So what do you do when you play offense (you get the flag) or defense (you defend the home flag)?
I usually play defense. One of the tactics I use on the Sidewinder level is to sit in the ladders, wait for the enemy to come and get the flag, and then while he's running out, I either melee him or splatter his body on the walls with my shot gun.

So... what do you do?

Every1 plays CTF on Blood Gulch. It's like THE level for ctf.
I usually play offense if i'm not paired up with some1 retarded (rare occurance).
And, as per unwritten protocal, i take the pistol, 4 frags, and the sniper rifle (or shotgun if theirs a lot of them at the base.)

BG, i love my sniper rifle, so the first thing i do is grab that. Next i go through the teleporter (red) and crouch behind the mound popping off the opposition as cover fire while the rest of my team either hop in a hog and gun 'em down or storm the base. lovely jubbly.

If I'm assaulting the base myself I'll take Shotgun/Plasma Rifle and a Pistol, then its a case of go in kill the guys grab the Flag get out the base and hop into the waiting Hog that my friends driving. If there's no Hog one tactic I use is to go through the teleporter then stand behind where you come out of and drop the flag. Then as the people chasing you come out you kill them off. Then make a break for it, I personally throw the flag a lot letting my teammates pick it up so I can go and hold the other team off for as long as I can!
If I'm covering I'll get Sniper and Pistol the rest is pretty much self explanatory!
On defense I will either keep a strong midfield defense with my Sniper Rifle or Ill sit in the base with my Shotgun!

we claim our weapons before the game begins, so there's no confusion, then we immediatly go on the offensive. the best defenceis a good offence.

lol yeah It sounds really petty but I hate it when a weaker sniper on my team takes the sniper rifle! I just know the shots are going to be wasted!

Sneak in to the enemies base and stand at the back with a rocket launcher.....its pretty good on Side Winder as the enemy think theyve managed to get away run into their own base and BOOM! Flag returned.

or

if they dont get the flag and it switches to Offense for us....i grab it quickly just before the games says "Blue Team PTF" and it glitches and doesnt say it until a few seconds later the game finally says " Blue team has the flag" which then red team obviously run back into their base and start searching and shouting at each other, by then im half way back to my base. ( watch out though, when theyve found you, their snipers wont be happy! )

I take my trusty shotgun and hop on a Ghost, from there on I drive directly to the opposition base, usually I have to dodge sniper fire. Take a side ramp, kill anybody on the roof, kill anyone inside, anyone outside take the flag and the Ghost and head home. Sometimes I grab camo before I drive to the enemy base and jump off at the last minute.

Most of the time I'm a defender with my Shotgun or Plasma rifle. I like to hide in spots so obvious no one would look. Like around the small corner near the health pack in Sidewinder. We usually block off one of the sides so they have to come in one way. For BG I lurk in the corners and don't move until I hear they guy has grabbed the flag, I then start buckshotting him when he thinks he can get away clean. My friends also have the fun tactic of stuffing as much crap in the base in Sidewinder as possible. That can get evil. If I'm in the mood and geting cabin fever I run out of the base with a sniper and hide right next to the enterence to the tunnels in SW.

When I'm on offence I'm a little reckless. At least getting to the flag I am. I can have corpses piled high as long as I get that flag. Once I get it I take a less obvious route. A fun game we play at LANs is CTF in wizard with rockets. That's good fun. Always take the teleports once you get the flag.. just know where they spit you out.

Or if I feel cocky I run in, steal a vehicle from their base, and drive off with it.

I use a pistol/shotgun combo.

Usually people are so busy satisfying vendettas, that I can just take a hog (prefferably with someone in the back) run into the base, and drive back without much trouble. At the end of the game I have the least kills, but I've scored more flags than everyone else. It IS capture the flag, after all.

I've never had the opportunity to play CTF on a team. Whenever I play it's aalways the same three people against me. I ALWAYS win. ALWAYS. SO I just whip out a SR, kill them, because they try to bum-rush me, and then take their flag without difficulty. But, I'm best at defense, because that means that they come to you.

there are other good ctf's other than the BG or SW. if you only got one screen then hang'em high or even chiron are good to play altho wtihout snipers on hang'em high cos its more of a challenge for the defenders if its assult.

But on BG its always good to stay to the sides and use the sniper rifle, also a pistol. I think its great wen ever you set up a big plan like get some to wait outside with a warthog and escape that way.

  • 08.06.2004 6:00 AM PDT

my group`s tactics is one stay behind and guard the flag while the others are offense
this is in bg

If it's 2 vs. 2, I like to go aggressive with both players attacking - one grabs the flag, the other covers. Try to keep them off balance. If there are more players involved, keep the best pistoler/sniper back and the others go for the flag. Best defense is offence ;)

I usually go through the portal grab our teams rocket launcher then just wait for the enemy to come through our portal. Blast him reload then by that time about 10 seconds later i wait for an nme vehicle to go by then just send a nice little presant to the vehicle with or without the flag.

on pc i either set up a 2 man defense with [censored] and/or i defend the base with a sniper rifle, also on death island, its fun to bottleneck the enemies in their base with an ingenious sniper spot that is highly classified and keeps all gound vehicle access down to a near stop. 90% kill/retreat rate.
