There aren't enough fanfics around to even consider a Forum for them. When they come along they are posted in the appropriate Forums anyway, so people see them.

My friend, you would not tell with ſuch high zeſt

Make a fanfic dedicated chapter. It's easier, and you get creative control. Put it in your sig and eventually people will join and it's fame will grow.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

LOL the New Mombasa forum is flooded by fan-fics. You cant say there are not enough. A new one pops up every day and each one get a fanbase. Creating a forum would keep things simple and eassy for fan-fic readers and New Mombasa regulars.

I am thinking that the fan-fics might benefit from a recent experiment that concluded in The Flood.

Stay tuned and we'll see what happens.

Supposing what Eagles say is correct, I think you're onto something with this. A thread pertaining to all fanfics would be ideal for the Forums with large quantities of fan fiction; I'm not sure what would be done with the Forums where it is less common, though I suggest that there could be a thread for New Mombasa which covers all Halo 2 and Halo fanfics from each of the Halo/2 Forums, and one in The Flood linking to fanfics from itself and The Underground.

Isn't there a group called the fan-fics?

Hmm, similar. I just performed a Group search and located a largish Group; I think that would be an ideal place for all fanfic.

Another index for Fan Fics

  • 08.12.2005 7:17 AM PDT

I believe we have discussed a fan fic forum in the past in HFCS, but we have a large number of forums already, and an already insurmountable number of off topic posts floating around bungie.net. That said, a niche forum for something like fan fics might not be the most practical solution.

I suggest using chapters to discuss and post fan fics, although New Mombasa works as well.

Hey everyone, Recon Number 54 just created a pinned Fanfic Thread in New Mombasa, you can check it out right here.

Recon, could you edit that first post giving instructions to posters about how to link directly to a post within the thread?

E.g,

How to link directly to your Fan Fic:

To link directly to your Fan Fic (for signatures and such), take the thread URL (http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=), and add your post's unique number to it.

To find your post's unique number, Edit your post containing the Fan Fic. In the address bar, you will see a 7 digit number. That number is unique to your post. Copy it, and it to the thread URL.

For example;
http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=
would become
http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=4382313.

I'm just thinking it would help aspiring writers link readers directly to their story in the thread, instead of readers having to hunt through many pages. This way, they can post their stories inside that index thread, and still be able to link to them in signatures and so forth.

There is a group just for writers and fans of Fanfics. It's called Fanfiction. I used to be a member and post mine in it. But its a very inactive group, so I left.

Each fan-fic requires its own thread.

I would personally suggest you either make a group devoted to fanfics and discussion, or use the fanfic facilities at HBO.

Or both.

I agree with you Nosferatu, however, new Mombasa DOESNT work well, I have a spectacular Fanfic(see sig) and I post chapters in it about every 2 days. But it is practcally usless, no one seems to notice it,so, I have to bend the rules, I admit it i do bump in the thread(hey at least I seperate the bumps every 3-5 hr. about) becuase I don't know if peoples reading the thing, I am postinat HBO(actually i givin up thier), also, B-net has the most members of them all, I want to display my work to thelargest public so it obtains better atention. I even post in a Fanfic chapter, but only 20 people are active, none post in the discussion thread, so, whats the point thier? So, I think thier should be a fanfiction Forum, sure we already have alot, but we have the space.

To minimize any Spam attacks(which would kill off the forum)We should make fanfictionists and posters register in that particular forum, unregistered users can viwe, but not post. Or, we could have unregistered people post, but not create a thread, it's tottally workable, I say we go for it.

We should call it The Writers, simple.

P.S: sorry for any crude spelling, i'm on summer break, I lost my amazing ability to spell.

I think what Shishka and Nosferatu are both forgetting, is that there always people who won't want to be confined to groups. It's not just new people, but people like me or MCs Brother, or...anyone. They want to be heard by everyone, not just a select few.

I think a forum would be a good idea, anybody would be able to read the fics and not just people who are members of a certain group. It wouldnt be too hard, just give Mr Clarke or somebody super responsible admin privelages and i think it could be a pretty good idea. The fanfic community is fastly growing, everyone has noticed it so i think keeping them all in a certain forum would be a good idea. Its logical.

Oh i nearly forgot, if you read this recon 54, choiboy already created a fanfic index and everyone begged to getit stickied, he put alot of time and effort into it so why didnt you just sticky that instead of making your own???

I think that people should just post that kind of stuff in "The Flood". That's where it belongs.
