Everyone, you are reading too deeply in to this whole thing, there is one purpose for both halo and halo2, TOO KILL COVIE BASTARDS!!!!

yes there is a plot and a good one at that but this is about shootin stuff not the reason why we are shootin stuff. its like watching the matrix and instead of thinking "wow neo is a badass" your thinkin "man i bet that smith had a reely bad home life when he was a new robot straight from the factory, and ill bet that thats why he was recruited to be an agent".

as i said, pointless

Smith wasn't a robot. He was a program. Plus, if Halo really was exclusively about “shootin stuff” it would not have warranted three full-length novels.
I certainly agree that the point of the Halo series is to blow stuff up but having a sturdy story as a scaffolding for the mayhem makes the action that much more involving and gives some of us more incentive to stay up until some early hour.
Additionally, no one is forcing you to participate in this discussion. If you don't think that Halo's story is worthy of discussion and speculation, leave it to us crazies! :)

no, the only two planets we KNOW they invaded a Sigma Octanus IV or V, cant remember, and Reach. Reach didnt have an artefacts on it but it did have the location of earth and crap. The Covenant either want to make sure we completely annihalated or find out if there are any other Colonies that they havent discovered.

The Covenant invade planets often. Hell Fred-104 alone had over 100 ground campaigns with the Covenant. The planets that I remember them invading are, Draco 3, Sigma Octanus IV, Reach, Earth, and Jerico VII. Plus why not invade a planet?

You don't always need a pretty little artifact to go after. Send in Grunts and Jackals(which is what they did from 2525 till 2552 when everything else shows up) and have them kill humans up close and personnal. Gives them their warrior pride.

I've got a couple things to add so sorry if they've been said before, I didn't feel like reading 8 pages, so I read the first and the last. Anyhow, the flood do not get the Truth and Reconciliation if you have read Halo:The Flood it gets destroyed at the end when McKay(don't remember the name exactly)destroys the optivs cord to engine control and sends it spiralling down so the Flood don't leave Halo. I do see that the Brutes are not necessarily the religious guards but more of guards of critical components in being that they blocked the way to the generators in FS. Also at the end of first strike the High Profit has an army of elites guarding him not brutes, he does send the one on a mission, but that may have been a special case in that they are more single minded than elites. I don't think that the Covenant will have a civil war until we are dead seeing that they have a common enemy and I dont think that the elites are gonna get sentamental and beg us for forgiveness. There must be a forerunner artifact on earth or else they would just glass our planet rather than conquer it, or maybe they wish to assimilate us or our technology being that they repeatedly say in the books that "The Covenant are adaptive, not innovative". Just some food for thought and, as much as I love hunters, elites are may fav since I feel they think similarily to me. How many times on legendary have you been moving to flank a group of Covenant when you just hear a grunt and *SMACK!* you get flanked. They act like I do :)

But if you think about it, when the covenant found the flood on halo shouldn't their fondness for the forerunner have maybe died down a little. They saw the Ring as a weapon, instead it was a jail that hald an evil that was beyond their understanding.
Which leads to a reason for a revolt against the Higher classes by the grunts. They listened to the prophets and obeyed them due to religion. But now that they have seen the catastrophy that thier religion led them to, they could fight against their masters.
if they did revolt then they'd probably wait until the opposition was destroyed. ie the hunters killing the jackals ( as in first strike ) brutes and elites duking it out and the grunts would probably kill the jackals first. Since they always call the Grunts 'Gas Suckers'
Where as the engineers would just chill out and stare at a forerunner wall with circles on it.

that makes little sense but still, i dont think that there are any forerunner artefacts on earth and if there were we woulda realized it by now. the brutes are just another race. they look weaker than the elites however....

This is wrong. In First Strike they established that brutes could tear a hunter apart, and the one that attacked MC took so many bullets from the Spartan's battle rifles that this undoubtebly proves they are better than grunts. They are stronger, tougher, and have grenade launchers. The E3 demo was deceiving in those facts. They were only about as strong as grunts in the demo, but this is not true in First Strike.

Some of you have said the Covenant wouldn't split or join the humans because there is no point. And there isn't a point, from the perspective of a person playing a game. But look at the war, not from your point of view, but from the point of view of the characters in the story.

Humans can use any help they can against the Covenant. If the humans could generate a rift between the already unstable races of the Covenenat, that would help them greatly. As for joinging one of the sides, there's the old saying, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." From the point of view of the humans in the Halo story, becoming allies with some of the Covenant would be an effective way to win the war.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

yea... In the E3 Demo the brutes did not look at easy to kill as grunts to me. The reson that they were dying so easily (I think, I'm not too sure about it though. It's been awhile since I've seen the E3 Demo) is because while the elites have their energy sheilds to protect them, a headshot to a Brutes head would probably be a one-hit-kill. Also, in close combat their melee attack would probably be as strong (if not stronger) then a Hunters melee attack. Well that's my two cents worth.

