Subject: Who owns the Halo 1 and 2 PC IP?

Who owns the rights to production and distribution of H1 and 2 PC. It would likely be a publisher, probably Gearbox or Microsoft Games, but which one?

Just curious.
[And hoping Valve will get their hands on it, but that'll never happen.]

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Valve completely destroyed the PS3 port of the Orange Box, then dealt with the problem by ignoring it. They point the finger at EA, who did zero development, only published. Valve is just as crappy as any other proprietary software outfit. And we're all just junkies looking for the next fix.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Looks like some linux fanboy is whining a little too much.
Anyways, it says here that EA devoleped it.

You can totally cram your baseless insults, thanks. If you got screwed over by MS as much as me, you'd be anything but an MS-fanboy, too. What the hell prompted you to just flame me? Is it because I'm a hypocrite? Who isn't? I've talked to EA several times about The Orange Box and they swear all development was done by Valve. People at Valve say EA was responsible. So who's lying? I used to love Valve until the PS3 travesty. Unlike you, I speak up when someone serves me a steaming plate of dog crap. You know, like Halo 2 Vista?

Based on what you're saying node, it sounds like Valve and EA are in some sort of disagreement. They probably won't give you a straight answer explaining who's really at fault.

Don't all companies lie?
We've all witnessed what they wrote is all BS.
[Insert alot of game companies who lie here]
The company I hate most is Microsoft, they -blam!-ed on H2V,
I also hate Bungie because this is exactly what they wanted for H2V.

Valve is one of the only companies I can bring myself to defend, and despite the mistakes they've made, I will continue to do so for the time being. If they actually did do that PS3 port, then yes, shame on them. (I tend to believe Valve's word over EA's however...) And look at the terrible post-release job they did on L4D and how they released the sequel only a year later. They aren't perfect, no company is, but in the big picture, Valve has done great things and is still doing great things.

Linux isn't perfect and neither is windows. Linux has loads of issues as well. And wine has issues running games, getting 1-2 fps playing HL1 on a gtx 260 maxed out is pretty sad.

On the other hand, windows just works. You don't need to hunt for drivers for specific software, and you also don't need to deal with lots of library errors. For example, i got loads of errors trying to play UT2004 on linux, and i had to waste time configuring it, yet it worked out of the box on windows.

Software isn't magically "better" because it is open source. I use a lot of protepry software that just works. I also use some open source apps like Firefox on my PC. I don't blame the source code status for my issues though. In fact, linux has plenty of closed source components that are used a lot, like drivers.

Not sure who said GNU+Linux was perfect. Wasn't me. All software has "loads of issues", depending on your configuration. Win95 worked great for me. Lots of people hated it. UT2004 works fine for me on other OS's as well. Some things don't work well for me. Vista does not "just work" at all in my case. So I recommend not proclaiming certain things are flawless based only on your own experience. Try looking up the word "empathy".

I don't think GNU+Linux is perfect. The main reason I like it and would recommend it is because, in some cases, it respects your freedom to share information, and your freedom to help other people. I'm sorry that you're so defensive about it. I see I made a mistake going back on my word and returning to Bnet. Now more people randomly hate me for some reason.

I don't hate you. I respect what you're saying node. I believe in free GNU and open source software. I also believe in free legal music.

My belief is that corporations over charge for goods that they know are popular or essential and sell well on a consistent basis. Some good examples of popular goods that are obviously overly priced: cereal, shoes, and movie tickets.

I also think Software is over priced. Software is not essential to daily living but software is popular. Thus the expansion of free open source software development is key to providing alternatives to main stream software.
