this isn't modding an xbox, it's not illegal, it's part of PC gaming.

OP, try this site

What a relief! :)

Ok op, first, you'll want to start with Halo Map Tools, which is good for making simple mods. Try that out first to get started than get the advanced mods, which will allow you to make maps.

It depends on what you want to do, really. Halo Map Tools won't help you at all when it comes down to serious work with the HEK. It's not even a good introduction for beginners, since it is not even remotely related to the process involved in map creation with the HEK.

If you want to dick around with simple mods like making your plasma pistol fire rockets, then Halo Map Tools is for you.

If you want to make your own gun that can fire a custom projectiles and has custom animations and sounds, or if you want to make a map that isn't just a texture swap, then you need to look at some tutorials on the HEK.

I'd recommend ripping a map like Blood Gulch using HEK+ and downloading custom tags from HaloMaps. You should first learn the basics of how tags work, then slowly back into creating your own tags.

If you need help on this, there's two active forums still open. There's the Modacity community which is based on the biggest Halo CE community from the Gearbox forums and generally has more experienced modders. There's also the HaloMaps forum which is less active, but is more tolerant of people who can't spell or use proper grammar.

No. It wasn't fake, but it wasn't what it was made out to be either. The code was largely unfinished and unstable. Many of the screenshots shown were "staged".

Yeah, but HMT can improve already existing maps. I never really used HEK. Is it easy to use? :S

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

HEK is extremely difficult to use, in my opinion. Not to mention it recommends a multi-thousand-dollar 3D modeling program to go with it.

This is the average H2 Fanboy.
Xfire: JacobGRocks.
50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Unless you use gmax. GMax is free and also works with the halo 1 EK. H2V needs 3D$ Max though

I was able to acquire and install Gmax. Still hard to use, though. Sucks you can't use it with H2EK.

Let there be CHAOS!

Would've been nice to have a "Halo CE Hammer" type editor. I tried multiple times to get into Halo map making way back in the day, but everytime I tried to compile even the simplest of maps I would get a million errors about leaked geometry. I even tried a simple cube, lol. I tried using both 3DS and Gmax; neither could do the job for me apparently.

EDIT: Oh man, and they could've called it "Blammer". Missed a golden opportunity there Bungie.

OUCH

and I mean OUCH.

That hurts finding that out...

I knew it was a huge and ambitious project and the guys working on it disappeared or didn't have solid time for it, but wow.

I would try Spark Edit too. I find it useful.

bunch of nubs trying to make it big in Halo, but they failed, and couldn't keep their hoax up for much longer, since none of them could commit as a team.
