Yes, you'll get banned even if you just play with them in customs.

Can I get banned for playing custom NON RANKED matches with modders just to mess around?? It seems that Bungie doesn't care as all the modders I know are banned from MM not custom gamez.

Can I ask a question though? How aon earth do we recognise a modder? I'm new to Live, and started last week, though does a masssive M come up or something? How do you tell?

Please don't call me a n00b....

Hypothetical question for you-

If I get banned, for examle, what exactly will stop me from taking one more from the stack of free trials I still have and signing straight back in to continue my quest of wrecking the game for everybody else?

(Oh hardship, I have to take it offline, activate my stealth mod chip, delete the record of already having used a free trial, deactivate the mod chip, turn it back on and sign in with a fresh GT which by the virtue of the easy to use friends system will shortly be known to all my modding buddies. Back to business as usual)

I could do this (if I had a mod chip and some free trials, which I dont) and so can thousands of others. A fact borne out by the number of them that still exist online. If you just posted that a few thousand got a temp ban you can hardly dispute the numbers can you?

So please tell, what exactly are you or anyone else at XBL or Microsoft doing to stop it? Other than issuing a few idle threats and banning them for 24hrs? And its not just modding. They use free trials to standby, boost and all the other crap. Repeatedly.

I understand that free trial policy is set by XBL and Microsoft- not Bungie. But I do question the sanity of whoever is responsible for this fiasco. Who is it? Who do we contact? Where should people send feedback about this?

What message comes up if you have been banned?

At the moment i have a message saying updating Modifications on your xbox which are required to play matchmaking (or something like that). Does this mean i have been banned because this fails everytime and so i cant play matchmaking.

Also, how can i tell if someone is a modder? If i have been banned i wasnt aware that i was using a mod or someone i was playing with was. Would you be able to tell me which player it is that i have been playing with?

just wondering but wots wrong with mods in a custom game because in a way it makes it a interesting custom game. you get hundreds of people making mods for halo and halo ce which, yes i know, is for pc. so why bother sending out bans if it doesn't affect your stats and wot makes them so bad?

Even though it does violate the integrity of xbox live, its not like these mods are interfering with other games. Like som other guy said its shows off wot people can do eg. warthog, ghost, banshee and tank skins. Sorry for the hint of cheesiness but it shows the potential of some modelers and skin making people, people which can't afford to start their own game company.

ps: Btw i am not a modder, I ONLY PLAY OCCASIONAL modded CUSTOM games. A lot of the times its a mod where evryone can have a good time. I never EVER play modded matchmaking games!! People who think thats how they should treat matchmaking cun go and %^&<>:@~

I've only experienced it once (where I was put on a modders team). Once I killed my foe I would stay by there body and tell them the name of the modder and clearly state I don’t mod.
Then in the PostGame carnage report screen (when everyone’s exchanging colorful remarks) I would tell everyone to leave cheating feed back against the modders GT.
However he said he will just use another trial account and keep doing it.
Bungie hasn’t officially made a comment about stopping these people from coming back with the trail accounts, so this leads me to think we SHOULDN'T keep our hopes up on getting rid of them for good.

One last comment i would like to make, and all those who agree say my name "forgot 2 duck" YEAH!
anyway

Those of you who are old enough to remember the early StreetFighter days? Capcom released World Warriors in the arcades. Eventually people started modifying the arcade board so they could "do extra stuff that the programmers did not intend on". And what happened as a consequence of that?
Capcom was smart...they knew they couldn’t beat those modifying people so they made money from it!
and thus StreetFighter Hyper fighting was born. Which over time lead to classics such as XmenVsStreet fighter etc.

Bungie...I know you guys aren’t as big as Capcom(yet) but can you be smarter than them? Maybe do what Capcom couldn’t and stop the modders?

Due to the fact that this is such a true and deep question, I DOUBT A BUNGIE REP WILL EVEN TRY TO ANSWER MY QUESTION.

I have a question, why not reset the stats then there would be no modders high enough to boost their friends. Also why not make a special version of halo 2 strictly for modders? One way to get rid of them is to make them play some where else, then you can find out who mods and if they choose to go back and play on the legit version then you can ban them.

Nice one Bungie, can you do one other thing as well is possible - can you reset these people's ranks? If they keep their ill gotten ranks they will feel that in some small way they have got away with - resetting their ranks would be a fitting punishment.

You and I know the matchmaking rank is there so you can play with poeple of a similar rank. These guys see it as a status symbol whether they earned it or not. Take that away from them and they have nothing which is what they deserve.

So are you going to do that?

Culexevilman saidYeah reset the ranks we played so hard for. yeah retard looks like you stats are garbage anyways.

