Subject: Why did they even end it?

What was the point of Microsoft ending Original XBL for Halo 2 and other Xbox games midway in April in order to raise the friends list cap and other Xbox Live benefits if we still haven't seen any of these features almost two months after? Don't they have a sandbox system or something for Live that's independent from the public servers so they just could work on it while not screwing everyone over?

Hope I'm not the only one that's pissed off by Microsoft.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Uh, they wanted people to buy 360s. Too bad the shutdown has filled this forum with rerelease and xbc and h2 memories and "OH NOES SHUTDOWN" topics.

The xbox freinds list was also linked to GFWL and Zune. Removing the limit would allow those to have more friends.

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

Still it was pointless for them to it, they could have at least let us keep playing until they chose to do the update.

Microsoft I think was paying extra for the old servers and barley any one played on them, so Microsoft decided to delete the servers in that case no more Halo 2 xbox live.

Do you want your map considered for Halo: Reach matchmaking? Does it support MM gametypes? Send off an email to cartographers@bungie.org or PM me a link and description to your map for submission to the Community Cartographers. I may respond to you for updates to your map, so be sure to be open for communication and critique.

Hi /r/halo on Reddit!

I'm pretty sure it was more related to them finally needing to completely end support for the original Xbox. You see, by keeping OXbox Live functional, they had to keep training support staff to deal with OXbox support issues.

The original Xbox Live also doesn't support selectively blocking games from Live like they can do on the 360 (ie, try signing into the Blur demo - it knocks you off Live). So they can't for instance just issue a patch for Halo 2 to not break with new 360 features. It was all or nothing.

There's also the fact that they stopped printing new Live cards for the original Xbox ages ago. Cards you need to make a new account. The only way to make new gamertags to play on your OXbox for the last year or so was to make a gamertag on a 360 anyway.
