Heya folks,
I am going to be the unofficial spokesperson for XBox Live for the next couple minutes of your lives, possibly hours for those of you with not a firm grasp of the english language.
I have seen several posts from some of you that claim you are not going to buy XBox Live when Halo 2 comes out, there are other options, but I don't think that's a wise decision, we'll discuss them in a bit. For now, there is the matter of XBox Live. There is the matter of $5.99 every month, so go subtract a 12 pack of pop, cola, soda or whatever from your budget. Mow the lawn for your parents, er, for you northern folk, blow snow.
"But Mr. Mind, that's my whole allowance!" Well kid, let's face it, you aren't gonna spend that on anything after Nov. 9th anyway, heck I'll be surprised if you leave the house most of the time. Anyway, you'll get at least 2 months free inside the game, and if we're lucky we'll get 12 months free inside some of them, just like I got with Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. IF this is the case, that you're allowance is all of 6 dollars, this is what I want you to do:
You sit them down, dress nicely, lay out a list of things you've done, then you look those cheap bastards in the eyes and tell them they are horrible parents.
This may not get you a bigger allowance, and it won't get you any closer to XBox Live, but it's the truth and they need to know it.
Now, as for why you need XBox Live:
-Downloadable content. I cannot stress this enough. The possibilities for H2 are endless, and if you think Bungie isn't going to deliver for us, the fans, then you obviously haven't been paying any attention to this whole big H2 thing. ilovebees.com anybody? Information starved though we are, I don't think that they are playing the fiddle for a new crowd, know what I mean? It is for US!!!!
-Automatic updates. Physics engines, bug fixes, anything that could fix anything that could go wrong with the game after launch could be downloaded right away, totally automatically right from Live. To not have Live is to starve yourself of a growing game and all it has to offer.
-Hardware/networking design. They've built Halo 2 to run on Live, period. It will have all the doodads you want. The chances the game will run better on May 9th than on Nov. 9th are great. Example: just when we were almost tired of Project Gotham Racing 2, the physics were tweaked and new content came out.
-Fantastic community! Voice will be awesome on Live! Your friends will be able to communicate easily on Live! Other "tunnel" software probably won't be able to give you all the capabilities that Live will...especially if you are in a clan.
As for other options:
-XBox Connect, www.xbconnect.com, right now my personal favorite way to play my favorite game, Halo. It rocks, but I don't think it will hold a candle to Live! You won't get the updates to the engine, graphics or physics that are capable in Live.
-Gamespy, www.whatevertheirsiteisIdon'tfeellikelookingforitrightnow .com, sucks. Period. I have never played a good game off of the XBox on gamespy. Same reasons as XBC.
-Other programs, heck if I know, but I'll state the same on them.
In conclusion, GET LIVE YOU CHEAP SOB!!!!
That is all.
This post is 2 1/2 hours in the making thanks to me having a job. :P