Even a quick glance at your rank show you play with modders, how is that working hard for your rank you idiot. You cheated your rank is worthless, you are in no position to crit anyone elses stats. I play with guys that are level 22's and can rip it up they just don't play a lot of matchmaking becuase of poeple like YOU.

I reported RonaldWeedy on Wednesday the 17th and 11 of his friends. I was playing Big Team when he came on as a level 2. When I got back to my computer I checked his games and he had 11 people that he played with constantly. I don't think my reporting them was the cause, but it's nice to see somthing done to them 2 days after I reported them. Well thats shows those ass clowns!

Yes, you'll get banned even if you just play with them in customs.

AHHHHH! I'm not a modder, but I played modded custom games ALL OF YESTERDAY!
I see the error of my ways, however. I thought it was fun to shoot flying warthogs out of my rocket launcher, fly up beyond the invisible sky barrier by meleeing the ground, and make a giant ramp by shooting floating ramps out of my plasma pistol, while surrounding myself with jackel shields using my plasma rifle and throwing a plasma pistol across the entire map of Terminal and having it go so fast it bounced back and I stuck myself. I was wrong.

No more flying, flag-shooting dismembered guass turrets that go twice the speed of a banshee for me, no more shooting trains out of a tank, or superjumping by shooting a shotgun at the ground, and definitely no shooting a wraith out of a brute shot, getting in it, and flying around shooting a scarab beam.

The one thing that I might miss will be riding the moving scarab on Turf and shooting scorpions that go the speed of a ghost out of a sniper rifle that never has to reload and never runs out of ammo.

I can slightly understand banning a modder from a custom game, because maybe you are just preventing them ever using it in matchmaking. But banning people they play with in custom games makes no sense. These people aren't gaining levels or cheating or anything wrong. Are you just doing it out of spite because they didn't report these moddders, or are you trying to suggest that their cheaty custom games are hurting someone.

ok so you guys at bungie can tell what games the modding is taking place in right?
so is there anyway for you to go and give back the lost experience due to playing modders and standby'ers? just pretent the game was a tie, that way the tag alongs wouldnt benefit and the players on the opposing team wouldnt get so pissed off because they wouldnt lose the level they worked so hard to get.

just my 2 cents on how to make halo 2 a lot more fun.

  • 08.19.2005 7:55 AM PDT

shinesevens you are right, people like Culexevilman should not be allowed to criticize others because they think they are better. I am with you saying his rank is worthless and he should be baned, also bungie should also ban these modders from forums too. Why should we listen to these cheaters brag about how good they are when they are not?

I don't know why you just didn't ban the tag alongs, they were warned twice that following a modder would get them banned. Why was it just temporary?

I would so love to take on a modder on like zanzibar, cause all they are are ppl that suck at the game so they buy mods to try to impress themselves and raise their self esteem. If u need to cheat in a vdeo-game to feel good about yourself, then it shows that they have no life and should just be dragged out and shot

Well I probubly will still be playing with friends who have Action Replay and sometimes ones that have mods. I relly don't care too much about MM but I dont want to be Banned. I Make movies so the no hud mod helps, along with the flying worthog. Its too bad people have to mod in MM and ruin it for the people who just play customs. Well Thanks for banning the tag-alongs anyway.

To be clear, you won't be banned if you 'accidentally' play games with someone who ends up having modified content on their box. We set the limits to identify people playing a significant amount of games together over a given period. One or two games won't matter, so if you notice that someone in your party is using mods, you should probably get out of that party as quickly as possible.

Im currently suspended from MM for playing custom games with a modder. But I played a bunch more custom games with a modder just for fun last night because I thought that It was okay if it wasnt in MM. Are you going to ban me permanently for the games I played last night? And if the modder takes off his mods can I play with him then? And if Im banned permenantly will the other account on my xbox be banned too?
P.S. after reading your post I wont play any more games with a modder so please dont ban me.

Also, to further clarify, this particular query was specifically targeted at MATCHMAKING - not custom games. However, using mods of any sort over Xbox Live is still against the rules and is still grounds for potential permanent suspension. True, our main focus is preventing modders and boosters from ruining matchmade games, but it doesn't mean we're giving permission to do these things in custom games.

The best thing you can do is to not have any modified content on your box and not play with people who do.

Ban that guy Culexevilman. He's got some nerve flaming someone for their rank when he got his rank by playing with modders. Who really gives a sheeit anyway? What satisfaction does someone get out of a high rank if they know that everybody can see they got it by cheating against people who would otherwise smoke them

Gruntskillz-

Because they are customers.

Cheating, free trial abusing, non paying, modding, loud mouthed, boastfull, game wrecking, de-leveling, standbying, glitching retards of customers, but customers nonetheless.

Maybe instead of catering to their needs XBL/M$ might want to listen to their genuine, honest, PAYING customers who want nothing more than to be rid of them?

I wont hold my breath.