I don't know much aout the books but in gamewise i feel pretty confident. Well confident enough to say this...
The hunters are powerfull and really really cool. I really don't think that they will join the humans, they respect fighters like Chief and the elites but they don't turn up often enough. It may be a nice set piece battle with 3 or 4 hunters against elites and grunts etc but i probably won't happen. The most likely alliance will be with the grunts. Well when i say alliance i mean HELP US MISTER CHIEF, but then again what about the race's home planets, any race that defects will risk the wrath of the the rest of the covenant.

You can't draw too many conclusions from the E3 2k3 Demo trailer, it was doctored so that MC couldn't die or receive damge. So the strength of the Brutes is yet to be scene, also the cast most likely to betray the covies are the Grunts.

yes fs is.

you guys need to look at this from a point of view that is not that of a human. also the covenant arent like humans, they think differently, they have different motivations, and their train of logic might be vastly different from our own.

the grunts are more like dogs than humans, a human wouldnt take the crap that the grunts get, but even an abused dog will come when his master calls. the grunts think more like dogs than humans, and im sure that similar is true for the rest of the races, not necicarily dogs but most definatly not like humans.

okay int eh E-3 demo the brutes jackels and everything esle were se t to the stregth of a grunt they were all made so they could be killed easily mand master chief was made so he couldin't die. Of courese everything is easy to kill in the demo what wouldd you think if the person playing the demo died. i mean come one lets use some common sense here

Here's the lowdown Brutes conatain much more mass and strength than an Elite and are just as agile. They may not have shields but their armor is bulked up because of that flaw. Elites may have more battle intelligience and tactics but Brutes are blood thirsty and feril making up for the weakness in thier heads. Plus in the FIrst Strike the Brutes give the SPARTANS a very hard time and even kill Grace in the process.

Brutes are not very intelligent but they are strong. They would probably be used as kamikaze offense. As for Elites, they are referred to as "Prophet Blessed", they captain their starships and protect the Prophets themselves. Anyway you slice it, Elites are more important, but probably not as effective overall at ground based combat.

-To those who believe that humanity would never ally with the Covenant for anything-

Look at it from the Halo-universe perspective- the humans are holed up on earth with few to no colonies left and even less of their navy or soldiers to fight the Covenant.- We simply can't keep up a war against them, we just won't win that way.

People have the wrong idea when they hear the word alliance because in a practical sense it should mean little more than basic neutrality between one or more Covenant species and humans. An alliance with the Covenant doesn't mean the Chief will be holding gunts' hands all the way, but it could mean that brutes, grunts or whatever just don't attack us. We wouldn't have to enter a single engagement together, just maintain neutrality while we both fought the remaining aggressive Covenant. Plus, instead of an alliance or entire race going neutral, there could be just a handful of individuals who defect to the Humans side (a revelation about Humans being Forerunner and their entire religious Dogma being a lie could help that out) and give them tactical information, weapons data etc. in exchange for safety.

You have to face it; unless some other race comes in and annihilates them, the human race cannot win the war against an un-fragmented Covenant force nomatter how many victories the Spartans might score.

actually, there WAS an artifact on reach. read first strike.

also (i think i said this on the covenant primer fourm as well) i think the hunters might be convinced to turn on the rest of the covies. maybe. according to the primer, theyre the least loyal to the prophets of the bunch. in first strike, the brutes arent just fanatics but are actually temple guards (read: loyal as all crap), elites and prophets are obvious, and jackals and grunts are pretty much happy with their lots. so, if anyones gonna turn, it'd be hunters.

I think it would be wayy cool if the hunters turned, but then again us (humans in 2552) look as if were about to get our asses handed to us> So why would they turn on the covanent when it looks so grim for the humans.

I think it would be cool if the hunters were part of the covanant only because the priests are holding the hunter "Queen" to make them serve, that would explain how they can just barely stand the other races, but they dont defect.

My theory of why the covenant are attacking Earth has to do with the Bible. The Forerunners(God) punished Earth by "flooding" the earth, wiping away any sign of life. Except this punishment wasn't just on Earth, it happened all over the universe. The Covenant is a group of Aliens banded together to wipe out all of Human kind to prevent the flood from coming back again.

and that just makes it all the easier to make an alliance with them... at least partially, y'know? give the dog a bone. give them their steak and they'll attack the intruders for you. but the problem would be finding out what Grunts would actually want...
