Ethics? The warrior's purpose is to war and prevail. I, for one, will not fight alongside Covenant--if Bungie were to entertain that folly, I would simply kill all of my newfound "allies". I'm not kidding. All of them--I need MORE targets. And if the Marine AI would detect this 'treason' (as they did in Halo CE) and turn on me, I'd smoke them, too. Don't worry, though, Bungie won't make this mistake--they're geniuses! PLEASE, BUNGIE--make Halo 2 much, much harder than Halo CE, alot of us out here are Legendary + LAN-hardened veterans. I coast through Legendary like I'm on autopilot, and it's been that way for a year and a half. Perhaps a level or two beyond Legendary, to be unlocked when Legendary is completed? Folks, I'm but one lonely voice out here--maybe y'all could circulate the idea of harder-than-Legendary difficulty levels to Bungie, so that perhaps in developing Halo2 they could accomodate us legions of experts from Halo CE. Really, there's gonna be a huge transfer of skills we gained in Halo CE to Halo 2, and it might seriously hamper that wonderful "new" feeling we had the first time we played Halo. Get the word out to Bungie!

I don't really see why you're all so surprised if humans were to take 'distasteful' allies. In truth, humans have always been pragmatic with their allies, forgetting old enemies for the sake of 'the greater good'. The entente cordiale, the alliance with soviet russia ww2 era and even the modern allegiance with Libya; all examples of humans turning tail when it suits them. Or rather, just beacuse you wouldn't want to ally with the covies, doesn't necessarily mean our political leadership wouldn't.

Also, in the xbox.com documentary the story of Halo 2 was described as a 'galactic romp'; if that is so, then the defence of earth won't predomiante the game, and the only only way I can see this happening is some distraction like a covie civil war...

The difference with this hypothetical "alliance" is that it would be inter-species. Humans form alliances with other humans, but other "races" (whatever that really means), cultures, civilizations are stilll of the same specie. Killing Covies is like killing a vicious dog that attacks you--I wouldn't hesitate. Only these 'dogs' are hateful, methodically murderous, sentient beings. I feel the same way about these types of aliens as I do about zombies--I'll kill them mercilessly once their malevolent intent is manifest.

but that's exactly what the Covenant is, an alliance of different species. However, they don't seem interested in an alliance with the humans, they seem to want them obliterated. I'd be very surprised if there is an alliance in halo2 without another big threat (more flood) in the galaxy.

True but, 'progressive' (note: cynicism) thought is that it is wrong to commit specism - note the global decline of animal testing and rise of vegetarianism... in 500 years time, such distinctions between species may not be so clear... anyway, i'm wandering off into metaphyiscal bull-blam!- now, so I shall say but this, short of intra-covie strife, I can't really see what could save Earth...

you dont make an alliance with your opponent... cuz then the whole meaning of the war is skewed from what it was meant to be... and that is the Covenant fighting the HUMANS for a religious reason... if they made an alliance... what would they be fighting for? the war would be meaningless... it would only be to kill a species... every war has more depth in meaning than that...

personaly, I'd like to se a treaty with the humans and hunters at the very end of H2, that way we're all that much happier cuz we have another three year wait for H3(or something like that)
Imagine wiping out the entire covenent, and then making a trsaty, sick!

In the primer it also said that the covies were impatient with the hunters cus they still practiced their old religion etc. so maybe the prophets will declare a war on them next pavin the way for a human-hunter alliiance.(cool)
Goin back to engineers and their fascination with the forerunners perhaps they were created by the forerunner to look after their machinary and perform menial tasks. This cud also explain y they only talk to prophets as well because i read somewhere that the prophetshomeworld had once had forerunner living on it.

One more thing to keep in mind: humans only have one more important location left (that I know of)—Earth. Watching both of the Halo 2 trailers, I get the distinct impression that all human forces are fighting for their lives on and above Earth. We don't really know how large the Covenant is in terms of its military capacity or its galactic reach. The forces targeting Earth could be their entire remaining force (doubt it) or just some fraction of it.
The point is that it's unlikely that the humans of the Haloverse will be able to wage all out war against the Covenant indefinitely, let alone end the war on their terms. Something very drastic needs to happen—whether it comes in the form of an alliance or another, as of yet unimagined opportunity—for our favorite bipeds to carry on. Being that this war (from the human perspective) is one of survival I think they would take any favorable advantage they could, no matter how abhorrent it may seem to some of us gamers.
By the way, to those who wouldn't fight alonside the Covenant—I'm very impressed that the Bungie crew have stimulated such enthusiasm in you. It's a testament to the continiued quality of Bungie's abilities.

