Um, in llight of recent spam attacks i thought of a way to possibly reduce spamming. Make it so you can only create a topic every 5-10 minutes. That would pretty much halt spammers in thier tracks.

If this has been suggested before im sorry.

Every time a spam attack like that happens it gets suggested. I'm all for it.

Yeah. But a lot of people think it should only be like 5 a day. I mean, who honestly needs to make more than that?

Yea, I think the 5 a day is more reasonable.

I think 2 a day would be enough. The problem is that people could just start a couple accounts and bypass the whole thing.

True, but new members cannot make new topics until their account has been active for at least 24 hours.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Well, regulating the number of posts a user can make in a certain amount of time is an interesting way to limit spam, however, for the many people who log on once per day in order to check all of the forums and some group forums, a daily limit of 5 posts wouldn't be enough to get a decent day's posting done and a limit to one post every 5-10 minutes would prove very annoying.

They don't mean a limit on the number of times you can post responses, but instead the number of times you can post new topics. If spammers attack a single thread, big deal, not many will notice it... it's when they attack an entire forum that it gets noticed via the mainpage.

Edit My grammar was... incoherent.

I stand corrected sir. Thank you for noticing my error. Guess that is a good sign that I should get some sleep...

Baha, there's already a limit anyway. 7 minutes after you post a topic you get logged out, if you try to make a new one. I think that's good enough.

Considering the flood was just under a spam attack that lasted like 15+ pages i doubt it.

Yes, I know that, but at the moment, they have given us this privilege. I'm expressing my appreciation for it.

I believe he mean create a thread, not just post in one. I think you should be able to post as much as you want, but can create only a certain amount of threads.

Well the idea for only creating a post every 5-10 minuets would be annoying and multiple accounts could bypass it, it would also create a strain on the already busy Bungie.net team. Having a limit of a certain amount per day per forum, would also yield the same problems, as well as if a good member had much to talk about in a span of 24 hours, fanfics, questions, ext. All in all i think both ideas are bad, yet i don't have an idea, other than a few more mods.

I'll be on my own side.

i understand your reasoning, Gorger, but its not that simple. I think Gnome summed it up. I don't think there is a truly effective solution to the growing epidemic of "Dumbass" thats been spreading.

They could creat several accounts at one time. Then they let the 24 hours go up and they have a whole bunch of new accounts.
