I wish we had HEK and Halo CE for Mac. If they could port Halo to the Mac they should at least port HEK and Halo CE to the Mac. I also wish that you could change the graphics card on an eMac or Powerbook. I have both and have to stay content with the graphics. The eMac graphics aren't bad but they aren't really really good either. They are about the equivilent of a Radeon 9200 I believe. *sigh* Oh well.

BTW: Don't even think about starting to flame Mac. It's got it's downsides but it also has some advantages.

Excellent. I've never seen a Halo Mac player that actually cares about getting CE and the HEK.

Here's what you do. Posting at the Bungie forums isn't going to do much, although it may be a way to attract the attention of other Mac players.

Write to the developer of Halo Mac! If they don't know about demand for this product, then it will never be developed. The Mac "community" needs to organize a voice for CE. It has been said in the Gearbox forums that Gearbox has passed on Halo CE/HEK code to be evaluated by Westlake/Macsoft/whoever is taking care of the Mac port. That was several months ago, right when these programs were released, and I haven't heard a peep out of Westlake/Macsoft concerning Halo CE/HEK.

The problem with developing for Macs lies in economies of scale. Westlake is going to see how poorly CE has been doing, due to its non-mandatory upgrade path, and realise... hey, there are even less Mac players than PC players... there are going to be like two people that want to download any Halo CE Conversion that we do. That's why it's so important for you Mac players to let them know that they're wrong. Write them an email, then write another when you get no response. Tell your fellow Mac gamers to write them a letter. If the developers receive enough interest in Halo CE for Mac, then there may be hope for halo CE yet. :)

Thanks for the advice. I've been trying to get a Mac HEK/CE movement going for months. You are right that the main reason I'm posting here is to get Mac Users to rally. I've tried posting at the halomods forum but the people there won't register my account. I've been waiting for an account register for months and even tried again. Other than halomods.com I don't know where there are a large number of Mac users on the web. Bungie is mostly XBOX and PC. Halodev is too small even though it's largely Mac (I will try there too). Also, the other sites don't have any mac users to help really. The number of Mac users has risen sharply since the iPod and iTunes thing but the gaming community is too spread out whereas almost everyone who reads this will be a PC user. I would try halomods again but they said specifically to not try and register again. *sigh* Do you think I should try writing to Macsoft, Gearbox, or Westlake Interactive? Macsoft publishd it. Gearbox made CE and HEK (though they might be a PC only company). Westlake ported Halo to the Mac. This is so confusing without help sometimes. If anyone knows where there are alot of Mac users out there please say so. If you are a Mac user than please, please, please, help me get HeK and CE. Think about it Mac users. You could make your very own maps and wepons. Cool huh.

Yes, I think you should write to Westlake. They are the ones that took the code from Gearbox and ported it to Mac. Writing to Macsoft might be your next best step if you can't get a response out of Westlake, but Macsoft doesn't have anything to do with the actual writing of the code.

Whatever you do, make sure your emails are easy to read, gramatically correct, and polite. The clearer and more articulate your communication, the more likely it is that your letter won't be overlooked.

The question is where to start the petition. Again, there are not many places where you could find alot of Mac users besides halomods. How would you create the petition? Would you use peoples real names, because they might be reluctant to give them. If you used usernames than that most likely wouldn't convince them. You couldn't even get signatures, just names typed in a word document. The petition is a great idea but I would need some help with it. I'm off to halodev to post in the forums there if possible. Keep viewing your thoughts because I will need help. Here is the e-mail that I sent to Westlake:

Dear Westlake,
I have been playing Halo for the Mac ever since it was released and am thrilled by it. The quality and other wonderful aspects of the game are phenomenal. There is however, one thing that I would like to request. Many Mac Halo users I have met are asking the same question as me. Will you please port Halo CE and HEK to the Mac? A very large amount of the Mac Halo community, as well as myself, would be overjoyed and very grateful to have the ability to use these programs. We figure that since you did such a good job brining Halo to the Mac that you would be able to do this fairly easily. One of the main reasons that we would like to have these particular programs that Windows users enjoy is so that we can create maps of our own. It would be absolutely incredible to be able to create our own areas of play because of the amount of entertainment that it would provide. This, and many other functions would also ensure that Halo will keep up popularity and would always have new and exciting ways to keep gamers entertained. There would be virtually no end to the quantity of enjoyment possible. If you could please bring Halo CE and the Halo Editing Kit to the Mac then many gamers as well as myself would be very appreciative and grateful. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
------ ------- and the Halo community

I included my name is the space that is dotted out. What do you think?

Sorry for the double post but I can't re-edit my other one for some reason. You know how once in a while there is a top story on Halo CE? Well I figure that a great way to get people to know about this is to post a link to this topic in the "Discuss this story" area. We could get alot of Halo Mac and Halo PC users to help. Do you think it would work?

The question is where to start the petition.

I'm not a Mac user, so I've never really searched for a place to find fellow Mac gamers. This looks like a nice place to start, to me, though. And a petition looks nice, but ultimately, I think you will lead a more effective campaign if you simply have people email Westlake Interactive with requests for updates on the project (and I just noticed that site I linked to doesn't allow posting of petitions). Of course, if you tell people to email Westlake, tell them the same things I suggested to you. Keep it polite, keep it gramatically correct, keep it simple to read.

I think your letter is a great example. More letters like that might elicit at least an update on the project. Unfortunately, Westlake does not run a forum on their server, so it's hard to collect a bunch of people to rally support, and there is no place for developers to announce an official standing on Halo CE for Mac. As it stands right now, I think they're just hoping the rumor of the possibility for Halo CE Mac will just fade into history without them having to worry about it. If people speak up, then they will at least have to confront the possibility of putting this update out for Macintosh users.

It might be worth it to create an "official" Halo Custom Edition Mac thread somewhere (not necessarily on this board, as it obviously doesn't reach many Mac users) and post any updates you get from Westlake in it. Of course, I'd wait to see if I got a response from them first, before trying to organize support. They might just email you back and say that they have considered the project and see it as not feasible. :( However, if you do get a positive response, I'd be willing to help out if you think there's anything I could do to organize support.

Thanks for the site. I'll try posting about this there. I will keep you posted if I get a positive response. I think that you are right about having people e-mail westlake. I know about 12 people who would send their own individual e-mails to them. Thanks.
