I think what will happen is what has been said before. Various video game publications will give a more than generous overview on soem of the stuff that Bungie has yet to have told the community, though that does not mean in any way shape or form that we'll know every little minor detail about multi-player or campaing. August 24th release date is definitely not a realease date for Halo 2, too many factors have to be altered simply because Bungie decided to release the game two months early: printing, shipping, packaging and so on. And besides, if Bungie were too release it two months ahead of time, don't you think for their's, xboxs', and microsoft's case that they would anounce a little before August 24th? If thats the case, then there would be no need to keep the whole secret behind the timer on ilovebees.com hence killing all the hype. All I'm saying is that hype and ploys can only go so far until it can be a potential downer for sales. People have jobs and more often than not usually want to keep them so they can support themselves and whoeve else they deem worthy.
