Subject: Halo Custom Edition Dedicated Server CD Key question?

The Room where we have our server almost looks like a large empty room with an ancient death machine in it.

Hey I have just built a Dedicated server machine and before I go out and try something or go out and buy a new Halo Disk. I would like to know this.

If I am running a copy of Halo and using the Dedicated server program. Can I still connect to if I am using the same CD key as the Server is.

This server is a different computer than the computer I am trying to access it with.

My CD key is my own and is legal, I just want to know if i can do that, because it would be great to know before I figure out it doesn't work, or I go out and buy a new disk.

Please reply soon

Something smells fishy...

I believe you need two separate product keys. One key for the dedicated server and another for you to play on it.

The dedicated server doesn't need a CD key, so no worries.

Oh shoot my bad. I shouldn't have put the above.

I've had a good amount of experience using Halo dedicated servers.
So no you don't need another product key. Sorry for my mistake.

What exactly is the problem you are having? Can you see your server? When you attempt to connect, does it give you an error? Is it saying your CD key is invalid?

The only time you should ever get an error saying your CD key is invalid is when you are using a key that has been published to the Internet and is distributed by pirates. Of course, this would also mean that if you are running an updated version of Halo, you would not be able to connect to ANY games you find on the Internet as well.

You actually don't even need to install Halo to use the dedicated server. All you need is the dedicated server exe, strings.dll, and a "maps" folder with all stock maps inside it. You also need your Halo profile folder from "My Documents" on the server, so it has all gametypes and doesn't give you any profile path errors.

This is the average H2 Fanboy.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

You only need a key for the h2v server. Not the halo 1 server.
Oh, and the h2v server key is also tied to the lame activation limit, so if it runs out, you can't host another one.

Also, jcap, the user above doesn't have it yet, but he is used to the many games where you need a key to host a game.

And another thing, unlike h2v, if you have a halo pc server, you can track it here
