Bungie is Australian Slang for Mate! Its been used for years. Everyone calls every one Bungie. Like "Hey Bungie how you doing?" or "Look out Bungie you almost steped on that croc" or "Crikey! what happend to you Bungie". The creator must have had an Aussie mate that called him Bungie.

It could also be named after the rope.

Mate, from an actual Aussie, that is a load of CRAP. You must have pulled that out of your arse for sure, 'cos i've never heard of the word bungie used as a slang for mate...

I thought the word "Mate" itself was australian slang. that would make Bungie australian slang for an australian slang word.

Agreed - I've lived in Australia most of my life (in a number of cities and country areas), and I have never heard anyone call anyone bungie. Also, hardly any australians say crikey - that's steve irwin (the croc hunter).

or maybe it is named after a guy with the last name "Bungie"

  • 08.04.2004 11:02 PM PDT

Ok?
I'm another Aussie, I don't say "mate", "g'day" and I think the last word I would ever use in teh entire universe would be "crikey"! I despise Steve Irwin for creating such a poor stereotype for Australia...

Nobody has EVER said Bugnie to me in a way not relating to the rope or this company... I think you'd be pretty damn wierd to be using it as slang for mate!

Calm down mojonation1487... this isn't the place for insults.

Not everyone here is an aussie, but we feel compelled to reply to this ;-)

I myself have lived in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane (my current location) and in England... and have travelled all over the place as well :-)

So would you say that "crikey" is the cultural equivalent to "Whatcha you talkin' 'bout, Willis"?
