Since the banhammer came down hard on people using modified content on Xbox Live, a new trend has emerged - "Boosting" with modders. People are using free trial accounts and using mods to boost their friends or their main accounts as much as they can until they eventually get banned.

Just because our auto-ban system only goes after the actual people who have modified content doesn't mean we don't also know about the people partying with these modders. Yesterday several thousand players were banned, all people who were found to have played a significant number of games with known reported modders.

These bans were temporary - this time. But let this be a warning - if you play with people who have modified content on their box - you're at risk for being banned yourself. Whether the mods are actually being "used" or not, or if you don't intend to boost, if you continue playing with anyone who has modified content you will be flagged.

The best advice - don't party with anyone who has modified content. Period. Let them take the fall.

I'm glad Bungie's doing something about the "tag-alongs".

Well, this is good. It should bring the amount of modded games on Xbox Live to almost zero.

Modders stink. They really really stink. Go Bungie. You rock. You really really rock.

Excellent! Thanks again Bungie for continuing to support the legit players and those who despise cheaters. Hopefully this will reduce the modding from rare to nil. Now I think I can play Team Slayer again. I stopped for a while because as soon as I get above level 30 I started running into level one modders boosting level 31-37's.

Cheers!

Thanks for dealing with the cheating modders, but, and I don't mean to support something that is obviously wrong... but what's wrong with modding? I mean, cheating mods, yes, I would give any modder an excellent falsetto (don't get it? Go look up "eunuch") but I've seen some real mods and they were pretty cool. Why not allow modding in unranked games or even have a mod-accepting server. If they want to screw with their Xbox, let them. Just don't make us get involved. So, get the modders out of the system, but let's just isolate them like the the lepers they are. By the way, I am not a modder.

I knew my friend was wrong on this, he said that he could play custom games with modders and not get banned because they aren't modding in matchmaking, I told him he would still get banned by playing custom games with mods, he said that he couldn't get banned because he wasn't the one using mods. I guess he better check this out before it's too late.

Question. If you have friends who are a higher level than you (no modded content) can you still play matchmaking with them, or does that count as boosting as well?

Nah, Modders can play in custom games from what I have seen. I know some people who mod just in custom games because it seems to be allowed. Its not like they are messing with levels, just showing off their stuff online.

Can I get banned for playing custom NON RANKED matches with modders just to mess around?? It seems that Bungie doesn't care as all the modders I know are banned from MM not custom gamez.

So the reason I was suspended was for playing some custom games with a modder. WTF...Who was I hurting. I wasnt even modding and I wasnt hurting other peoples ranks, nor was I unfairly boosting my rank. I was just screwing around. Come on bungie. So you're saying that If I play any more custom games with a modder you will permenately ban me?

yeah it is cool u ban modder but and there tag alongs but i think u should let custom games be modded and not ban hose who are in the costum game. i got suspend because i play a lot of costum games with moddeds then can do some good stuff some of it it cool as long as the do not modded macthmaking that just -blam!- cause it just a number i do not care if i a 1 or a 50 halo just fun u should ban ip address from matchmaking cause that would stop the modding

Can someone tell me, if after the temporary ban, they lose their levels also or blacklisted or something? To me, getting a temporary ban just to keep their high, non-legit levels seems pretty wrong to me.

Why Sketch?

The revolving door of free trial access will allow them back online almost instantly. Only now they will be realy pissed-off and determined to wreck Halo2 even more! Good work fellahs.

LOL, I'm sorry if I find this funny, but XBL is doing the electronic equivalent of trying to herd cats!

Good luck guys.

Because they violate the integrity of Xbox Live - that's why.
