what if the people youre partying with have modded content and you are simply unawares to this fact, how do you plan on telling the difference

since one of my less than bright friends was banned not too long ago for using mods that i wasnt even aware he had and i used to play alot of party games with him both in and out of matchmaking

it occurred to me that if i were still playing as much as i would like to (in party games) i would probably be banned right now too with no discernable reason why, this worries me greatly since my friends list is still pretty long and most of them are friends i met on halo 2

Good! I'm glad these people have been banned. I just got modded 4 times today and have been lagged out of games in Team Slayer. Maybe they'll figure out that there is such thing as the sun which makes the flowers grow in a place called "OUTSIDE." Find a girl, get laied, and learn you're not impressing anybody with that 35+ rank.

But I believe just banning their XBL names isn't good enough, because the cheaters will just go out and generate more codes to get back on it. Microsoft should start banning Credit Card numbers, and all the more important things that require the Gamertag to funtion. Because I'm sure the cheaters won't go out of their way to get another credit card number because I sure as hell wouldn't give mine out.

There's this new fad going on now of people doing what they call "de-ranking". People are going into matchmade games and either purposely killing themselves, their teammates, or helping the other team win. I would definitely consider that cheating! How weak do you have to be to really do this?! If you hate your high rank that much why not lose it like normal people do. Instead these losers are taking down the whole team with them. I don't even think I'm going to play matchmaking anymore unless Bungie can do something about this ridiculous problem. It's sad that no matter what changes are made, cheaters and losers are always trying to manipulate the system and ruin the game for honest players. Now that modding is almost non-existent, "de-ranking" is the top thing that is making my blood boil. Does anyone agree with me?

I definitely have to agree with you, Conker. Bungie has to at least try to do something about this. Maybe they could add that in as a feedback option. I mean, it's not fair to the people that are playing to win and try and rank up. It really is ridiculous and anyone who does it is a loser in my eyes no matter what their rank was.

Thats because you are a NEWBIE Shaymus22. Anyone who has not been modded as least 3 times in matchmaking since the banhammer is a NEWBIE. I have been modded at least a dozen time and iam a 30ish so your a 20ish maybe 10ish.... ya a 10 ish 20s would at least play some of the people i play.

Damn modders piss me off I've played against some and it aggravated the hell out of me. What is the point of playing that if your going to cheat? It just takes the fun out of it. :-(

this is what the should do about de-rankers. they should only make it so u can gain levels and never lose levels. i'm tring to get my levels up and once in a while i lose a level just because i quit the game cuz of de-rankers.

Thanks for dealing with the cheating modders, but, and I don't mean to support something that is obviously wrong... but what's wrong with modding? I mean, cheating mods, yes, I would give any modder an excellent falsetto (don't get it? Go look up "eunuch") but I've seen some real mods and they were pretty cool. Why not allow modding in unranked games or even have a mod-accepting server. If they want to screw with their Xbox, let them. Just don't make us get involved. So, get the modders out of the system, but let's just isolate them like the the lepers they are. By the way, I am not a modder.

Nothing really more to say but I will say I agree with him. Modding isn't that bad unless used to cheat. Bungie might be banning or temp banning people but most of those people aren't cheating but just enjoying the mods or messing around. Even temp banning might be a step too far. I know your trying to get your point across but is it really nessacary to temp ban someone? I know someone who only mods on XBC but got banned from matchmaking anyway. Just an opinion of mine but you should think about it.

Since the banhammer came down hard on people using modified content on Xbox Live, a new trend has emerged - "Boosting" with modders. People are using free trial accounts and using mods to boost their friends or their main accounts as much as they can until they eventually get banned.

Just because our auto-ban system only goes after the actual people who have modified content doesn't mean we don't also know about the people partying with these modders. Yesterday several thousand players were banned, all people who were found to have played a significant number of games with known reported modders.

These bans were temporary - this time. But let this be a warning - if you play with people who have modified content on their box - you're at risk for being banned yourself. Whether the mods are actually being "used" or not, or if you don't intend to boost, if you continue playing with anyone who has modified content you will be flagged.

The best advice - don't party with anyone who has modified content. Period. Let them take the fall.

I don't party with anyone, but what if you're grouping with someone who uses modified content, but you don't know about it?

I remember asking what would happen to the people mooching off the modders before the update. I'm glad they're getting what they deserve. I remember seeing kids complain about modders then happening to get stuck with a modder on our team and my team was trying to get him in a party that I refused to want involvement in. After all they're complaining they did before the game about how modders suck etc they were suddenly supporting this modder. It was so messed up and hypocritical of them to complain about modding then want a modder on their team. I can't stand modders and never want to play with them. I just like playing the game I'm given. I did my share of reporting modders when I could as this modder wave came about. I like playing legitimate games only.

OK I want everyone to understand it here. When you signed up for Xbox live. You agreed to their T&C's.

Your use of any software associated with the Service will be governed by the terms and conditions of the end user license agreement (“EULA”) accompanying such software. If you receive any software that is not accompanied by a EULA, then Microsoft grants to you a non-exclusive, revocable, personal, non-transferable license to use such software solely in connection with the Service and solely on an unmodified Xbox game console.

So to the 12 year olds whining or the people with the IQ equivalent to a 12 year old whining. Stop. You have no grounds to moan. You implicitly agreed to this statement. When you signed up for XBL or your parent did when they signed up for it. So guess what? If this means Bungie or Microsoft wants to ban you. They can so tough. Suck it up. You don't have a choice in the matter. Don't have modded content on your Xbox then. It is really that simple.

About the banning of people who explicitly play games with people who mod I applaud this decision. We punish this behaviour in the real world so why not do it here?

I take it a noob is someone who doesn't spend all their time obsessively playing Halo 2 and infact does have a job, a girlfriend or a wife, a life outside of gaming and thus only plays casually but still finds people who end up modding or cheating by playing with modders to be reallly annoying when they pick up a game to play with some friends? So I guess you can call me a noob then.

Get over yourself a ranking in some console game isn't the biggest thing in life. To be honest it doesn't mean squat in the real world. Try to grow up some thanks.

Um your posting here. Therefor you have no more life than we do. Some people only play a few hours a day maybe and they kick the ass of people who play 12hours a day. Some people are just that dam good get over yourself. Your just saying I suck at halo dummy. bet you would be thrilled to get to 25. I play 35s on a regular basis and I hate these losers who -blam!- because they suck at halo and will never be good. They just are too predictable in most cases.

Is it considered playing a modded game if you play with someone with action replay and the downloaded a game-type so you start with no weapon, coagulation starts with 4 heavy vehicles, or the name of the gametypes have little pictures in them??

... hmm shame that i've only just noticed this topic now, just after i've come back from playing some CUSTOM games on my friends box which turned out to be a modded one (i found this out AFTER i'd signed in and started a custom game... (and no i don't mod))... so does this mean that i've been permenately banned!??

I mean im completly against modders and modding... but if i knew his box was modded i would'nt have played on it at all...
