Jus like the bad guy, from lethal weapons 2. =]

Only BAD thing is...I cant customize my control layout? why is that?

We hired a team of testers who were members of Halo and Counterstrike leagues and had them play each other-a lot. When the complaining stopped, we knew we had it -Mitch Gitelman/ShadowRun

This was clearly written a while ago because there was no mention of the grenades being currently overpowered. Also, the needler rifle is a lot more effective than the DMR and people definitely opting for that instead.

The DMR needs more ammo god damn it, it needs 16 clips just like the needle rifle.

Also, game speed is way too slow. I don't care what reasoning he can possibly give, it just feels awful moving that slow.

I'm an Intensive- Care bear

I still don't get why health packs are necessary, what is Bungie trying to get us to do as players? Is it to slow down combat, make players who get into multiple encounters weaker for the next one, or simply add an additional element from halo CE. I like reach so far but having to pull out of combat to run to a health pack usually leaves me in a worse situation then I was in (because I have to run around the map with low health).

Many bulls encompass me; strong bulls of Bashan surround me;
they open wide their mouths at me, like a ravening and roaring lion.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast;
my strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws;
you lay me in the dust of death. -Psalm 22:12-15

In Halo: CE, to get a head shot with the pistol, you would aim the very bottom of the reticle at the opponents head. Does the same work with the blooming reticle in Reach? Basically, do we have to judge where the bottom of the reticle is and aim that spot at the opponents head when we pull the trigger to get a guaranteed head shot?

I had no idea the Needler Rifle was an automatic weapon, thanks for the tip.

Wow, some great tips in there. I had no clue that the Needle Rifle was fully automatic!

Edit:
What were the odds that the guy who posted before me said virtually the same thing? Guess I should have read all the comments before I posted. :\

"He also notes that Armor Lock only EMPs when you exit out after holding it for a significant duration"

Nope. I've crept up on people and got a punch in only for them to go in to armor lock for a fraction of a second, drop my shields and punch me down.
I agree that that's how it should work but not how it actually does at the moment.

Im not doing bad in reach but i still feel like their taking away the feel of a halo game. Reach feels very slow like not nearly as fast paced as the other halo games. I know halo reach is diffrent but why nor bring new ideas will still keeping old ideas. That extra health "health pack" should not be there. If it was regualr shields to me the game would be ten times better. Hopefully there will be an option to adjust health and speed like halo 3. I just want MLG to be in Reach.
I agree with this guy. I still don't understand why they had to make the game so much slower. Was it because they thought sprint would be pointless if it was possible to not spend half the game trying to get to the action without it? *stomps of to plague the forums with angry comments about player movmentspeed*

Then they'll have to make weapons kill quicker because you can escape quicker. Sounds fine to me. I also hate having health packs. I do not see what this adds to the game. Saying "You have to have map control to get the health packs" is not a good reason. Health packs are not a good "power up" if you can even call them that. I always thought getting rid of health packs was one of the best improvements made over the Halo games.

(Sorry for double post, but this is part of the discussion)

The winner of an encounter who loses more than a third of his health is at a disadvantage in the next battle he runs into, while the guy who died has full health. One of the best things about Halo (CE didn't have this but whatever), was that as soon as your shields and health are up (and yes, some of us wait around until our health is back up because we DO take notice of it and pay attention even in H2 and H3 with no bar) was that everyone's health and shields would be equal again in the next fight.

Frag the weak, hurdle the dead.

So the bottom note of the update says the camo doesn't scramble your teammates radar. This is totally untrue though, or have I had a bug this entire time?

Bungie's article to convince people that Reach takes more skill, lol :p

It's a good read for those who are slow to adapt, though. Everything I read seemed obvious, but I've seen some people who have played over 50 games and still don't understand the other side of the argument (ie. Armor abilities able to make up for slower walking speed, bloom allowing you to choose between speed and accuracy, etc.).

I agree with Bungie's side for the most part, but I still think that the blast radius of grenades is too large. Maybe H3 was a bit too small, but as it is in the Beta, it's quite often simply impossible to dodge grenades. Very annoying when you clearly have a guy 1-shot and he just turns around and nades your feet. It pretty much takes away the skill element of awareness, because as long as you have grenades, you don't really need to pay attention to where your opponents are.

Something between the current blast radius and the old one would be idea.

Great guide, lots of good info for some of the newer players to the beta. I my self have acquainted my self to all the new mechanics of the game and already pretty decent at it. Looking forward to NT1 and the retail game. Keep up the good work guys and gals!

Nice guide. Learned some things :).

Bungie, thanks for the different control settings.

I think the recon controler type is almost the same as the Halo 3 and it´s quite good for me 'cause I use melee a lot, so you should try the controler settings.

thanks for the heads up bungie. however some suggestions. with the armour, you are right in it being so powerful, but could you make it with a longer recharge time since its so powerful. something so powerful is likely to be spammed without consequences.

also with the double melee hit, you should make it alot slower. it should be as slow as halo 3 or even a little slower, to make the melee something that should be used with care. its too fast and mistakes have almost no consequences cos of speed.

and to those out there who think reach is not as fun as other halo games, maybe you should play it first before saying that. but aside from those two things (armour lock and melee speed) the rest is great. good job you guys!

  • 05.12.2010 11:47 PM PDT

Awesomely useful guide!
Especially the note that you can use Armor Lock to shield yourself from your own grenade, when chased by two enemies.

  • 05.13.2010 4:06 AM PDT

I knew most of that info, but there was some REALLY great stuff in there.

Thanks a bunch

Only reason I can think of is to prevent people from charging in, like on Narrows in H3 and not worrying about their health since they know it will recharge. There are much fewer "Mexican Standoffs" now since if you get hurt badly you have to retreat and find a health pack instead of just hiding for a few seconds and repeating the charge.

I personally like the change, but to each his own.
