First off, this was originally done on my other account. But the writing is mine. Don't believe me, hit me up with a PM under the username of "Huvergador".

Chapter One: Upon Awakening

"You ever wonder what's up there?" John asked, as he and Kelly lay together in a bed of grass under the stars. John faced her, propping himself on one arm.

"Like what?" she replied, uncertainly.

"Maybe someone out there is wondering what it's like here." John breathed, facing the many glowing lights that shone in the night sky.

"I guess . . . do you think we'll ever meet them?" Kelly asked, her blue dyed hair looking more black in the dim light.

"I hope so," John said, turning to her. "Don't you?"

Spartan, Master Chief, John 117's hand shot up in instinct as breath returned to his body. He grasped a fragile limb, almost allowing himself to scream, that is, until, he made sense of the figure.

A UNSC soldier.

Reluctantly, the Spartan let go, eying the area around him suspiciously. He furrowed his brows behind the mirror-plated visor, attempting to make sense of the cryo station, and the tube he resided in. Then it all came back. The Ark, its explosion, the ship splitting into two . . .

"What's happening?" John asked in his low, deep voice, climbing out of the cryo pod.

"S- sir. We picked up your distress beacon. The one the AI left for us." replied the marine, clad in a full body spacesuit. The Spartan was about to question the soldier's outfit, until he noticed the objects around him floating in the zero-G environment, and his own boots beginnimg to rise.

"Cortana?" John asked, a sudden rememberence in his voice. "Where is she?"

"We," the marine cleared his throat. "We took her back onto the ship. She's rampant."

The Spartan widened his eyes. "Rampant? Are you sure?" he said in concern.

The soldier nodded. "Positive, sir. No doubt about it. B- but don't worry, we're taking her back the Regeneration plant."

Regeneration plant? John was about to ask another question, but his breathing became more heavy, and he noticed he'd need oxygen soon, or else he'd suffocate once his helmet's reserves ran dry.

"Lead the way," the Spartan said, nodding at the marine. In reply, the marine bobbed his head, then began to drift towards the exit where the two ships met, the Spartan following close behind.

The Master Chief removed his helmet after exiting the airlock, revealing the stubble of a beard, brown hair, pale skin, and scars on his features. Surprised marines stood around him, jaws hanging open.

"Master Chief?" an uncertain voice called.

John turned towards its origin, looking into the glassed eyes of a middle aged man, clad in a lab coat. "Yes?"

"I am Doctor Lynus. I'm here to debrief you. A lot has changed since you've been gone." the man said, removing his glasses, then rubbing them with the end of his coat.

The Chief nodded, and followed the scientist as they began their stroll down the corridors of the UNSC ship.

"How long have I been MIA?" John asked, rubbing his newly grown beard.

"Nearly six years," said the man, a deep seriousness building in his voice.

"Six years?" the Spartan echoed. "And the Covenant?"

"You stopped them with the assassination of their last Prophet," said Doctor Lynus. "Some of them, anyway,"

"What do you mean, 'some of them'?" asked the Chief.

"The Brutes, Jackals, and most of the Grunts - they stuck true to their beliefs. Apparently, the 'Great Path', or whetever they call it, can't be stopped so easily."

John shook his head. "The flood?"

"You mean the parasite? They've been taken care of, we can be sure of that."

"And what about the other Covenant? Are they on our side?"

"Yes, yes, they are. The Elites are especially fond of us. Over the years, humans have moved to their homeworld, Sangheilios, and began colonizing there. The Elites don't even seem to mind."

"And Cortana . . ?"

The doctors wrinkles lined together as he frowned. "The AI aboard Forward Unto Dawn? She is most definitely rampant. Not to worry, a simple trip to the Regeneration plant, and that will be taken care of. Well, hopefully."

The pair turned a corner, walking by a group of conversing marines.

"Regeneration plant? What is that? You found a cure for rampancy?"

"Oh, yes, I almost forgot. You haven't been present during our most remarkable discoveries." Lynus said to himself, more than to the Spartan. "The Engineers helped us build the plant. It essentially gives AI a brain - a real, human brain,"

"You mean to tell me Cortana will be a floating brain, trapped in a jar?" John boomed with sudden venom.

The Doctor eyed the Spartan fearfully. "N- no, let me finish. The process is much like flash cloning - we take her AI encryption codes, and burn them into an artificial brain we make ourselves. We then implant it into an artificial body, then let the data - memories - synchronize. The body will shape and form, becoming that of her AI model." the Doctor stopped for breath.

"Then, after several hours, if everything goes accoring to plan, the process will be complete. The AI - Cortana - will have a body as human as yours or mine. A respritory system, circulatory system, the works. Hell, even a reproductive system. The body should function normally from there on out, growing old as normal bodies do, and, eventually, dying." He pinched the bridge of his nose.

John's eyes widened in marvel at this amazing feat. Modern technology was certainly improving, thanks to Humanity's new alien allies. "Is the process dangerous?" John asked.

Lynus sighed. "Quite so. Only a few of the AI models make it out alive, but I'll see to it that Cortana has the most productive and likely chance she can get."

John nodded, brows creased together in concern. "When does the," the Chief searched for the right word. "Synchronization begin?"

"In just a few hours," Lynus responded, then stopped, turning to the Spartan. His next words had caught the Chief by surprise, landing on his shoulder until they finally made their way for his ear. "You're still a soldier, Chief. And the war, although it isn't as drastic, still isn't over yet."

And with that, the doctor spun on his heel, leaving John to contemplate all that was going on.

How'd you find me?

This looks interesting. I didn't notice any spelling mistakes, but you kept putting commas after finishing dialogue, which is a big no-no. Keep going. This story has potential.

EDIT: A reproductive system? Is that foreshadowing I hear?

Bow chicka honk honk...