I dont think anyone will defect, I think (just speculation) that the humans will use a differant halo to distract the cov. while sending in MC the cap ture a prophet on their homeworld.

i agree with the fact that the humans cannot win this war alone. lately ive been thinking...why would the covenant risk anything, fight to the death to destroy earth and her colonies? i think that the covenant more or less want to hide the fact that they are at war with another alien race and they believe that if we were to discover the other alien race we would team up with them and begin to take down the covenant. now that would lead me to something else...

after that war is over, the humans will probably get into another fight with this other alien race and start battling it out with them, hence allowing for bungie to keep making these games.

Where did all this talk of Covenant races defecting, or switching sides come form like geez. There is no way that a race belonging to the Covenant would fight along side humans, or start a Covenant civil war. Sure in the primer it said things that made the relationship seem fragile, but things arent always what they seem. I think that the Covenant started a war with the humans for one simple reason: boredom. I think that races were threatening to leave the Covenant, so the Covenant leadership basically put potential races to start a war against in a line up and picked us, and the whole "affront to the gods" is just the leaderships way of justifying it. Think about it, if you were a Covenant race, and you were just sitting their, and you had warrior withdrawal simptoms what would you do? Petition to start a war!

Flood + Covenant Homeworld = Total Chaos

:-D

I'd probably fight alongside the Covenant during Halo 2, but only if it were a temporary thing. (You know, something like "The Forerunners are back and are going to activate the Halos, killing everyone; let's stop them before we beat each other up.")

Why are the covies invading earth. In the books it ses that they only ever invaded 2 planets, reach and sigma octanus and that was to get forerunner artefacts ( the rocks that show the way to halo and the crystal thingy) so unless the covenant just want to rub it in that theyve reached our homeworld an r about to make us extinct then perhaps there are some forerunner artefacts on earth. Usually they just glass a planet from orbit.
And there are other human colonies just most of em in our solar system

Yeah, maybe... but MC won't go to their homeworld, it isn't very likely. In FS at the end you can read how the covies destroy everything bigger than a few centimeters (Or something) should it fail to indentify itself.

Maybe MC will take over another flagship? Who knows...

no, the only two planets we KNOW they invaded a Sigma Octanus IV or V, cant remember, and Reach. Reach didnt have an artefacts on it but it did have the location of earth and crap. The Covenant either want to make sure we completely annihalated or find out if there are any other Colonies that they havent discovered.

Reach did have an artefact, it was that crystal that changed slipspace but on e of the main reasons to invade was probably to take out the generators
An i agree, ignore story-just KILL!KILL!KILL!!!!!!!!!!!!

well.......maybe not ignore, ahem.

I highly doubt that the humans would get into a fight with another species, it would ruin the storyline, and the quality of the game would deminish, i know all of us hard core halo fans never wants these games to stop coming, but we do have to accept it, the odds of them coming out with a halo 3 are very small. unless of coars they made a run off of it, like tomb raider, but as i said, the quality would diminish. but if they do come out with a halo 3, i will personaly apoloogise to you.

BlueReaper Signing Off

!!!VAK ZOOI!!! is a term frequently used in multiplayer.

Gamertag: BlueReaper

Im new to this , so im not sure how it works, but here goes,

Where the Brutes come in,

My gues is, there is a forerunner artefact on earth and us humans are in the covies way of gettin it.
So like the prophets the humans seem to be living on a forerunner planet, which is against their religion, cause the prophets claim to be ascendants to the forerunners.( So if another race is living on a forerunner planet what makes the prophets unique.)

So if the other covenant would get wind of this, woul'n't their entire religion crumble?
After all what binds these Species is their belief in the forerunner "gods" and that the prophets are their ascendants.
As the prophets would suspect this to hapen they dont tell this to the other species and just tell them to annihilate the humans. Since they are all so eager to fight they wouldn't hesitate to do this.

Here's where the brutes come in as backup to protect the prophets when the elites and other species find out the prophets haven't been completely honest. The brutes dont seem to so bent on religion as the elites do. And they would be the prophets new allies.

I think the brutes are brought in specifficaly to defend the prophets from any threats from inside or outside the covenant. And that there is indeed a chance the covenant heirarchy will crumble, when it's discoverd the prophets aren't who they claim to be.
