Subject: What do all you CE lovers think of Reach?

Frog blast the ventcore!

I want to start off by saying I've played and beaten every Halo game(including Wars)and like many of you I still think Halo CE is the best Halo game ever made.

I got my hands on the Reach Beta and to my surprise I loved it! Sure it's completely different than CE and brings some new game-play mechanics, especially loadouts. Even though they sure changed my baby that is Halo CE, they sure didn't rough it up they merely matured it.

halo reach has tried to mix parts of ce too much in its multiplayer. This hasnt worked because ce is ultimatly campaign based, so things such as the super nades work well in ce, but not so well in reach multiplayer =P

I liked Reach, and it's extreme superiority over H3 drove me to go out and get another copy of CE (I haven't had one for a while, long story). Then I played CE and realized that it is still the best Halo, and Reach is incredibly different.

Reach is nothing like CE, but it is coming kinda close to being in the same league of awesomeness (and as it stands, no other game is in there).

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I loved Reach, the gameplay is a lot more grounded now.

R.I.P. Halo 2
11/9/04 - 4/15/10

As far as multiplayer goes, Reach is definitely on the bottom.

I have to say, I enjoy it much, much more than Halo 3. It is easy to see how they tried to mesh parts of Halo: CE to mechanics of Halo 3. Health bars and fall damage really add a tactical level to combat that hasn't been seen in Halo for almost a decade. And the M6D is so ossum.

The only thing I'm concerned about is 1v1 and vehicles. Like Halo 3, there really isn't too much middle ground when dealing with these. If you fire on someone first, you're pretty much guaranteed to win because of the weapon mechanics, auto-aim, and large hitboxes, albeit reduced from Halo 3.

When using a vehicle, it's either incredibly overpowered in its niche or almost useless everywhere else. Whereas in Halo: CE, you could hold your own anywhere, but excel in its niche.

Its better than halo3 but no where near as good as halo2 or halo CE. Sorry Bungie:)

I greatly enjoyed the beta. So far, it shaping up to be the best Halo since CE.

Balance wise, I'd say that Reach is a huge step forward from Halo 3 and 2. The maps that we were shown were a bit weak, but not bad. However, if there aren't much better maps by release, my ranking scale would go like this: Halo CE>Halo 2 (by a small margin, Halo 2 was just so fun, especially with the glitches and vacations etc.)>Halo Reach>Halo 3 (by a huge margin, Halo 3 sucked hard). Halo Reach will need a rock solid and emotional campaign, and some good new maps along with some more throwbacks and a good update to Forge in order to to Halo 2 and maybe CE. But I doubt it will get that good.

50s in: Slayer, Doubles, Lone Wolves, Objective, Ranked BTB, Swat, Snipers.

I hated it. I didn't think it was anything like CE. There are so many ridiculous gimmicks that just ruin the game for me, not to mention the god awful maps and gametypes.

H1>H2>H3>>>>>>>>Reach

i personally loved the beta...there were a few problems, but thats what beta's are for....to fix them problems.

anyways halo games go like this for me:

halo CE > Reach > ODST > halo3 > halo wars > halo 2

yes i said it...halo 2 was the worst out of the bunch.

Reach doesn't deserve the name Halo. Has anybody noticed that the Jackals look like a smoker's lungs, and really aren't Jackals? Not to mention the AR (and pretty much every other weapon...).

  • 06.30.2010 9:11 AM PDT

Wow, just wow, all of you saying reach is a terible game are soo stupid. You obviously are stuck in the past. halo 2 is better than 1, halo 3 is better than 2, and so far reach is the best. You cant play reach and say its a bad game. you guys need to move on from CE im sorry, it was a good game but it was so empty and the AR's Range was so terible its not even funny.

Whats new in the world?

halo 2 is better than 1, halo 3 is better than 2, and so
far reach is the best.

Halo 2's better then Combat Evolved? D:

My name is Miguel Adame and I am 15 years old. Nobody's perfect, but I'm pretty close.

I just hate that Master Chief can jump from a covenant ship, crashland on earth, and survive...while in reach if I go up a grav lift and come down I die.

As a campaign purist who didn't do the beta, have only looked at all the footage I could get. So far it all looks pretty arcade-y. But, that's been the evolution of the series. Quicker kills and far less thinking. Hopefully the promises of more customizing one's Spartan and approach will lead to the kind of replayability CE had.

That would have happened in CE too, don't complain, they brought that back because Reach takes place before Chief's upgrade to Mark 6, as does CE, so he couldn't survive the fall from the Forerunner (not covie) Keyship.

What are you smoking? EVERYONE was complaining about the slower kill times and how slow the game was. Arcady? It's got more stuff than most popular shooters today. As for less thinking? How about taking into accout the Armor abilities? That adds a layer of depth that makes you think a lot more than equipment did in Halo 3 or melee in Halo CE. (Sad truth, the trifecta was really a pair in CE, as melee sucked). As for replayability, it has about a ten level campaign (not confirmed, but inferred), an interesting space level, an improved forge and firefight. There is no way that the game will have less replay value than CE did unless all of the maps suck hard and the campaign too, but I think that we trust Bungie more than that, even if it isn't good, we'll probably be to obsessed with getting new armors to stop.

Well, the everyone is not me. I said I was a Campaign guy, and, I don't see any slower anything going on. Everything is faster in the newer iterations. And, I said I liked the idea of customizing a Spartan. I think it will be really cool. Calm down there... There is no side, just as I said it's all one game a while back...

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

I'm glad they are bringing back stuff from CE to Reach.

The Pistol is good now, the BR is gone and all weapons are used.

I'd call Reach a win. But it does try and bring too much from CE into Reach. Including overpowered grenades and awful vehicle combat/driving.

I'm sorry but Halo 3 minus the splazer had the best vehicle combat and this is coming from someone who loved Halo 1. The Warthog didn't swerve all over the place and drive slowly; the tank didn't take years for its cannon to recharge; and the ghost and banshee weren't unbearably useless for speed and manuverability.
