My sister has a wireless router for her computer. What do I need to hook my xbox up to it?

I think you just need and ethernet cable. Is her modem internal or external? You could also check xbox.com and look at their support page for more hook-up help.

You could make your xbox go wireless (get the wireless kit) but I suggest running it straight through a normal switch/router because wireless loses a lot more packets than normal ethernet.

You sound like you have the same setup as me, I just ran a long ethernet cable from the back of my pc to the back of my xbox. You just have to set up your isp to share your internet connection with the xbox.

I live on the second floor of our house and the computer is on the first floor. I'd have to run the wire out the window and up to my room. That would work right? Subzero tempetures won't hurt it?

Don't know, I'd just ask someone at the store if the temp would damage it.

I'll ask CabooseMoose (or Moosey to some of us) to come over and figure it out. He only lives a few miles away.

I have yet to hear of a wireless internal router. And I work in the field. There are internal wireless cards, but you cannot use that. You just run your Xbox as you always have, then run her wireless connection off the wireless router.

Here's what you'll need for her to have a wireless PC:
Wirless Router

Wireless Card

This will give the network wireless capability assuming you split it with a switch or router.

Subzero temps don't hurt fiberoptics.

But, in that case, just go wireless and buy the xbox wireless kit. We hardwired my house (I actually went through the roof).

She's got the wireless router and card. I'd have to buy some sort of reciever to share that router. Or do I just buy another router? You can't hook up a cable to a wireless router can you?

i seriously doubt he has fiber obtics in his house.

what kind of wireless router does she have? it should have 4 ports on the back you can plug into.

if you feel like blowing a $100 go buy a wireless kit. one problem. with wireless the further you are away from the router the more problems you'll notice with you connection. might even give you some noticable lag on xbl. i'd just run a cable from your xbox to the back of the router. cold won't hurt the cable. the best solution is to get your dad to run you some cable with an cat5 outlet near your xbox and another near the router.

go to radioshack they are good at helping out. what you will need

1) length of cat5 cable unterminated (to run behind the wall)
2) 2 modular wall outlets
3) 2 snap in cat5 pieces for the wall outlets
4) 2 small cat5 (ethernet cables) to run from the wall to the router and xbox

technically you can buy a nic card with 4+ ports and use your computer as a router. but lets not confuse the guy.

all you need is a wireless bridge to hook into your xbox's ethernet port. belkin and d-link both make good ones. you then need to access it through the pc to set it up, it's a simple web-based process, it's like click click click done.

Will any wireless bridge work or do I have to buy a specific one for this router?

You have a wireless router? Make sure you secure it, or people(like me) will steal your internet(w00t!).
