Why is it that there is no search feature for these forums?
I posted a thread a while back and came back to check it a couple of days later and couldnt for the life of me find it.
Is there such a feature hidden away or right in front of me that i dont see?10 pages can be 1 day of posts. how the heck are we suppose to keep up with them?

A search feature is coming soon.

But for now, use your initiative. Don't expect others to do everything for you. Browsers have things called bookmarks, use them for your threads.

Making a good Search app is hard to do, and from what I've heard it's being coded from scratch by Achronos. With that being said, it is coming soon.

I'm certifiable.

The problem is finding a search function that'll go through the four-and-a-half million threads here (this, for instance, is thread #4,397,567 according to the "postID" in the address), while simultaniously serving one-and-a-quarter million user accounts (yours, for instance, is #1,192,454), without causing the servers to melt.

When Achronos figures that out, I'll give up a standing ovation; this place is BIG and BUSY.

-- Steve's guessing that about half those user accounts are inactive (banned, abandoned, etc) but still that's a monstrously big number of people.

Yes a search feature would be very nice! But Bungie.net should make it so that if you wanted to monitor a certain thread you could click a button o the page - but limit to on;y 10 of those a month - as mean people would take advantige of it and make the webmaster's life like hell.

Do accounts get deleted after an amount of time of inactivity?

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Or how about an entire forum for it...

Google does waaaaay more than that and still works fine.

But Google does it a lot differently. Google uses PageRank, which orders the pages included in the search by the number of other pages indexed which link to pages with the keywords you put in. Obviously, a system like that doesn't work for searching posts and threads.

...And Google's a huge company, with a correspondingly huge server farm, and a huge amount of employees.

Hey you remember that feb 9 rumor crazy that was going on in the H2 forums. Imagine. Look at the end of legendary credits on Halo 2 there is a Oct 29. That must be when the search feature is coming out.

I imagine that google has more computer power at its disposal, too. It sells advertisment and can invest its earnings in more computers. Bungie just exists to advertise its games and give us a place to spend our free time. They don't make that much money just off of this site.
