It's probably your processor. No matter how good it is, a celeron processor is not designed to handle games. It just doesn't have the speed. You can run Halo PC on a celeron (people do) but you're not going to have as good a play experience as if you upgraded to a pentium or AMD 64-bit (don't know too much about AMD, so if i'm wrong on the type, sue me :P )

In short, expect you processor to get bogged down while playing HPC...and freeze.

There are websites out there that can help you find a better processor. Start with http://www.tigerdirect.com. They have just about everything, but the prices can be stiff. Once you find the processor you wnat, shop around for deals on other sites and grab it cheap.

his processor is fine (although it is a celeron...), so that's not it.
last time i had a problem like this, it was because my processor is overheating. in my case (a former Dell case) there is one passive cooling fan. after a while, it got clogged with dirt and lint, and as a result it couldn't spin very fast. i cleaned it out, and that fixed everything. then i bought an actual heatsink for my processor.
so try cleaning out your fan, or buy a heatsink. if you have like 50 fans in your case (it's been done) you should consider looking at the windows xp sp2/ 256MB viedo card fix

1. do you have the latest ati card drivers from the ati site?
2. do you have the latest halo updates (you should)
3. is the card getting enough power? this can be easyly overlooked. what is your power supply's limit?
4. I remember my Celeron halo playing days; it had the Intel accelerated gpx 1. It was like trying to cut your wrists with a butter knife, covered with butter, in the dark, upside-down, with both hands tied behind your back, over a lake filled with sharks, sharks with lasers on their heads, blood thirsty sharks with lasers on their heads... you get the point, it was crappy.

1. did you build the computer? if yes then you should have all teh manuals but if you didnt, youre going to be digging.
2. the wattage should be on one of the sides of the psu, it should be no less than 225, if it is, you need a new one, badly (mine is a 520)
3. a good place for tech info is www.pcper.com and go under the forums
4. a great online source for buying computer supplies is www.newegg.com

well, an athlon is slightly diffrent than intel. I don't know crap about either except that the Front Side Bus (FSB), the Clock Speed, and the Ghz are all important. Faster in all is better!

ADD:
Oh, Intel and Athlon have diffrent CPU slots, they are not cross compatible but there is one new board that can accept both, but its only very new and very pricey.

You mean the ECS PF88?

Here is your proof.

To the guy who started this - if you're planning on upgrading, just save up and get a whole new pc all together. A celeron and 9500 series aren't going to last you into the next generatino of games. I doubt it'll even let you play BF2.

If you sell parts from your current system you can get a socket 939 mobo, 3000+ Venice, and a 6600GT, along with anything else [maybe RAM] for pretty cheap.

i saw a motherboard that could do both AMD and Intel processors in PCWorld Magazine. I think you needed some sort of card/adapter to do one of the brands, but whatever.
