You've got to think crazy, of course, because you only get innovation by refining insanity. - Jason Jones

Coop in halo was fun, no doubt about that. But the only thing i didn't really like was the fact that if you were advancing farther in the level than your partner he was spawned to you, or the other way around. This time, do you guys think that there should not be any of that, and just let free roam occur. I think this would be an ok idea. Opinions

Its for performance issues.
Halo loads levels in sections, it would be impossible for you to be in one, and your partner in the other.

At least, thats what Im assuming happens.

I dont know either, i like/dislike the way it is in halo, b/c if your bud is screwing around he could keep taking you all the way back to the last checkpoint b/c hes an ass.

yeah, and if the one lagging behind is killed, what spawn checkpoint does he begin at again? the last one he reached, or the last one the leading player reached?

It has to be the same way, because portions of the levels are loaded as you play through them.

I've found a few places in the game where I can skip past the loading point without it actually loading (by going through walls, etc.), and there's nothing really there.

The Master Chief emerged from his code. After seeing his dynamically lit realtime shadow, he went back for 9 more months of development.

The covenant will be able to go anywhere in a level, why not the actual players.

I am saying the AI is going to be able cross loading zones unlike in Halo. That means the Xbox is going to keep track of where all the AIs are. The only thing that would limit split screen would be loading the actual geometry of the loading zones. In this respect system link would work better because each xbox would only have to render one loading zone.

Yea system link could work.
But the thing you're saying about Covenant/enemies doesn't work, you see, they're not on your XBOX as another player running around doing completely unprogrammed things... lol

Thats not how it works.

Once you enter a new "zone", all the AI in the path behind you are despawned (or dissapear) and the AI infront of you are spawned (or created). The CPU saves the location, and number of the AI that were in the previous zone incase you should travel back. IN short, there are never AI in other zones besides yours.

In Halo 1 yes, but in Halo 2 the Covenant will leave their areas to bring back reinforcements. Now either these reinforcements are completely new meaning and endless supply of Covenant or they are coming from other areas. Techinically they may not exist, but they can be broght over to your area and then exist.

For that to work, Im thinking that the Covenant fall back to an area in the level (inside your current "zone"). Once they reach the area, theres a spawn point where a certain number (or unlimited number ,depending on how much Bungie wants us to suffer) of Covenant and head back to the point of contact.
