Ok, I caught the bug. I loaded and installed halo PC CE with no problems this morning, but for some reason receive the following message whenever I try to open it from the shortcut on my desktop:

A problem occurred initializing Direct 3D. Hardware acceleration maybe disabled please run DXDIAG

DirectDraw is enabled, as is Direct3D. I’ve run the tests for both and both passed with no problems.

AGP acceleration is “Not Available”. I do have an AGP card, as you can see from the system information listed…

I’ve downloaded a couple of maps and extracted them to the maps file in Halo PC CE, my halo PC disc is in the DVD drive and I can hear it run (useless info I’m sure, but better to get it out of the way). I even tried running Halo PC first and then running halo PC CE while PC was up. Nada.

The only problem I could find was in the system information “DX Setup Parameters: Not found”.

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem with halo CE and could share the solution.

Thanks.

Does your graphics card have updated drivers?

You need the 256MB-SP2 graphics card fix. I can't recall if it is on the forum anymore, but a quick google search I did turns up a lot of results.

Isn't that integrated into the 1.07 patch? Run the updater from the CE folder.

Chewy you GOOEY GREEN GENUIS! That did it! I knew it had to be something simple but I couldn’t figure out what.

*Shakes himself vigorously* Okay; back to normal (as normal as I get, anyhoo.)

So, from now on I should expect to always need to manually update Halo CE? Or is this just a one time glitch on my or my PCs part? Either way, I just played two games of CE and…definitely different. Couldn’t get into any of the new maps (server refusal or ping issues…dunno. I’ll keep trying and you guys keep at it.

THANK FER ALL THE HELP!

You shouldn't have any problems if theres another patch.

HCE auto-updated for me when the 1.07 patch dropped - I'm not really sure what happened there, Minus Sign, but it definitely sounded like SLD hit it.

P.S. It may not apply to you, but if you run the DS on either HPC or HCE, you'll need to patch that yourself.
