about is why the Covenant have such a strong military to begin with. They have warships by the thousands, and within these there are smaller fighting craft, and thousands of troops. What for? It seems a bit extreme for expeditions searching for Forerunner relics. And they have prisons aboard their ships as well. For who? The Covenant military super power couldn't have been created just to fight humans. The Covenant are a group of cooperating species, which implies that the Covenant war machines weren't used to enslave the client races. So why are they so over-prepared for war, what is it good for?

excellent point... we know that they dont take human prisoners, not often at any rate, and they are soon executed... could the covenant goverment be less united then we think? the whole covenant system, from weaponry (swords and shields), to language, to using a caste system; all this seems rather mideval no? anyways, yeah, on a semi-related note, what if the covenant government is less united than it appears, and the prophet of truth only ordered the war on humanity to unite the covenant; what if the covenant have a feudalistic governmant, it would fit them well, methinks. the entire covenant empire could have been small, petty kingdoms, with different elites struggling to gain power, while the prophets function as the catholic church did during the middle ages, with the prophet of truth as the pope. anyways yeah, what im saying is that without a crusade to fight and an enemy against which to unite, the covenant may resort to fighting with one another, which is why the covenant have prisons on their ships. also the elites have large pavillions, which to me is reminiscent of a large gathering of knights when their lord called them in to serve... so...uh...yeah... i know this is reall far out there, but i had fun thinking of it.

Well, here is something to chew on.

Something I have always wondered about is for how long have the Covenant have had access to slipspace travel. By what we can tell from the books we humans have had slipspace capabilities for a couple of centuries and have made only so many ships. The Covenant however, have a lot more ships than we do and appear to have explored more sections of the Galaxy than we have. The reason I believe that the Cov have explored a lot more of the galaxy than we have is because whoever started searching for the Forerunner tech (Prophets, most likely), have already found several different sentient species and coalesced them into one faction. And so I thought that to do that they probably have had a lot of time to explore. In the last chapter of the book First Strike there is a chapter heading that states the time and location that the chapter begins at. In this chapter it says 'ninth age of reclamation'. Im not so sure what this means or how long an age for the Covenant is but this does suggest theyve been space faring for a long time.

And as to the Covenant having so many ships all I have to do is ask you this: If you were in an age of dangerous exploration of uncharted territories and your empire was constantly expanding, would you just stop making adequate defenses just because right now at this very moment, you are not at war?

Dont flame me.

i dont know if this has been stated but it seems people have gotten the hunter slightly wrong

"Hunters are dismissive and contemptuous of their foes, and in fact, they will only associate with Elites, recognizing and respecting perhaps a similar warrior mentality."

its also still posible that the forerunners are still alive and that we just havn't found any.

I think everyone needs a reality check when they think the covenant are gonna split up and cause a civil war. They are on the brink of killing off the humans for good. Why would they split NOW of all times. If they would ever split, it would be after the war with the humans. They not gonna be stupid and throw away there chance of victory, dispute how much the races may dislike each other.

i agreee with this state ment but my
thought is how come the covenant haveent designed many things there self
most of their thing are backwards engineered i.e plasma, ftl travel and their A.I arre just pitful whereas we the human race have made all on our own, now what i wonder is what would it be like if the covenet didnt find ne thing to do with forerunners i.e forerunner footsteps on the grunt home world if so would the covenant be on the same level of technology i believe this would give us a new insight into what the covenant caste system would of been like 1000 yrs ago or there about.

What makes everyone think its going to be a whole race that defects? surely it would be elements from one or more races? why would all the elites simultaneously agree? they'd definately be a divide, just like in any civil war.

Plus, it'd be cool to see an elite v.s elite sword battle.

I highly doubt that Elites, of all races, would defect from the Covenant. It seems that the relation between each species is more of a required one, rather that 'Let's hold hands and skip together'. However, once we bring the battle to the Covies, I would not be suprised to see the Grunts turn tail and run. The Covies would be too consumed trying to fight us anyway than to administer proper punishment to the Grunts. They might even ally with US, although I sincerely do not want to be fighting with a 4-foot gnome next to me yelling 'WEEEEEEEEEEE!' all day.

I agree with what spanky said. I think that there is no way that a covenant species would turn on each other on a large enough scale to affect the game. Some people have mentioned that this would save Earth because the covenant are busy having a civil war but i think that the flood will cause the distratcion, giving Earth and the spartans a chance to take the initative and severly scupper the covenant.

Hmmm, Interesting. I have a theory. What if the Prophets wanted not only to beat us, but assimilate us into their hierarchy. It would strengthen their position over Elites and give them another race to use for military work if the Elite caste rebells. Just a thought.
